The green hair in the Justin Bailey code is the result of Samus starting with the Varia suit. With the basic Power suit, her hair is brown like in the ending. (Also, the Justin Bailey code wasn't deliberately coded into the game. It's just a coincidence. The way you're normally supposed to unlock suitless Samus is by beating the game fast enough to get the ending where she appears in a leotard, then starting a new game.)

I love this series, but not this game. It’s the same issues you mentioned: no map and all the areas looking the same. I felt so lost, like I was going around in circles If you want to play this game, play Zero Mission on the Gameboy Advance. It fixes these issues completely, and gives the game a makeover in the graphics department. Definitely my favorite Metroid game Great review! Looking forward to the rest of the month!

the fact that the story in the manual still broadly holds up with the rest of the franchise is incredible for an nes game, it definitely puts it above mega man 1 in that category. also, your videos are so good and it is a travesty that you only get views in the triple digits

Fake Kraid freaked me out as a little kid, because there was no logical explanation for him. Maybe it’s like how there’s fake Bowsers in Mario 2? I had this game growing up and my “job” was grinding for energy refills when restarting the game, and writing down passwords for my older brothers, as well as keeping track where they were on the map. QOL improvements which were programmed into future installments. I was 5.

Wayneisboss and if you still want to play the original after zero mission, you can unlock it in zero mission after beating the game once so that’s cool.

My brothers and their friends would grind and grind playing the game over and over to try to get the good ending they heard rumored about. I remember making up an efficient route to get the quickest ending. It was a playground rumor type thing, except the rumor was true.

I though bailey was a term for the bathing suit like Just In a bailey.
@Lakersdude73 жыл бұрын
The code is “Just In Bailey” not “Justin Bailey,” regarding her bailey suit that she is wearing. It just looks like that because the way the code is separated.
@Wayneisboss3 жыл бұрын
I did some research into the topic back when I was writing the script for this review and based on my findings there's really not much to support that claim. It makes some logical sense, of course but regardless it's not how the code is most easily recognized or remembered, "Justin Bailey" is. Based on further research it seems the code was not even created with a specific purpose, it simply manifested as a cosmic coincidence of letters and numbers coming together to result in playing as Samus in a swimsuit. It's worth mentioning that this is not the only code in the game that results in this outcome. So while it makes sense and may even be true, the distinction that it's actually "Just in Bailey" is simply irrelevant.
@Lakersdude73 жыл бұрын
@@Wayneisboss I doubt that, I’m sure if you pick up some upgrades with the code and die you’ll get a new code and she’ll still be in her bailey suit. So that’s the reason for other codes that result in her still in a swimsuit. I think you’re just overthinking it haha
@paraflex56213 жыл бұрын
I had heard that before myself about "just in bailey," but it turns out there is no real meaning behind Justin Bailey, it wasn't programmed into the game as mentioned by @Wayneisboss. It's just a coincidence, likely discovered originally by someone with the name "Justin Bailey", and made famous by Nintendo Power. It just happens to fit the algorithm and pass the checks. There is in fact one and only one code that IS hardcoded into the game though: NARPAS SWORD, likely meant to be NAR Password, that was probably used for debugging and makes samus invincible.

‘nobody knows why the justin bailey code is called this’ yes we do. somebody made a indepth analysis of the password system in this game. long story short it’s a coincidence and there’s wayy more suitless samus passwords aswell that’s just 1 that caught on cause it’s easy to remember. and you can get it by beating the game fast and starting a new game aswell

Good review. I do disagree about one thing though, because I think that the original Metroid game is still VERY MUCH worth trying for any new Metroid fan. Especially because you can look at maps on the internet now. It's still a lot of fun. And it's not without it's sense of nostalgia due to the era this game belongs to. I'd say, at least give it a try. Matter of fact. I'd recommend this one long before recommending the original version of Metroid 2. Better to just play AM2R, or, the 3ds remake if you have a 3ds.
