This is by far one of the most helpful informative video. It's exactly what I was looking for I'm going for my Air Brakes License in Ontario Canada next week, I've been spending hours trying to memorize everything step by step for Semi Trucks. It's taking a lot of time, I have to keep saying it out loud as I'm reading and putting the note book down pretending I'm doing the step by step as to what I would do as I'm doing it. The Governor settings Cut-out and Cut-in is one of the most difficult inspection to understand.

really the wrong checklist. for example - of one spring in park brake chamber is broken you cant move bus on dry surface. So I do weekly inspection on pit. To check slack ajasters I ask someone to assist me and I check ajuster screw with tools. To use wood bar looks dangerouse idea, especially if you disable park brake and jump under truck. Chocks are not so reliable thing, especially made of plastic
@Maudster6913 жыл бұрын
@kirk42011 how do you figure? the vehicle has to be running for the compressor to work. which means for your build up time, gov cut-in and cut-out the vehicle has to be running. she actually would have passed. hate to inform you.

I don't think much of the negative comments because this is a pre-trip inspection, not a full DOT. Yes I know there are different standards for a 3 tank and a 5 tank air system but drivers don't know the difference. Great Job on the tutorial!

Proper air brake test is SAFB, static, applied, fan down, build up. SAFB is industry standard. Whole practical exam should take less than 5 minutes.

Good video and one I will keep on a personal playlist. I'm in AZ training now and had my Air Brake Handbook out while she went over each section of the air brake test. The only part she skipped, bc it was a school bus and not a tractor-trailer, were the testing of the trailer service and spring brakes. For those who are thinking about becoming a professional driver, do it. I'm leaving the kitchen work I've been doing for 12 yrs bc there is very little growth, its virtually a dead end job, and kitchen work makes it difficult to provide for your family efficiently. I also acquired heavy equipment tickets prior, but added the AZ training to vastly expand possible opportunities. I cannot wait to complete my training, but it all comes down to the road test and air brake practical.

***** another way to measure the push rod adjustment limit is to mark the push road against the chamber casing, then apply the brake, then come back and measure from the casing to the mark. As long as that measurement is less than the adjustment limit for the type and size of brake all is good.
@MrMercucio6 жыл бұрын
Hi. As far as the math goes, I'm hoping this may be helpful to you. When adding/subtracting fractions there's something in Algebra called "the common denominator", with the numerator being the top number of a fraction and the denominator being the bottom number of a fraction. So with 1/8, the number 1 would be the numerator and the number 8 would be the denominator. To subtract say 1 1/8 from 1 1/4 for instance, you would need to figure out how many 4's you would need to turn that denominator into an "8" so that both denominators would be equal (common). In this case, 4 * 2 = 8. Since it takes two 4's to make that denominator equal to the other, you multiply the top number above the "denominator 4", which is the "numerator 1" by 2...which would turn the original 1/4 into 2/8. This will leave you with the common denominator "8" for both fractions, allowing you to now be able to add/subtract them: Resulting in 1 2/8 - 1 1/8 = 1/8. I know it may seem a bit to tricky at first, but trust me once you try it a few times it is piece of cake to master. Best wishes and good luck.

You never told them to release their break first. Never pump your breaks with you tractor valve engaged or you will compress the breaks. Also the vehicle should be off not running.

You're not supposed to compound the brakes like that. Spring brake should always be off when applying foot pressure.

How do you measure 3 PSI on that gauge??
@edwing22706 жыл бұрын
@metrotruck in the State of California you would of had an Automatic failure. When doing the warning light test it comes on between 55 and 75 psi . You are supposed to stop stepping on the breaks the minute you see the warning light on the dashboard. You kept going . The cola test or Otherwise known ass the air break test needs to be done at 100%. No mistakes out loud.

Ze Bros It applies to any vehicle with air brakes. There are lots of buses (highway coach, city regional transit, etc) and straight trucks that use air brakes. If doing a tractor trailer setup, there are a few more steps to do the air brake test.

@Mattea6811 жыл бұрын
im sorry but this is NOT the correct way for Airbrakes, you DONT start the vehicle then do the test, You turn the vehicle ON but dont start it and then so the airbrake test, then when you have the low pressure alarms going you look at the guages and listen for leaks, then you start the vehicle and build up the air pressure until the alarms go silent and guages are back to normal and you can push the parking brake in since it will be unlocked
