Gracias carnal.. I’m Mexican American- Chicano, mother and father from Los Altos de Jalisco.I have a passion for my cultura, the food, people, pueblos, playas, etc. It feels good to physically see a pyramid, or cenote. I’m the last of the old school, I was a teenager in the late 80’s early 90’s and I say to all the youngster’s, be proud of your heritage and carry your self with honor and dignity. Don’t be misguided by what you hear and see, but rather be guided by what your heart tells you. VIVA LA RAZA/ VALLERO

The things some people claim are stupid sometimes. Mexican people not born in Mexico are not Mexican. Chinese people born outside of China are not Chinese lol and so on. Regardless that's their cultura.

Actually the only one spouting idiocy here is you. Even though there is one sense in which a Chinese person born outside of China is no longer Chinese, that only means that their nationality is no longer Chinese. But in terms of lineage and heritage, they are obviously Chinese. To say, definitively, that they are not Chinese is a stupid claim. Likewise, to claim that their nationality remains Chinese even though they're not born in China is also stupid. My paternal grandmother is from Chihuahua My paternal grandfather is from Juarez My maternal grandmother is from Baja My maternal grandfather is from Durango. I know where my family comes from. We are Mexican. I was born in California. They did not teach me Spanish because my grandfather was locked in the closet by the white man for not knowing English. He did not want his children or grandchildren going through the same thing, so he did not teach my mother Spanish, who did not teach me Spanish. This country has tried very hard to erase the identity of its Chicanos and when Mexican Nationals try and tell us that we're not Mexican it rubs salt on the wound. What Chicanos mean when we say we are Mexican is that our heritage and ancestry is Mexican, and our culture and experience in the United States is such as to make us significantly different from those Americans of non-Mexican descent. To say that being of Mexican ancestry, but being born outside of Mexico somehow disqualifies you from being Mexican is actual imbecility. Even the fourth generation Mexican has a different experience in the United States from the fourth Generation Chinese person or German. This difference is specifically BECAUSE of that ancestry and the cultural practices that come with it. I don't know if you claim to be Mexican, or Chicano, or what, but to say Chicanos are not Mexicans is just like saying Chihuahuas are not dogs. It is illogical to think that referring to me as Chicano means you are not also calling me a Mexican.

They call us Pochos because we are everything they want to be. Jealousy and resentment. I prefer being Chicano over anything else.

MEXICANO = MECHICANO MEXICALI = CHICALI

The problem is that the colonial narrative has people thinking that ones identity comes from ones nationality and not from ones blooodline. There was basically no need for mexicanamericans to create another identity but it was the colonial policies and racism from both u.s and Mexicans down south which kind of forced them to create a geo-political identity for themselves The problem with the chicano label is that many separatists use it as a form to distance themselves from their true indigenous mexican roots creating more division

Agreed. This is really ironic too, considering that Chicano comes from the Indigenous nahuatl word Mexica, which is pronounced "Mechika". It's supposed to be a call back to our indigenous roots.

Not really bro, xicanismo is something ingrained into the heart by those who chose to embrace it. Alot of Mexican Americans are not xicanos and its painful obvious. Not necessarily white washed but definitely out of touch with our roots.
