Sunday 14 July 2024, was the Official Opening Ceremony at Yanchep Train Station. With the long awaited extension of the Joondalup Line. From the terminus at Butler, a further 14.5 kms further north to Yanchep, 54.5 kms north of Perth. And two new intermediate stations also opened, Alkimos and Eglington.
This video commences at Yanchep Station, which has one island platform and one side platform, sunk into a cutting. Concourse area at ground level.
A 6 car B series set, is arriving onto Platform 1. Then another 6 car B series is departing from platform 3.
The next scene shows a B series 6 car set arriving onto platform 2. Then a brief zoom in of the future. Showing trackage extension of the Yanchep Line, to Two Rocks one day!
Then next station south, at Eglinton. Shows a standard length C series six car set #129 arriving and departing for Yanchep.
Last scene, is C series six car set #131 stopping at the platform, and leaving for Yanchep.
Just as C series set #129 zooms past on empty back to Transperth's Nowergup Railcar Depot. (Located between. Butler and Clarkson train stations.)
Public train timetable operation were to commence, the next day, Monday 15 July 2024. With new interconnecting bus services from each of the three new stations.
And the name of the line through Perth's northern suburbs, to be changed from Joondalup, to the Yanchep Line.
Now boarding a train from Mandurah, Perth's southern suburbs, to Yanchep will take a passenger 1 hour 45 min train journey. A distance of 126 kms. Making this one of the longest suburban train lines in Australia.
Both the Mandurah Line and now known as the Yanchep Line, interconnect at either Perth's Underground Train Station. Or Elzabeth Quay Station.
