I began playing school rugby at 11 we had a really good team and won a lot of tournaments. Never had too many injuries just a couple of dislocated shoulders broken fingers lots of bruises. I continued playing and finally gave up in my late 30s. My daughter is now playing for the county and is now selected for the national team.

They are all "fairly young". These are High School boys, 17/18 year olds. Although I saw one clip where the one boy stiff arms another, around the 2:42 minute mark, the bar underneath said "Paarl Boys U/14".........so yes, in that clip the boys are 14 years old.

Some of the schools insist on making these events compulsory. If you want to attend the school then attending these events is also mandatory. That is one of many reasons to explain the amount of spectators.

I love rugby but this is why I never played it in high school. I was super thin and would brake bones constantly. Kids are a whole different level. The common thing kids did was punch each other while you get tackled, in scums or in rugs. And the refs were like "walk it off"

Really love your reactions, the thing about rugby that most everyone overlooks, is that is one of the sports for nearly every able body size, like whether being fat, skinny, tall, short etc. All you have to do is exercise and be fit and you can be accommodated 😊, that's the true value that every little kid no matter the size, but if they work hard their accepted into that team, then there's the morals and values that one learns from being in a team sport, any team sport ofcourse....

the caps are callewd scrum caps and that stuff coming off the kids ear is tape, its to prevent cauliflower ear. you need to watch the grey's college history. they have like a 95% win rate in the last 50 or 60 years

No steroids. Very strict on that at school level. South Africans are just built different. Most of the top level rugby school have state of the art conditioning centers, top level coaches, nutritionists etc😊
