this wasn;t just a game winning HR, it was a Season Redeeming home run for a guy who we had loved on this team for 6 years now. We are all super happy for pete

Couldn't have said it better myself I never was out on pete but I did acknowledge his struggles this year and after that bomb I said Pete just erased all his sins this year on one swing

“I walked in here today like Pete Alonso on his way to first base.” Totally! This is surreal. It doesn’t feel real - like a dream. I’m so happy for Pete. Pete “struggled” this year with 34HRs & 88RBIs while Lindor’s 33HRs & 91RBIs have sparked MVP calls. Even the best have off-years. Our fantastic announcer Gary Cohen pointed out how Pete has been a fan favorite since his call up. He’s a homegrown Met who plays every day, never complains, never causes drama, is a leader, does fantastic things off the field & is the co-face of the franchise with Lindor. We are not resigning 37 year old JD Martinez who was important this year but is a shell of his former self. Pete is an original Mets draft pick & again, home grown. He’s 29 & one of the games best power hitters who is in his prime. He’s not demanding record money. Mets GM David Stearns made his mark deftly running small market teams. He is the GM of one of the richest Big-market teams in all sports. I’m not saying he needs to spend loot willy-nilly but extending Pete isn’t just a no brainer, it’s crucial. Also Severino, Manaea & Quintana are all going to be free agents. 37 yo Quintana pitched his guts out vs the Brewers but likely won’t be resigned as we start to transition in some of our top electric young hitting & pitching prospects. Continuity & chemistry matters so it’d be stupid to let 3/5 of our rotation walk. The Mets already burned themselves letting Wheeler & Lugo, among others walk in free agency. Alonso, Severino & Manaea are all in their prime & producing, but their veteran leadership & knowledge will be vital to helping our young players. Whatever happens the rest of the way, there’s no doubt that this team is special. Again, so happy for Pete. What a moment & what a game! Lots of respect for the Brewers & their classy fans. One team wins while another must lose. One fan base is elated while one is deflated. The Brewers & their fans have nothing to be ashamed about. Next up is despised rivals the Phillies. Let’s Go! Let’s Go Mets!

I won't say I prayed for it but I did say to myself "now would be a good time" and imagined the score reading 3-2 Mets. True story.

The Monday game the Mets clinched the playoffs was a roller coaster of emotions 🧡💙

There's been a lot of big time home runs in the playoffs and World Series. Honestly that whole at bat was epic. First pitch wasn't in his wheel house so he let it go for a strike but still worked the 3-1 hitters count. Somehow he knew Williams wasn't going to give in to his wheel house. He guessed away. He let it get deep on him and barreled it absolutely perfect. His head right on it. He hit that so square that it was like he just flicked it over the fence. Honestly the only 2 post season home runs I think that were better were Fisk's in 1975 Game 6 and Kurt Gibson's for the Dodgers in 1988 against the A's. I know a lot of people will disagree with me but IMO that was one hell of a tough at bat and I have no iron in the fire.

The guy subbing for Rich is doing a pretty spot-on Rich Eisen impression, even mimicking with the pen in the right hand. But it's weird, because I don't think he's conscious of it. And this is not an SNL skit. He needs to be himself more I'd say.

The best part to me was that every Mets hitter knew if Williams was going to throw a fast ball or change up because he was tipping his pitches.

The Mets have been playing that way all year. The same thing happened vs. the Braves in the first game of the double header. I can't even tell you how many times they've been shut down all game just to demolish the bullpen.

It cleared the fence by 6-10 feet. Frelick, if he knew where he was, had no chance of grabbing it. Screw the launch angle and exit velocity stats.

So when you say it may be Pete's last at bat, is he retiring or was it a matter of not being able to afford him? If it's the latter someone is going to be writing that check as he was one of two batters that actually turned up - I wouldn't even think twice about cutting most of the rest of them before cutting Pete.
@SirVic423 ай бұрын
The amount of money Pete made for himself with that homer...... If he had hit into a double play, it ends the Mets season and possibly his Mets career. Home run puts the Mets ahead and Pete is a hero. Gotta pay him now.
