Totally demoralized - you can see it in the eyes of the young guys - they're on a team with a bunch of old men.

Love my Mets when they are down and out. Very happy they are doing very good. Moving Lindor to lead off was the key move IMO. Cannot deny Grimace also lol.

@@aspjake123 I said it all year - they had to bring up guys from the farm system - Vientos, Iglesias (via a trade in farm system) - spot trades for role players like Taylor - these move put pressure on the starters to produce or sit. It jump started the team and sparked a new attitude (Iglesias).

Mike, I am a Red Sox fan since 1967 who grew up in NY, but Mom and grandpa lived a few blocks from Fenway, so I got the Love of Bosox DNA at age 9 when Yaz won the Triple Crown and Bob Gibson single-handedly destroyed us. From there, 1975 Reds, Bucky Dent in '79 and the 1986 Mets further dashed all hopes UNTIL the 0 - 3 ALCS in 2004 comeback vanquished both the Yankees in 7 games and the Cardinals in 4 straight to kill two baseball birds with one stone. Despite 2004's triumph, I am one who respects and fears your Yankees for decades. How could I not respect and envy the Yankees - the World Championships, the every-year Playoffs, the virtually unlimited payroll and the iconic brand? Our fiercest rivals, AL East titles at stake every year and the successes of the Reggie and Jeter eras added multiple World Series titles while I had to wait until 2004. Not easy to say the least. I have also been defending Aaron Boone, Brian Cashman & Hal Steinbrenner against the incredible vitriol spewed by so many "fans", many of whom I believe go way too far without thinking of realistic alternatives. Fire Cashman and send him away with his 5 Rings and ultimate visit to the Induction Ceremony in Cooperstown? Who replaces him? Similarly, who replaces Boone and his .585 lifetime Winning %? Only Dave Roberts is better, and he isn't going anywhere, especially to the Bronx. BUT, after last night's disaster, I am seeing the light of the frustration that all Yankee fans have and you so well articulated. I never loved Gerrit Cole's attitude, or his curious transformation from decent pitcher to superstar, especially with the taint of cheating scandals from PEDs to sign stealing to doctoring the baseball - so, his success was always somewhat suspect in my mind. However, his post-injury comeback and last night's shameful performance has led me to conclude that he just isn't that good, at least this year and now as unreliable as the rest of your pitching staff - and that is a bad feeling for any baseball fan to have - and a feeling any Bosox fan knows all to well. You said it all and, as always, base your observations and opinions on real facts and insight. What struck me was your recollection of Cole allowing a whopping 7 HRs in two games vs. the METS. How could any self-respecting Yankee fan accept that, especially with the $$$ Cole is receiving year-in & year-out? You are also right about not being able to ride the 49 - 21 start all the way to October without a single truly dependable starter or reliever. Not to mention a roster full of non-clutch hitters sporting low .200 averages, or worse, with OPS' in the .600 range throughout the line-up - then leaving it all up to Soto and Judge - an impossible task over the remaining 58 games. So, to all the Yankee fans I have criticized for spewing vitriol and being wholly unreasonable, after last night's debacle and shameful performance I understand how unlimited your rage can be. The only thing you have to look forward too, as Mike astutely pointed out, is facing my Red Sox, who came out of the All-Star Break on our knees and are now flat on our backs after the Rockies crushed us 20 - 7 yesterday. I truly do not know how the current Red Sox can avoid getting you back to some normalcy with the way we are playing right now - incredibly, even worse than you at the moment. But, one warning, if we win this upcoming Series, or sweep you, your season is probably over and the pressure on Hal to "do something" will be justifiably overwhelming. Of course, I will be rooting for us to sweep you by some miracle and therefore render your pain and suffering unbearable - not because I am at all sadistic - but only because I am a baseball fan
@_BigTimer85Ай бұрын
Sox fan here as well. Concerning to say the least with the way they have played since coming out of the break. The break came at the absolute worst time for this team. With that stated, a trip back to Fenway and taking on an equally struggling team maybe what the doctor has in order to right the ship
@stanfromwestport2024Ай бұрын
@@_BigTimer85 Hi Big...nice to meet you...Yes, we desperately need to right the ship...NOW...I believe this Series is in NY...the 2024 Sox are a conundrum for sure...Could finish last, or win it all...the possibilities are that wide...which makes it hard on everyone, except cardiologists...LOL...the good news is that we can rely on Raffa and the break-out Duran is having as a true star...BTW, down here in NY, the talk radio and blog/You-tubes are the MOST entertaining in years...between the surging METS and collapsing Yankees...pure comedy gold, as Seinfeld show once said...!!! I actually estimated (NOT "predicted") that the METS would win 88 games when they were 23 - 33 on WFAN Radio's Joe Benigno Saturday Show - My reasoning was that I really believed the METS had a slightly better line-up than the 2022 101 Win team - one big reason was JD Martinez, who I always loved and admired as a very clinical hitter taking a scientific approach. Statistically, the METS were .623 Winning % in 2022 for the season. At 23 - 33, they had to go 65 - 41 to get 88 Wins, a .613 Clip...You shoulda heard the reactions...A subsequent caller said the "that guy Stan should be drug tested"...LOL... I point this out because, as fans, we are emotional and forget about statistical probabilities...Like the Yankees not being able to continue .700 ball when they peaked @ 49 -21. The same with players underperforming or outperforming because baseball is a fascinating game of Streaks (+) and Slumps (-) and we ALL forget that reality in the heat of the moment - because of emotions and "Recency Bias" - in other words, what has just happened will continue to happen - like Lindor, and now McNeil & Alonso breaking out - basically over time it is inevitable to come back to the mean or averages - for Teams & Players Anyway, nice to meet you and let's stay in touch...and HOPE the Sox SWEEP this weekend...!!!

Probably. And you liked it every time he did that and there was total madness surrounding all those losing teams? Just curious. Cause all that stopped and they started winning. You don’t remember?
@vrj40Ай бұрын
He wouldn't have hired Boone in the first place with NO previous MLB managing experience! Why was Boone ever hired for this position? I honestly don't understand it?
@tonylauria8496Ай бұрын
What about Cashman? He's a bigger problem than Boone.
@richardmason391Ай бұрын
@@tonylauria8496 Definitely! He hired Boone in the first place and is responsible for all the terrible moves. His ass should have been gone as well.
@richardmason391Ай бұрын
@@bg_7_7 Honestly, at this point, I'd rather see accountability.

Hey Mike. First time long time. It’s called the subway series but they don’t play inside a train, it makes no sense Mike. I’ll hang up and listen now

You are right Mike. They come to bat unprepared and not ready for any pitch

Wonder if Mike will eventually have a take on the opening ceremony disgrace.

Man that was awesome!

we do this every year now. The team underperforms, Boone says “dont worry, it’s all right there in front of us”. Cashman says “Hey guys, something’s gotta change” then nothing changes

Evil empire is long gone. So is Soto
@jimdee898Ай бұрын
soto = so so
@jqight740Ай бұрын
The new Evil Empire should be the Astros based on the cheating scandals. COVID burried them from that label.

I understand he's a Yankee Homer, but give the Mets credit. They had a plan, hitting wise and pitching wise Cmon they deserve credit!!!!
@NothingToPointOut24Ай бұрын
As great as Judge is, he has zero killer instinct. He'll never be the best player on a WS team. The rest of the team is flat out garbage though and honestly Soto to the Mets seems like a likely outcome. Yanks are really lucky the O's are playing as bad as they are or this division would be over. In reality it probably is. And Cole was rushed back and now he'll probably never be what he once was. Another brilliant Yankee overthinking move.
