Not at all. I'm about 10 Metroids in, and I'm loving it, really feels like classic 2D Metroid. It's hard to say where I'd rank it though, the older games are just amazing.

Happy to hear you're enjoying your first Metroid game! It's my favorite series. The last 2D Metroid came out in 2004... So you can imagine how psyched I was about Samus Returns. :D

It is not a bad game; in fact, I would say it is probably the best in the series. Definitely my favorite game of all time, alongside Fire Emblem Awakening. By the way, I suggest you to check out AM2R, it is free and is a good fan remake.

I can't recall what the original sounds like, but this is chill as fuck. I love it.

Thanks! The original is pretty much the only tune from Metroid 2 that has a melodic development (there might be another one but I'm not sure), while the rest of the soundtrack consists of ambient noises. Also I thought that the classic Brinstar theme would fit well in there!
