Stranger Things is kind of overrated, it's okay but it's not original and it's Goonies and Stand By Me mixed with E.T.

Matt R Nothing is original. Every story is based on something that was already done by someone else. That being said people overhype things all the time. I watched Stranger Things before people started going nuts about it, and I thought it was a cool call back to 80s adventure films. I didn't think it was the greatest show of all time though.

+Jered murphy it's not just the story, it's just feels like the plot and cliches have been done to death. It felt too predictable and didn't get too excited when watching it. The characters were okay at best, it just doesn't look much different than the Sci-fi movies from the 80s.

Like the thing about the title screen not matching the show like come on, and Mike saying people just like anything new. Like really. No actually cogent argument as to why it wasn't good, just trying to come across as big wigs by saying that something awesome wasn't really that awesome to them because they are so great. Or maybe I'm overthinking it haha. Not.

Jeffrey Homan I think the same way, I don't know if it is for the same reason though. stranger things it's slightly like the 80's but people who said it was like the 80's ruined it for me. compared with movies like monster squad, goonies or movies alike it's nothing like the 80's

Ya so I started watching stranger things because I was fucking bored. I usually dislike netflix series very much. I also had no idea it was new when I watched it and did't talk with anyone about it except my gf and I thought the show was amazing. I liked that it was like the goonies or IT and it was very 80's. Also it is one of the only shows where all the characters are likable. Also the monster was not cg. Just his face. There is an actual actor that was in the monsters suit. Your blanket statements on why people like it seem to be off...

IMO Stranger Things totally nailed the 80s style. I think you can have an HD image quality and still make it look like the 80s, because of the atmosphere, the clothing, the characters and their behavior, all of it was made to be like in the old 80s movies.

The fact you liked many sidestories and how they resolved is the main appeal of Majora's Mask, is not just completing the game but also how you resolve each ingame person's issues, definitely a must Zelda game to play.

The whole point of what made stranger things good was how it was a good quality production of an 80s feeling movie. the extreme minority that would have liked film grain and bad practical effects would have been a major turn off to the bulk audience who wants new good content thats done in good quality. that being said it would be nice for the hardcore retro fanboys if maybe just the playback devices themselves have screen filter effects or have a 2nd version of the shows/movies in a similar respect with how overwhelmingly bad everyone said the new ghostbusters was I went in expecting it to be the worst thing I had seen in my life. And while I didnt think it was great it actually did some albeit very few things much better than the original ghostbusters. sure some of the jokes were too unbelievably dumb and the jim carrey style overly animated comedic acting of Kate McKinnon didnt really sit well. I think one of the biggest flaws in the new ghostbusters other than ignoring the existance of the originals was the bright colorful ghosts. Who knows if the old ghostbusters would have been so ugly and bright if they had better technology back then but I think that flat more down to earth tone of the effects of the 80s made those ghosts seem more real and that would have helped out the new movie a lot. but the aspect of the ghostbusters actually testing out their newly invented gear was great. the old movies were just like "well we have this perfect gear that doesnt need any testing or tweaking lets do this"

It's so much easier to hate on new stuff and be contrarian when it gets really popular with great reviews. Me, I could give a shit about whether it's new or old. If I'm entertained and intrigued, I'm gonna like it whether it's Citizen Kane or Nothing But Trouble.

I don't give a crap if Stranger Things is brand new or 100 years old. That has nothing to do with most people liking it. It was a good story with lots of nostalgia, good acting and suspense. I'm the same age as those kids and that totally felt like it was 1983, more than anything I've seen in the modern era. I've seen retro done shitty, and Stranger Things is retro done right. It wouldn't be a smash hit if it sucked.

OoT's Water temple is by far the best designed and most cohesive dungeon in that game. It plays like poetry. Its only two flaws are: 1) That the boots take too long to put on and take off (which is more a fault of the game in general rather than the temple), and 2) That one single key in the bottom middle room is too easy to miss.

Yeah considering 3D was still "new" in that era it's an impressively designed dungeon that takes full advantage of it. I think most complained just because it was genuinely are pretty challenging dungeon, and like mentioned switching the boots is a pain.

They got the idea for Stranger Things by simplifying the true story of the Montauk Project. The show was going to be called Montauk. The creators aren't very creative as they even copied direct scenes from other movies like the Montauk Chronicles documentary, which was their inspiration to make the series.

Re; Same world Weeeeeeeeellll, actually no: the Dark World is the Sacred Realm (which may or may not also be Skyloft), just corrupted. In Link Between Worlds, you only visit the Hylean sacred realm for the last scene of the game. Lowrule is just a parallel universe altogether, with it's own Sacred Realm, that just so happens to look almost exactly like the corrupted Sacred Realm (sans the Silent Hill chasms).
@inputfunny
@inputfunny 7 жыл бұрын
I thought A Link Between Worlds was fun, but my biggest problem was how easy it was. I can only remember 1 puzzle that made me think for a minute or 2. The puzzles also felt very self-contained; they didn't feel very intricate like when you have to go to different areas to figure out 1 puzzle; instead I remember the puzzles usually being able to be completed by staying in 1 room. Buying the items you needed wasn't very good in my opinion since it took away your satisfaction of finding big items in the dungeons for the most part. It wasn't a very rewarding or satisfying game to me, so I'd probably give it a 6 or 7 out of 10.
@inputfunny

warpio I was thinking the same thing. That's probably true. I think that's why Nintendo should change some things around so experienced Zelda players will have new surprises and the games won't be so easy.

I'm really surprised they were luke warm on Stranger Things. Im 2 years older than James and I LOVE IT and I'm surely not one of those people that follows stuff because its "hip". It really is a great show. Although I'm not sure what James friends were smoking comparing it to John Carpenter. Best comparison for me is to compare it to Goonies. I grew up in the 80s and 90s myself and think it's pretty close to the feeling of that movie than anything John Carpenter. Sure its shot in HD, but we don't have to be CaveMen to be retro. I mean cmon James/Mike you shoot retro game videos in HD 😉

They clearly got the vibe, but didn't think it was amazing. I'm inclined to agree. It was a good show, but nothing absolutely amazing. It's basically 90% nostalgia. It's the "Only 80's kids will remember this!" of TV shows. Almost feels like it should have been on VH1 instead of Netflix.

I think James has got the wrong end of the stick with the whole "it feels like a 80's movie" thing. They don't in the way that it was shot, they mean in terms of the story taking a lot from stories that were written in the 80's. The effects and the camaras they use is modern, but that does mean it can't still feel like the 80's in terms of tone. Also has anyone made a This is Spinal Tap joke about that show yet? You know ..."These go to eleven"...there has got to be some sort of joke you can make!

When people say that "stranger things have happened". This show is the type of $#!+ they are talking about. You don't know $#!+ about $#!+ until you've hidden from a monster in your backyard fort, had some slimy thing crawl out of your mouth, glimpsed another dimension, taken a mallet to your kitchen wall, climbed in a cubby hole and talked to your christmas lights. But in all seriousness, I thoroughly enjoyed stranger things. As an 80's aficionado I was taken aback to hear james' take on the show. The story, setting and characters all felt authentically 80's to me. Even though yes, as james stated, the show was shot in hd. With that being said, the resolution isn't really the criteria in which I judge the 80s-ness of the show. An 80's movie that's been up-ressed to 1080p and cleaned up real nice still feels 80s to me for reasons totally unrelated to the resolution and quality of the picture. Its more to do with the choice of photography, stylization, the settings, story, ,characters, acting, etc. This also kind of sounds like a classic case where the show was over hyped to james via social media. I went in with no expectations except that a friend who also loves 80s stuff said it was interesting. That's about the perfect level of hype to go into this with. Just expect it to be interestingly 80s-like and enjoy the ride. Most or all the classic 80s kid movie tropes are fulfilled in the show. Chunky kid, check. nerdy kid, check. kid that talks funny, check. token minority kid, check. kid that loves old horror movies, check. kid with magic powers, check. completely clueless adults, check. While its not the best thing ever made, I disagree that its just as good as everything else out there to watch. Mainly because all the other stuff is mostly crap. I've seen a lot of everything else and the vast majority if absolutely atrocious to try and actually sit through. I binged this whole show in 2 days because it was so enjoyable. 99.99% of stuff to watch simply doesn't do that for me, so this definitely stood out from the crowd. So you could certainly be watching many things that are quite a bit worse than this. The story is solid enough on its own, but with an added nostalgia factor due to the setting that took it over the top for me.

I look at the older LOZ games like the original GTA games. Fun, and as good as they could do for the time, but once you go 3D, now you're really getting into some shit. I guess I love the game more for its vastness. And suck it, Hourglass kicked ass. Really creative game. Can't imagine many DS games utilized its platform more.

I liked Stranger Things because it had mystery/horror themes against an more innocent 80's pre-stranger danger backdrop. I think you're off base with this idea that people just like new stuff - there aren't many kid driven adult shows around (I can't even think of one at the moment) that go into conspiracy theories and missing children. It was mostly the vice and buzzfeed set who bigged up the nostalgia angle.

Everyone was telling me to watch Stranger Things and when I did, I found it started really fun and interesting, but the further and further in I got, the more I found that people acted severely weird. From super scared one moment to "fight mode" the next. They find the most creepy, disgusting things and decide to explore just like that, which felt unrealistic as balls. They can be worried about something big (Which is good) but then have absolutely no worries in other situation, making it all feel disjointed to me. But I'm in the small minority when it comes to that show, most people I know loved it and disagree with me :P

When you hype something else, obviously, your expectations get raised too high. If you saw it fresh and without opinions, you would have had a different feeling to it. This happens all the time to hyped up movies or shows. Best thing to do: have low expectations for everything, and you will be surprised at how good somethings can be.

If there wasn't a younger generation to blame things on you have killed yourself long ago

I have to agree with James' reasons for finding stranger things to be overrated. For a show that pays so much homage to 80s stuff, it doesn't have the correct look of the 80s, due to the modern looking cinematography and cgi antagonist

This is singlehandedly the greatest SNES game of all time. Not playing this would be a disservice to yourself. If you're going to pass over a classic-style Zelda game, the most forgivable one would be the original. But LttP is something everyone should play through at least once.
