Almost $700.... that's MORE expensive than a lot of good 27" 1440p IPS monitors or hell even some lenses. Hard skip for me on this one. I'd consider it at $300ish, no way would I buy this for $700.
@RichFreeman5 жыл бұрын
Yikes. I'm thinking about using a monitor and a Chromecast as an improvised photo frame. I just can't stand that every frame I've seen is so low resolution. Many aren't even 1080p. Right now I'm using an old Nexus 10 as a photo frame. 10" and 300dpi. Sure, it isn't ideal and the bezel is large by today's standards, but good luck finding something better for sale at almost any price. You'd think with all the tablets out there that 10-20" 200-300dpi displays would not be so hard to find in a dedicated frame.
@Dav35235 жыл бұрын
I've seen one of these in real life, and I was fooled into thinking it was a print, until out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the image changed. If you want a monitor, with a bezel (rather than frame), and the buttons and logos, go for the monitor.
@randysem4 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen one IRL and I agree that the price is quite an investment. However I think the experience for something like this is also important. If it displays beautiful pieces of art or cherished fotographs in a manner that lets one forget it is actually digital. And it can hung up there for decade. Perhaps it could be worth the money then. It is quite lonely in its segment. I do have doubts about most tvs/monitors offering that photo experience. Unfortunately I don't see a device like this going on sale very often.

The $700 price no matter what you'd said earlier would be a shocker, but when it was preceded by 4 or 5 significant negative points that already make you think it's not something you'd want, well that just puts the nail in the coffin. Paying that price for something awesome (whatever it might be) is not a problem, but paying it for something you'd rate at $50 based on its shortcomings ... that ain't gonna happen.

The best picture display I've used is my Google Home Hub. The screen changes brightness automatically and adjusts it's white balance to match the room. It looks like a paper print. It's wild. Have you used that device to compare to this frame? Does it do the white balance adjustments? Also, how does it look at night? Does it go dark to not be distracting? I know a lot of people are going to complain about the price, but I can get why it would cost that much and why it's not just a simple monitor - lots of little things have to go into making it seemless in a room that is a niche product. Thanks for putting this on the radar

1 android compatible motherboard with USB port. 1 screen. 1 wooden frame around it. Maybe $30 for those parts. They probably do not even have to write any software to show the pictures as that stuff already exists. The parts needed to make it work are tiny and so fit easily into such a thick frame. You could put it together in one afternoon, no specially designed parts needed apart from some cuts into the wooden frame.

@@0ooTheMAXXoo0 I get what you're saying - but I think that misses the finer points of what this particular picture frame does. Checked out Amazon and still don't know: where are the photos stored? Are they inside the frame, do you have to have a PC connected by wifi, can you adjust the slideshow speed.... I don't know anything about how you set it up, operate it, change the photos, adjust the brightness...
@jojoaausone5 жыл бұрын
The photos are stored on Meural's website. You upload your pics. Additionally, you can stick in a thumb drive, but it isn't necessary. For a yearly subscription, you can also access Meural's library of thousands of pieces of the art of many periods, artists and genres. This is an important feature that Tony didn't mention. You can organize your library into playlists, set the time interval for cycling through a playlist, etc. It has an ambient light sensor and can be set to go to sleep automatically in a dark room. Yes it's very pricey, and I'd prefer a 2x3 aspect ratio, but you don't need to crop to 16X9, since the frame will add white borders around other ratios. The only adjustment possible on their site is cropping. My Meural reads a bit too yellow, to my eye. I counteract this by tweaking the yellows in Lr before uploading. Overall, I'm glad I bought it.
@henryD93635 жыл бұрын
@@jojoaausone Thanks. Can you set the slideshow speed and does it adjust the brightness based on the room brightness? @jojoaausone5 жыл бұрын
@@henryD9363 Yes, you can set the slideshow speed in the Canvas settings (each Meural you own is called a "canvas" and has a name). It has pretty good control features, although as Tony demonstrated, the swiping on the canvas is a bit hit or miss. But, you can swipe perfectly on their phone app. Here is some relevant info from the Meural website. Check out their site for a lot more specifics. Honest, they're not paying me! 😄 "The ambient light sensor measures the light in the room and adjusts the Canvas screen accordingly. The light sensor options can be adjusted on my.meural.com. To access these, click on the image of your Canvas in the lower lefthand corner of the screen and then click Settings in the upper lefthand corner. Scroll down to Light Sensitivity, which can be adjusted to Low, Normal, or High. To use the Scheduler, go to my.meural.com and click on the user icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Next, click on Canvases. In the upper right hand corner of the next screen, click on Scheduler. With the Scheduler, you can put the Canvas to sleep and wake it up at certain times of day. To do this, press the purple plus sign and enter in the time you want the Canvas to be on or off, select the day or days you want this to happen in the drop down menu, and below this select the action you want to perform. Once you hit save, you will see a banner at the bottom of the screen stating that the Scheduler has been updated. To delete an action, click on the circular arrow next to the action, and then click on the garbage can. The Scheduler can also be used to schedule playlists at certain times. Follow the steps above, click on the Playlist action and select from your playlists. Remember to click on the Save button to make your changes permanent. "
@L-Bj5 жыл бұрын
John H, yes and yes plus one can also manual scroll through the images and manual set the brightness. At least Android version 4.10.0 has scheduler build into it, so you can set it up from your mobile. For expanding storage it has a microSD card slot to be precise, not a typical 'thumb drive'. Furthermore there's 4gb storage available, images uploaded in the cloud. Or just use your mobile internal storage. A lot of options all in all.

I think the digital photo frame market has to be careful with price. We use our TV connected to an AppleTV as our digital photo frame. There are so many other types of multi-media devices out there which make it incredibly easy to do. So I think pricing themselves higher will only cut out a larger segment of the population who would rather put that $$ towards a fully functional TV. There will be folks out there willing and able to put the $ out for one of these frames, but I would guess not as many. The ratio is definitely different. I would much rather have something more in line with traditional photography because it simply makes it easier to export out of whichever editing program and that file can have many uses instead of having an export specifically for this frame.

If you display a 3:2 image with the frame in horizontal positioning or 2:3 in portrait positioning does the user have a choice whether to crop the image or show the whole image, albeit with letter-boxing (i.e. borders)? To be concise can you force the unit to show an entire standard Full Frame or ASPC image? Would greatly appreciate an answer to this as being forced to crop or having the device crop my images would be a deal breaker. Many thanks.

that’s a whole lot of money if you keep in mind that it’s just a picture frame and your electricity bill will also get higher... I mean people are maybe just watching the frame for a moment and don’t stare at it like on a TV or something... however, when I’m rich and don’t know how to waste money anymore I may get a cuple of them...

I'd love to buy the white version of this... It looks really good, but $600?! Yikes!!

It's a cool product but it's so expensive for something with issues as a picture frame (lower res and 16:9, what???). You could buy a refurb ipad and frame that, or a cheap 4k monitor and stick a Chromecast on it and use that as the slide show. If you tie it to Google photos you can upload images remotely too

You can buy a new iPad and frame and still save money.. A 45" 4k tv costs the same or less and that must have a more powerful computer in there as well. Lots of them have very little frame and are very flat... This picture frame seems like it was not specially designed for the purpose at all (see how thick it is). It seems to have a screen from 2 or 3 generations ago (probably very cheap) and you do not need much computer power to display pictures or HD video... Just crap designed to sell to rich people who do not know any better it seems.

I mean it looks great. But...I do feel you can build this DIY for less with decent results. As our ubernerd ill be waiting for that video Tony.

Jeez o Pete, that’s expensive! Really nice, but I can’t see myself paying $700. I’d rather buy a macro for that price 🤷🏽♀️

Concept-wise it is a good product, but it looks like it needs some more improvements and a lower price point.
