Well, as a so-called black man, I respect myself and I respect others. I've never had any problem with the Hispanic community. In fact, the fact that I speak some spanish helped to break barriers of racial stereotypes and perceptions.

Thank you for asking the question. I’m a 71 year old Mexican American born in Texas, but grew up as a migrant since I was6 years old living in Wisconsin, Michigan, Idaho, Oregon and over 60 years ago we settled in central California. Been here since. Yes farm country. When I was a young boy me and my older brother worked in farm labor and at times with black labor contractors, so we worked with lots of black peoples from the south. Never had a problem with them, good hard working people and very neutral in how they treated us. I went to schools with black people and as far as I’ve seen there is good people and bad people with lots of attitudes in between. We finally mixed in with Caucasian people in high school. This was during the equal rights movements. We were involved with the movement here. We connected and felt we shared injustice with black people because we were abused and mistreated too, by a racist society. We understand the black peoples feelings and supported equal rights as we were aware we too would benefit. I made and had several black friends growing up and some have passed, but it seems to me that although we were cautious and weary of each other in the beginning we later realized we’re all just sharing this journey called life.

My mentality was do or die. I stayed for two years, an looking back on it . I had to physicaly earn that job, through blood sweat an tears. Until this day Im in touch with some mexican loved ones i call family.

As an Italian that did time with both in California, in my opinion it comes down to culture. You guys are so opposite and yet so alike, strong, proud people! The brothers come off more relaxed and laid back, the Mexicans are more militant and structured. Both are proud and strong. But when one is militant and the others relaxed and chill, they're going to clash. On a personal basis both are a lot more alike then some probably think. But I believe if we get to know one another on a personal level we will find common ground with just about anyone.

As A Mexican From Florida Ima tell you exactly why on no biased shit. As a kid I remember there was a lot of gang activity going on and a lot of Mexicans that worked in the fields would get robbed on a weekly basis by mostly black people because they carried cash from changing their checks on the weekend at the store and they knew that mexicans don’t wanna call the cops because they are scared they might get in trouble with immigration since they don’t have papers so they were seen as easy targets. My family worked in field work so we moved to different states to work on the east coast from Florida to georgia to North Carolina to New Jersey we would hear about other Mexicans getting robbed on all those states by black people. I myself was robbed at gun point when I was only 16. In middle school it got bad because of how much the media was pushing gang culture in movies,tv and radio. So that’s why Mexicans and blacks went at it all over the U.S not only in cali. Did you see the trend on attacking the mexican street vendors? I know Also black rappers have done songs like blue face carne asada, tyga ay caramba, yg go loco, that we feel like our culture is getting mocked. Now it’s all different here in Florida blacks and Mexicans are cool af. Haitians living with Mexicans with no problem. I got respect for the black community because I understand that every race has bad apples and we shouldn’t judge someone by their skin color. I got alot of black friends and I like talking to the older black folks cus they got alot of wisdom.

COMPTON CALIFORNIA native here. I will share my story on why i feel theres tension. Back in the 80s blacks and Mexicans were good neighbors. We ate at each other's tables. Towards the end of that era drugs and gangs made it difficult. Blacks bullied and robbed Mexicans. My home was broken by a black person, my father was stabbed outside a liquor store by 2 blacks, i as well as other Mexicans were bullied at school. We were tired. We started to fight back. We weren't alone the Mexican gangs united too...enough was enough. In Compton high we constantly had racial riots, in prison too. Even if you're not racist all this attacks on Mexicans will make you feel like a racist because now you have to fight a group of people that constantly attacks yours. Im not saying that it doesn't happen to them too. Its a never ending cycle. Dont take it personal. This is life. Its difficult to get a long. I have a few good black friends. But for the most part i stay away from the rest. Does that make me racist or am i stereotyping a group because of my own personal experience. There will always be tensions until you break the ice with one at a time. Its difficult to accept all at once after fighting against them for over 4 decades. By the way i made it to my 90 day mark in a temp agency but was let go. I guess they didn't wanted to hire me. The job i did many quit after their lunch break. I was fresh out of prison i had the energy and drive to kick ass. I challenged myself to be a hard worker. I was getting paid $9.50 an hour. Im glad they let me go. The permanent workers were making.50¢ more an hour. I became a construction worker. Now i make $45.00 an hour doing something i like. Things happen for a reason. You know your worth. Its difficult to find good workers with great work ethics. Keep your head up. And sorry for your experience.

Also a native from Compton! But imm black! So let me tell you what I saw! He is right in the 70's and 80's blacks and Chicanos where cool! We out numbered the Chicanos about 70%- 30%! It don't surprise me that they where getting bullied! We where in the hood! Everybody was getting bullied! Everybody where getting jumped! It had nothing to do with your race! It had more to do with your block! The Chicanos had all the plugs coming into Cali from Mexico! So they had all the work! Some time during the end of the 80's there was a influx of pisas started coming to Cali! For those who don't know Chicanos are Mexican American! paisa's are from Mexico! So once the Paisas came and the Latinos numbers got up they started separating them selves! The Paisas brought with them La eMe or the Mexican Mafia! The Paisas was who the Chicanos where getting their work from! So now that the Paisas had more numbers than the Chicanos they started shot calling! Especially those in the California prison system! They put a green light on blacks! The Paisas hated black people! They where not use to us and they bought into the bs told to them by the Arians in prison! They where told not to fuck with us! Ever since those changes of demographics blacks and Mexicans have not gotten along!

Its gang related. I am native but got along well with both tribes. Blacks started the discrimination during the 70s as mexican families moved to Watts and Compton. That started Mexicans to join gangs to not be bullied by blacks. From there Mexicans started to grow on numbers and they became the largest ethnic group in California. They hated eachother. Also many prision inmates work on these jobs, and younglings have been taught to discriminate from both sides. Cali is a racist state, but to be honest Louisiana is also racist, Blacks and Whites make fun of us natives. So not feeling Louisiana either. Nevada, Utah, Washington, Arizona and New Mexico and Colorando is my homebase.

i’m mexican from la county raised in the 70s 80s 90s and the blacks that keep it real from that era would tell you that it was the blacks that would flex on the mexicans hardcore starting in elementary school all the way through high school and beyond to the streets, i’ve personally experienced it throughout my childhood as a little kid and what happened for me included is that after getting bigger and working out in high school was that we became racist too, started fighting back, joining gangs or forming alliances to get them back, and to honest the blacks were so tough that we had to be extra on our toes at all times around them and sometimes that carries though adulthood being always aware when blacks are around, so yes some mexicans can be racist but blacks used to be very racist towards mexicans for no reason other than i think we were seen as easy prey

So I never knew anything about the Mexican/ Black controversy until I met my Samoan coworker. Even when I traveled through southern California, I didn't notice it because I was just passing through. But growing up in central Texas, most of my memories of Mexican people I've known are some of my best memories. I did have one horrible experience in San Diego when I was in the military. I hung out with a girl from San Antonio Texas and after a few weeks I asked her out formally. She said her parents would never let her bring home a ni$&#r....... That's exactly how she said it. But what was crazy is we were going everywhere together for a few weeks before that. But that's the only time I can remember ever experiencing anything like that,.

I’m originally from Michigan and all my best friends growing up in elementary in the 70’s was black. We lived side by side from day one and never had no beef where we lived. We walked out our doors and experienced the same shit on a daily basis so we saw eachother as one.when I moved to Austin in the late 80’s you could definitely feel the tension and separation amongst us( I mean it is the south) it’s alot different now here in Texas now compared to then.

Dude, take a look at the culture you’re in. Why would any sane person want any part of that? I don’t mean to be patronizing as I I grew up in the slums of Newark, but think this through: If I want my children around ANYONE, it’s around a culture that values education and being successful. Not rap music, rapping about how many guns and magazines one has. Inner city poor people culture is riddled with (in-fighting, street fighting, gun violence, etc.), and obsession with just being rich/materialistic. I understand folks are a byproduct of their environment, but the truth is ugly. If black people as a collective were like Jews or Asians, no one would bat an eye. You can’t tell me with a straight face that Black America is in a good standing position. I understand yes Jim Crow and slavery traumatized generations, but from the perspective of an immigrant, they associate poor people culture as negative. Unfortunately blacks are the poster card image for poor people culture.

About right, it's not a race thing but definitely a cultural thing. For instance, I have some black friends and have high respect for guys like Thomas Sowell but I get annoyed by the typical misbehaved arrogant black stereotypes that reside in the inner cities. This isn't something just in the U.S. but there are also bad subcultures in Mexico too as well as in other countries of the world.

@@disgustedbrownsfan No, I just never quit liked a very large portion of the urban AFRICAN AMERICAN culture. I even respect and tend to more easily get a long with native Africans who have shown a more respectable and positive culture to their own communities. What traditions, habits, values, or social ways has the URBAN MODERN AFRICAN AMERICAN shown to positively impact or influence its own communities? There is a reason why many African Americans in the U.S. tend to easily become another negative statistic. Even Afro-Mexicans in coastal areas of Mexico don't make scandals scenes like many modern African Americans living in major urban cities. As far my own interaction with African Americans, it tends to be very polarizing. I either get along with them very well or I can immediately tell I'm going to deal with an arrogant typical lout. Unfortunately, I have had to get into multiple altercations with these punks to defend vulnerable people. In one of the many instances, this over 6ft guy was just randomly attacking normal pedestrians near my workplace including a female and chasing an old man. I stepped in and the punk saw I was wearing my elbow brace and thought he'd knockout an injured short Mexican guy, but I ended up slamming the want to be tough guy down. As soon as the cops came in, they already knew who the guy was (a frequent trouble maker)and informed me that he was most likely going to be let go and that he could also press charges on me for possibly me putting hands on him first. I told them, "if your friends or family members would have been the victims while walking this street, would you still let this punk go? " Those are the type of African Americans I don't care for, the ones who let garbage rap and other negative culture practices indoctrinate them to act as lowlifes. Thus, I definitely discriminate against certain culture but not the color of one's skin.

I can say that tense between blacks and Mexicans I literally wonder about every day of my life since I hit middle school ( I'm 33 now). God bless you brother and keep your head up. Also it's different when your in Texas and your in the city like Houston or Dallas and autstin. The suburbs on the out skirts of those areas are super racist but it's always the inner city that's more open, I can testify living in the outskirts of Kansas city where I'm at now is horrible, but once I go to the city the you can feel the tension release. Still not prefect, but so much better. Stay up ONe🫡

As a Mexican growing up in CA I've worked a LOT of warehouse jobs and from my experience what you describe is more about the hiring process. No joke every warehouse job that I got through an agency always fires people before the 90 days or whatever and only keep the top top performing people and usually they already have the top people hired. Why they do this I don't know. I'm assuming to reduce legal risk if you get injured because you're working through an agency. Not just that but for peak seasons they hire a lot of people and then let them go once it's over but I wasn't there so I don't know if it was racially motivated or not so yeah that's just what I think.

I got a rude awakening when I move to Dallas Texas. I experience the most racism I've ever experienced in my life. NOT from white people but from Mexican people. Thier hate and disrespectful tendencies has absolutely nothing on the way white people treat black ppl where I'm from. It's to the point that you have to literally get physical with them or else they will keep directly and/or indirectly targeting you. There are also extremely two faced. Some of them will pretend to like you, only so they can get close enough to disrespect you or to see if they can get enough information to use against you. Before interacting with them, i used to sympathize with their struggle. I used to think we were similar but we really need to be careful because they will take advantage of your sympathy. It's unfortunate, but there is a clear mix of jealousy and fear that we trigger in them. They see us as a threat in the same way that white ppl seen our enslaved ancestors.

I agree with you I'm a welder on the night shift working in the warehouse and I'm the only black person working with all Mexicans I do my work I don't talk to anybody and I worry about what I have to worry about and like you said I work hard and I know everything in the shop but these were contractor Mexicans I work for the company one guy left 6 years ago and came back I have the top craftsmanship in the company but I am under a Mexican who can't speak good English in his craftsmanship isn't better than mine hands down while I'm working they talk about what they're going to do on the weekend if I stop to give my eyes a break or use the bathroom number two then I'm not doing any work that's what they tell the supervisor over the whole shop which is his boss and my boss this causes you to feel that type of energy that they want to compete with you over your job and if you're doing better than them then they don't want you around I strictly think about providing for my family when I work communication with others on this night shift is cut to none my production is up to par and even though they don't produce like I do they get praise I've been getting the short end of the stick for 3 months now I'm thinking about going back to day shift because they can't see the work that I'm doing supposedly

@@cryptowalk1387 well if you want clarity then….he cant say all mexicans. Simply because its his experience in one place…his work. If he says all mexicans then guess what will happen? Ppl will by default just lump…”…all mexicans”.. into one mass of racists. And that….is flat out wrong. Im lving proof and all the mexicans i know that we are not racists against blacks. Then consider …are they all mexicans?are there any …Salvadoians..guatemalans…venzuelians … Puerto ricans…and on and on ….there also? Just how some ppl think all asians are chinese or what have you…same applys here. I'm going to Louisiana as well from Shreveport and I don't have anything against Mexican people my best friend is Mexican but when I'm working and I work the Psychiatric hospitals the Mexican guys do not like other black guys, they're intimidated by them, have had their women taken by black dude, and some have been robbed and taken out when it comes to the drug game. Some Hispanic people are confident and secure and actually like other black people and our friends with them. In California it's bad because you got sets areas and neighborhoods that don't always click unless you grow up in the neighborhood and they have accepted you. Statistically speaking whites kill whites blacks kill blacks and Hispanics kill Hispanics and most people among their own communities kill each other but in some cases it can be any other race and when that happens sometimes you have a family of people hating the race that took their family member out.

Im going to keep it 💯 with you. No biased. I'm born and raised and still live in North East L.A. and I'm from the Avenues Sureno Gang. Growing up in North East L.A. were predominantly Mexicans , with Asians and a little sprinkle of Black and white back in the day. I grew up with Asians, and a few whites and blacks. I've met alot of cool people. But from what I remember and recalled it was a Crip name Football Williams attacked a elderly Mexican trucker on live TV during the LA riots which LA Eme put the green light on him. Years down the line, East Coast Crips, 6 pak clicked robbed Florencia 13 trap house which kicked off the war . Brothers reputation out here are known as being grimy and scandalous that even the Asian hoods out here are aware of it and won't do business with them Brothers also. I'm pretty sure there were more incidents in the past but thats the one I remember. It started in the streets and gang banging and spread into the streets to civilians 💯 from both sides. It's been bad blood ever since.

I'll be honest not to offend you but I see this all the time I'm from Cali and mexican I worked in a ton of warehouse jobs all over Southern cal and well the honest truth is that mexicans are harder workers they don't miss days they don't argue with their bosses much and they will work extra for same pay. I used to work with some blacks and they would either slack off get mad at there bosses and or not come in much . At the end of the day it's reputation mexicans will do more for less or same pay and unfortunately most blacks won't. Those are facts bruh. Let keep it real . Now I'm sure there's blacks that are harder workers than mexicans but that's not common. And yes gangs in the past also contributed it bloods crips and mexican gangs were the biggest issues against each other in late 80s to 90s I grew up in Compton California so I saw it all . This is why if you go to any homeless area you don't see any homeless mexicans is because we will work 3 jobs to provide for our family we work hard like I said that's not all mexicans but most so there for we have a 100 percent durability in the work field so white America uses us for cheap labor. .we do the grunt work no matter what it is ..just speaking facts and what I seen growing up in los angeles California I can't speak for the country .

My story is the opposite of yours. I grew up in LA. In early 90s General Motors closed their plant in LA. My father was transferred to Shreveport Louisiana. I lived out there 1 year when I was in High school. For a Mexican like me it was a shock for me. All Black and White people and no Latinos. Every one looked at me and my family like we were aliens. In the mall both White and Black people would just stare at us in confusion. In school I got along more with black people than white people. We should get along more are struggles are the same.

@@MontarioMontariothis the exact thing I was gonna say, you have to remember that "California" is not small like most southern or east coast states. Cali is the size of like 20 states, so each region has completely different politics and culture. In Northern California where I grew up like Oakland, Richmond, Hayward, San Jose, Vallejo; Black and Hispanics all get along, we all grow up in the same neighborhoods out there. I'm Mexican and my wife is black, so is my brother's wife and all of our kids, that's a common thing in the Bay Area, but southern Cali has more of a history of being divided
