And among the many celebrated retired singers some were still there in 1983.

Great testimony Surely it was done with 8mm manual camera, silent, each side of the virgin roll had to be changed, that's why there are veiled areas every three or four minutes.

Wow. What's interesting about this is looking at Renata Tebaldi's weight loss. She was so slim! This totally had an effect on her voice.

This video has no sound - it is the "cuts" - unedited material. I will add a note to the record.

Still would like to know why Bing wanted this place torn down so desperately. It was New York's most beautiful auditorium. The financial and political skullduggery must have been very ugly.

Vincent Parisi ...it wasn’t BING. It was the board...financial considerations....remember the MET WAS RUN PRIVATELY BY BUSINESS PEOPLE.a move had been planned since the ‘30 s I understand.

They had completely grown out of that building. Sets were stored on sidewalks, no room backstage, no rehearsal spaces and the list goes on. They had been there since 1883 so it was time to grow.

Because they wanted to ruin opera and ruin it they did.
@lauracross57765 жыл бұрын
Apparently, Bing's excuse was that a rival opera company might take over the old house and financially ruin the Met. I don't know why he would think that since, even in the New Met's first season, the Met company itself was such a prestigious opera company, with incomparable means and resources, that any serious competition, even with the New York City Opera, was out of the question.
