I'm coloured South African now living in England and I don't think anyone had ever guessed correctly that I'm South African, I very often get asked if Mexican or Philippino. I've been asked if I was Chinese Jamaican mix. Also another interesting fact about us is our "mixing" happened several generations ago, by this I mean, here in the UK mixed people often mostly have 1 black and 1 white parent. Whereas, my parents are both coloured and so we're their parents and theirs the actual mixing happened several generations back. So I have on my father's side some Indian heritage with some European and native South African Khoisan, and my mother's side is Native Khoisan and European, German/British...

You are indeed a true South African! Your advantage is that in South Africa, no one can put you in a box😉 My best friend has also coloured, but parents and grandparents, were Zulu, Jewish( Goldstein) and coloured that might also brings up an interessting combination of ethnic groups. I always say that mixed race people are indeed the true South Africans. because it shows that there were true integration that took place generations ago. You can imagine as a white person, I am not very popular for my take on our racial tentions and Apartheid could have never happended🙂 Look at Brazel and the races are very much integrated and when you live there you are a Brazilian and no reference to our skin color. I have many coloured friends, speaking afrikaans and English. I just love them soo much as there is soo much they contributed and still are to our country. Fact is that they are still getting the same raw deal under ANC as what they did under apartheid.🥲 Time to come back to sunny SA. Too cold in Eng and too many up stiffer lips for my liking😂

Fun fact, Cape Malays have always been grouped and classified as coloured (not Asian) we speak Kaaps, no our language i.e. Kaaps is not "all but completely dissappeared" it's very much alive and spoken widely by the creole/mixed/coloured group at the Cape. It's closer to the original Dutch (from the earliest colonial times in the 1600-1700's) mixed with Arabic; Malay/Indonesian; Khoekoen/Khoisan & other Nguni languages. No coloured people do not feel "left out" or as of they "don't fit in" anywhere, not sure where they get their "facts" as these might be sentiments of a few but definitely an overwhelming sentiment. Also, we do have our own cultural, traditional, cuisine and language. Most prominent religions are Christianity and Islam. A very inclusive people group who is unfortunately still plagued and mostly marginalized by the history of Colonial settlement, slavery, Apartheid and poor current governance and the social ills these have caused.

Shaka Zulu was elevated course he fought the blacks disenfranchised a large group of Ngunis, which most traveled south bound to join the Xhosa. This group of people are now known as Mfengu group also enabled the colonizers to gain more ground in the Eastern Cape.

@agrid26082 жыл бұрын
khoisan is a word invented in the 1920s by Leonhard Schultze. There was never historically such a singular group. It only makes sense as a linguistic abstraction for a academic historical moribund framework. It is meaningless, because the hunter-gatherers and agro-pastoralists were already blended by the time the Europeans arrived. The heritage of those very people are the nations that arose during colonialism in the native reserves e.g Xhosa. This is precisely where the video was wrong & ahistorical: these are NOT two separate distinct groups, but descendants who formed the modern cultures like Xhosa, Tswana etc which are based on a nucleus of past chiefdoms/houses absorbing hundreds of clans in resistance to colonialism.

Yeah literally a GAZILLION things in one place on earth. SA has the means to outrank every country, but it's run by complete and utter uneducated morons/criminals. Our military was once, in the past era, a force to be recon with. We are extremely out spoken, self-critising, often complain because we always WANT/DEMAND everything to be better (why the Springboks are 1 in the world). But in the same breath, the most kind and humble people as well. The Christian part is also true, we have churches around ever corner and even though there is catholics here, we tend to frown upon them. We have "beaf" with New Zealand, and we have "beaf" with England. (lol).

If you don't want to be black then don't claim khoi/san heritage because they are most definitely black. You will not get an ounce of sympathy when we are on the bottom of the hierarchy of South Africa. As a mixed person, you are closer to European features and treated so much better. One poor disabled boy was murdered by a cop and the whole country grinded to a halt. We get murdered by cops every day and nothing is done about it. A 3 year old was shot multiple times and murdered during the Phoenix massacre a few weeks ago and nothing. So we don't care anymore if black lives don't matter in Africa then we will stop caring.
