@@booski1865 Using these ridiculous urban dictionary terms does not make you sound intelligent. And then claiming something as ignorant as, "literature by definition is a different medium of storytelling than videogames" just shows that you have no understanding of what you are talking about. You made a comparison between "great works" (whatever that means or what you are referencing, you didn't bother to expand upon) and video game stories, as if one just came out of thin air and doesn't exist from pre-established literary devices and culture that have roots in language. On top of which, you go on make a subjective claim about how it's the best storyline in gaming (whatever vague definition "best" is supposed to have). It just goes to show that you only pretend to be an academic and clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Have some humility. If you don't know, that's ok. Don't inflate your ego over trivial things. Not everyone will enjoy the same things you will.

I know some people take issue with it, but I think the Zero Suit armor is brilliantly design. The Power Suit is large, powerful, and complex, so to contrast it, Samus' Zero Suit is sleek, unremarkable, and simple. I also think it adds to the practicality of the Power Suit since it make it super easy to move in rather than standard clothes. I'm totally not saying all this to hide the fact that I love plug suits and think Samus slays in it.

However, with 6/8, is comprised of 2 major beats with triplets in between, making up 6 beats. It’s all about feel. If you feel 3 beats, it’s 3/4, if it’s 2 (which feels more like a sway), it’s 6/8. Hope this clears things up!

16:46 It's interesting you mention this because at least going by ear, not only does Zero Mission's soundfont use a lot of the same samples as the Prime games, namely the chanting sounds, albeit heavily compressed due to being on the GBA, Zero Mission actually uses leitmotifs that originated in Prime. That tune you hear every time you get a hint from a Chozo statue? That's the Hall of Elders theme from Prime 1. It's a touch I love that subtly reinforces the the 2D and Prime games being in the same continuity by making them at least a little musically consistent.

Fun fact: you can cheese the Ridley fight by just staying underneath him the entire fight and shooting missiles one at a time. Spamming shots of any kind is what sets him off into the tail attacks, so take it slow and methodically while staying underneath him. He’ll continually swoop down on you but as long as he doesn’t touch you with his hands you won’t take damage. Occasionally he’ll use the big five-fireball attack and that’s your opportunity to get some missile recharges and then get back to shooting him one at a time. This is literally the only method I found that worked for me on Hard Mode 15%. I was stuck with 2 super missiles and 2 regular missiles so it was a necessity!

Couldn't remember the name "Fusion" so when I saw Zero Mission, I bought it instead, not realizing it was a remake of the first game. I can see why people might have an issue with the last act, but, I definitely remember having my mind blown when I was running around in the Zero Suit my first ever play through. That, and the feel of getting your power suit back (combined with the music change) just made that whole section amazing to me. It's definitely not as special on repeat play throughs, but that first moment was special. Content like that being added into remakes is pretty rare now a days. kridly

The coverage of the manga was really appreciated, I'm long overdue to revisit it as an adult! Just to clarify around 51:30, the scene in Other M isn't a callback to PTSD, it's a panic attack related to the events of that game that Ridley happens to trigger. Samus is -supposed- to be reacting differently to him than she normally would. The English version rewrote her struggle to be more focused on pleasing Adam, whereas in Japanese she's got a whole arc about repressing her feelings and trauma going on. I really think you'd get a lot from checking out the fansub

YOOOO I literally JUST got finished 100%ing Zero Mission with all 8 endings yesterday, amazing fucking timing for this Edit: just because I just got to the part where you mentioned the game being hard to 100%… yeah, I agree. The shinespark puzzles can get pretty brutal and the Hard mode endings (100% under 2 hours and the 15% run) are some of the absolute most difficult challenges I’ve overcome in a video game, but damn if it wasn’t the most satisfying experience mastering this game top to bottom. I’ve beaten it 10 times now, and I’m still raring to go back in for more. Surprisingly, by my last 100% playthrough (100% Hard Mode under 2 hours), I was able to pull off almost every single shinespark puzzle on the first attempt and my route had become so optimized that I beat the game in 1:42:18, shaving off 20 entire minutes from my failed 100% Hard Mode run (I barely missed it, getting 2:02:25). I’ve never had this much fun speedrunning a game before and it is absolutely amazing to me just how much replay value this game has with its plethora of sequence breaks and ways to abuse its systems. Bomb jumping, both vertically and diagonally are pretty damn easy to pull off, and by the end I even had horizontal bomb jumping down okay (even if I never really had to use it for much). My favorite moments were when I got neck deep into absolutely sequence breaking the fuck out of the game that I was trapped deep in Ridley’s Lair and I didn’t have the necessary items to get out, so I had to abuse Bomb jumping and wall jumping (which I didn’t even KNOW was in the game until I was trying to get out of a shaft and muscle memory from Super Metroid kicked in and I figured it out LOL) to get my way back out of there. This game has left such an incredible impression on me, it meshes perfectly with what I look for in a video game and I honestly don’t think I’ll ever truly forget the 100% route now. Edit: huh. I’m surprised you didn’t really like the Zero Suit segment all that much. It’s probably my favorite part of the game. I love how it does the “Samus loses all her abilities” shtick but in the middle of the game rather than just at the beginning, and running for dear life from the Space Pirates is so exhilarating. By my last couple playthroughs I had the entire segment down like the back of my hand but even then I was *still* finding new shortcuts through the maze of Chozodia and the Mother Ship. Oh, and doing this segment on a 15% Hard Mode run where I had literally 1 full energy tank max? Such a satisfying challenge to overcome.

1:05:41 OH NO TRAV, NO! I know EXACTLY why it crashed here and it's EXTREMELY stupid but also extremely easy to fix in game. So normally during the Tourian segment in NEStroid you're expected to have missiles for basically every missile door you've come across, as well as the Metroids themselves. Ordinarily when you kill a Metroid it's hard coded to give you at least one missile ammo pickup, however if you use the debug password WITHOUT grabbing at least one missile expansion (Because why would you ordinarily? you have infinite missiles even without actual missiles.) the game doesn't know what to do and will crash trying to place a missile ammo pickup without you having missiles. Extremely stupid but easily fixable: Pick up one single missile expansion before Tourian if you do a NARPASSWORD run.
