This is my favorite game in the franchise so far, having not started Dread yet, but it's also the first Metroid game I beat. That grapple beam mechanic was so satisfying, and the way it streamlined the Metroid formula really helped me get invested in the franchise after getting frustrated and quitting Prime 1 as a kid.

Prime 3 definitely made the Wii feel like a serious console. I had a good time with it's use of the motion controls rather than feeling silly like so many other Wii games. Looking forward to your review of other M.

Absolutely; I do rather enjoy the motion controls here. I can't say that for the majority of Wii games! Other M is going to be....interesting!

I know this game’s often considered the “weakest” of the trilogy, but I think it’s possibly my favorite. Its art direction is the most beautiful in the entire franchise (even more than Dread), and the worldbuilding is sheer perfection. I actually really enjoyed the change of pace with the increased focus on the Federation and interacting with other characters; I wouldn’t want it to be the norm going forward, but I think it was the perfect conclusion to the story arc of the Metroid Prime Trilogy.

I disagree with your positive view about the additional narrative and all the chatting NPCs. It completely stops this feeling like a Metroid game to me. Previous Metroid games had an air of mystery about them and the silence and lack of narrative just added to the atmosphere. The chatting and ‘achievements’ of this game just made me feel like I was playing a generic first person space shooter on the Xbox with some pointer controls. Interesting to hear a different viewpoint and it makes me even more intrigued to see how Prime 4 turns out. Will it go back to its roots or continue where this game left off? I suspect the latter.

I appreciate your opposite thoughts on this, and I totally understand the feelings that they tried to "Halo" up the series a bit with this third entry! Prime 4 will be interesting to see; if we ever see it!
