Note: Sora's most consistent 2-frame option is dash attack, however down smash is also extremely good. However, in order to 2-frame with down smash, you must hit the opponent with the Keyblade itself (this hitbox is active for about 4-5 frames). The shockwave does not 2-frame.

Jason, for the side b, you don't have to mash the B button to get the second and third hits. Holding B locks on, meanwhile holding a direction WITHOUT B automatically continues the attack in the direction you are holding. So you can input side B once, then hold the direction you want to go without pressing any buttons. Mashing B locks on to foes if they are in range. You can even let go of the control stick before the end of the second dash and cut the move short. The more you know.

you can cut it after the first one or the second one it's really useful if you're close enough in range that they can't block and you can move it right into another attack while they're stunned

How do I escape the homing side B when playing against Sora?

@@Cystlib if you get hit by the first hit, the followups are guaranteed. If you block the first, he is really laggy before each followup and after he finishes. Its really easy to punish, just a bit hard to react to that first side b online.

Hard to imagine this is most assuredly the finale of M2K's Ultimate DLC Character Guides. Ironically enough you can chart the improvements Jason made throughout, and just as he's at his peak and has gotten incredibly good at presenting all this info in an entertaining fun way that's easy to follow.... now there's no more ultimate characters on the horizon. Looking forward to plenty of other content whatever it may be, would enjoy seeing more melee content for sure. Thank you Jason and Domo and everyone at MVG for all the great work you guys do. Sora's counter ignores moves that grant invincibility. It can punish wonderwing. Since it stops the move it's countering before punishing it invincible moves won't save you.

Something extra to note: - the first hit of side b has considerably less end lag and actually true combos into jab if you hit towards the end of the move - IDJ fair after d-throw at low percents can be dragged down after the second hit (if you hit idj fair it cancels vertical momentum) which can lead to cool strings, or give you more damage from dthrow at low percents than nair or short hop fair - short hop firaga on shield can have some cool mixups because it stalls aerial momentum and has little end lag. Haven’t tested this but seems possible - fsmash 2 frames

Thanks M2K! I think using fast fall to cancel Nair/Fair after the second hit lets u convert & unlocks his combo game. Also falling up air is kinda like smash 4 Cloud & close fire combos into down tilt/side B sometimes.

Yeah when sora dropped i was instantly fast falling from the 2 hit air combo into blizzard,fire,forward smash, etc. Its really good.

Point blank firaga consistantly combo's into jab. Thundaga lands closer when used in the air, and covers sora better against skinny characters, but his thundaga struggles to consistantly combo above 70-90%. Blizzaga is great for edguarding without much commitment, since it's a lingering projectile that freezes very easily. You do not need to press B more than once using side B. It's similar to Pikachu's recovery, in that it moves with just analog input. To stop moving, stop moving the analog. To home, press B repeatedly.

One thing I'd like to point out about blizzaga is that it's a good in your face off stage interception tool because it hits extremely rapidly multiple times in one spot and then of course freezes them, at high percents they'll definitely die frozen, and at lower percents you can pressure or hit them with forward air before and after a break out, which you can easily do because also the ice block increases their hit box so that helps the skinny issue obviously. And even if you trade with them, they get stunned so you're still at advantage for an up b aerial wall. Sora might definitely be the best offstage wall in the game, at least the most versatile. And theoretically speaking the way all of these magic moves work together is that at mid range zoning distance, firaga forces jumps and thundaga catches those jumps with its insane aerial coverage, and blizzaga gimps them off stage after.

Hey man, regarding the Side B, if you input side b, and the other dashes with A, you can aim wherever you want.

You don't need to press A, you just need to keep inputting directions. If you keep clicking B it homes. If you let go of the control stick it stops the dash.

You and me both! I predicted Sora being the last fighter and being a fighter since near the beginning of DLC pack 1. I think Namco Bandai did an excellent job balancing Sora! He's a great character with a lot of solid moves, but nothing broken that requires him getting a nerf. I think he's a solid fair S tier character. I didn't even think of using down aeriel like that! I usually ignore these type of moves since they've always been bad! I knew his recovery was amazing and one of the best if not the best, but did not think of testing to see if he could come back from using that off stage. Very good details to note Jason. Thank you. I would never guess that Sora was heavier than Sephiroth. I want to know why Sephiroth is so light.

One thing I won't be able to sleep without pointing out is Soras Blizzaga keeps enemies frozen longer if you continuously press/mash B as it is being cast.

I think Sora is pretty great. At least he’s fun asf to play. If he’s able to be truly optimized I think he could be a top tier but at worst I see him as one of those weird high tiers that does really well against a lot of good/great characters but has a few awful matchups with some of the low tiers

Another interesting mechanic, IDJ Nair does the normal floaty jump but IDJ fair cancels the jump height and is almost float cancel height. Might be good for different combo routes

Another thing M2K is down air is game changing if people juggle you and get greedy if you hit them with down air at 80-90% it'll send them into the blast zone because it launches up. That's the only implication that I use on stage other than for mixups.

GUYS, idj up air into up B combos as a kill confirm, works out of back hit nair and down throw. Really good kill confirm and with the right string you can get easy 0-deaths, trust me. Stuff like fast fall fair into down tilt into up tilt into idj up air into up B is really nice

Something you missed about blizzaga is that it does alot of damage to sheild to the point that i think blizzaga + i think down tilt sheild breaks? i forgot which move it was after blizzaga breaks the sheild.

All they need to do is make his combo hitboxes more consistent. A lot of them drop simply because the hitbox is messed up against certain characters or maybe even all of them.(Or maybe his floatynes is at fault here?) Also maybe have the first hit in his side b to be aimable in any direction to really give him the the air control or would that be too broken?

You don't need to hold or mash B for side B, you can just press B once then hold the stick to control it. B only toggles the homing ("rave mode"). By letting go of both B and the stick you can choose to do 1, 2 or 3 dashes!

I noticed something about thunder. This missing opponents stuff happens quite often chatacters can just randomly not get hit and it can seem like there just passing through it. Maybe that's just me, plus it seems inconsistent for example if you only land the second strike of it there is a chance the 3rd won't hit especially higher percents theyjust get sent flying from the second hit and miss the 3rd. If anybody else is getting this and knows why please let me know. Thanks I advance

The thunder hit box is just really narrow, causing inconsistency. However, you can mitigate this by using short hop thunder because the thunders come out much closer together when you do the move in the air. It won’t have as much range, but it will greatly improve consistency.

The counter will work from behind if the move that hits you also reaches to your front. Also side b is only really useful for recovery or after an out-of-shield up b.
