Here are my "Pro Tips" for Holiday Express Train Riders: It's best for kids 6 to 12. The ticketing scheme is disorganized. You'll need your ticket to find your assigned seat. (There are two methods of seat labeling, so ignore the row number. Only the seat number matters). There are toilets on the train but don't expect to use them. The cars are full and children need a lot of extra time. There are coffee vendors at the event but the wait time was about 45 minutes on my visit, so bring your own from home. Arrive early because the check-in process is slow and latecomers delayed our departure by 45 minutes. In the case of the Redlands train, it travels non-stop from Redlands Downtown to Rancho Cucamonga, but you do not get off the train. They just stop and go back the other way. They use the standard pullman Metrolink cars which board at the Eureka end of the platform. I can't recommend this for solo travelers. It's best if you can make reservations early and get a table for 4.
