The state of Guerrero (which means "warrior") is one of the poorest in Mexico and the site of some of the worst violence in the battle between the drug cartels and Mexican authorities. As a result of the violence, hundreds of civillians have armed themselves with machetes, rifles, and shotguns, put masks on, and decided to police their own communities as vigilantes, effectively taking justice into their own hands.

Here, here. If we had that kind of courage back in the states we wouldn't have to worry about drugs or gang violence again. We citizens outnumber the gangs over a thousand to one, we just need to get organized like these fine folks did.

My country is the way it is because there is no Serve and Protect . Police want my people to get kidnapped, extorted, robbed, killed. Pueblanos are the ones that suffer because if they stand up for they community by picking up arms, they get labeled criminals and the authorities take there only means of self defence away. Its sad because police/feds work with the cartels side by side

Why are these guys considered vigilantes? These guys are true patriots.
@zhengyangwang214
@zhengyangwang214 5 жыл бұрын
vigilante /ˌvɪdʒɪˈlanti/Submit noun plural noun: vigilantes a member of a self-appointed group of citizens who undertake law enforcement in their community without legal authority, typically because the legal agencies are thought to be inadequate. Vigilantism doesn't necessarily mean these people are bad, its just that they take law into their own hands, exercising judicial powers with no accountability. In communities that are safe and stable with functioning institutions, its considered bad because you can kill someone without proving his guilt and call it justice, that's why its usually a mainstream bad term for people. However in cases like this, where there are little to no policing to control the drug cartels, people who take up arms to defend themselves from these gangsters are still technically vigilantes but like the definition states, they were forced to due to the rampant violence brought by the cartels into their communities.

And it's someone powerful who benefits from death or crime and imprisonment. It could be the CIA or the FBI. Remember fast and furious? Obama should've been impeached for that. I don't like Trump but that don't mean that I disagree with him. At least on this matter.

@Fruitsmistress
@Fruitsmistress 9 жыл бұрын
Fonzi Caston Yeah, I dunno why that is... I grew up in a eastern european country that used to be part of the soviet union. Because until twenty years ago all immigration was controlled by SU and after that the recovering country was too poor and too cold to attract many newcomers, there is virtually no other races living here. I would guess 99% of the population is white, I think the first time I saw an asian person was in my early teens and a black person in my late teens.As such, racism is never discussed in families, in schools - there is just no need for it. Therefore, everyone I know developed their own ideas about the problem without ever actually dicussing it, seeing it or experiencing it. And as we got old enough to travel around, as the country developed to the point where at least exchange students, if not permanent residents, of all races could be seen, as we got old enough to discuss social problems that were present in other parts of the world, I was very surprised how different the views of people raised in the same enviorment, even raised in the same families, could be. I know this guy who hates practically everyone. He hates religion of all forms, he hates gays, he... well, likes women, but thinks they are less than men, and he hates all other races, especially black people. At least he knows about religion, maybe even has met a gay or two, but he has never met a black guy. I asked him has he ever spoken to one, he was like: "Nah, I don't need to speak to them to know they are..." (It was a long speech. A long time ago too, haven't seen him in seven years now, so don't remember exactly, but you can imagine). And he isn't even really dumb, he's educated and works as a teacher. Teacher!?! My point is, it doesn't really depend on a persons experience. The strongest type of hate is the groundless one, passed on by someone, taken in as fact before you learned to doubt what you know. The best thing anyone can do is try their best to not pass on the hate that they don't even know where it came from. And well, assholes will always exist, the kind who think less of everyone else to think more of themselves. But if we outnumber them one day, they will be forced to shut up. So keep up the hope, mate.

This wouldn't work in the US. These people grew up with a more socialist government, more socialist communities (see Zapatistas, Mexican support for the government during the cultural revolution). The culture of majority of America wouldn't support that, and problems have never been as widespread and as great in magnitude as the issues that plague regions where these police groups have propagated. Our police and state/federal level security networks are powerful enough to keep the vast majority of people alive and well, so there isn't nearly the motivation among the people for community police - it just isn't necessary. Although I agree with you, there's plenty to learn from the documentaray, I disagree with your (inferring here, maybe you did mean it literally) point that Americans should take up arms to protect their communities. We have professional police forces fully capable of doing so, most of the time.

This is EXACTLY why we have a 2nd Amendment in the USA. If we ever have to do this, we will. I feel it will be happening soon. Hats off to these vigilantes. Job well done. Your only mistake is turning over the criminals. You should've hanged them on the spot for the other criminals to see. Murderers, kidnappers, and rapists only have rights to two things: a short drop and a sudden stop.

mechmusician I agree with you, it'd definitely win the support of (most) the people, but that isn't always the case with governments. You know how our government is here in the U.S., all hell breaks lose if you kill a violent gangster and what not, the death penalty, etc. Very liberal people here who say things like "Oh, if you kill, you're no better than the killer!" and other stupid statements of the sort. /:
@mechmusician
@mechmusician 9 жыл бұрын
That is VERY true. Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Freddie Gray, all worthless, violent thugs. Yet a riot goes down for all of them. But yet there's no actions when police officers get murdered... It's sick. But I don't think such a situation can survive indefinitely. Eventually the people get fed up with and stand up for themselves, like these fine Mexican vigilantes. Or there's just a change in the political landscape, like we will have very soon. Obama and the liberals are doomed for the next 12 years at least. Hillary, Biden, and Sanders stand no chance whatsoever. Reid and Pelosi have become pariahs. Every single state run by liberals is going straight down the shitter while ever state run by conservatives is improving or thriving. People can see that quite clearly. There's mass exoduses going on from liberal states to conservative states. Depopulation is crippling New England and the West Coast, namely New York and California. You're going to see a very drastic rightward shift next year. Hopefully, they'll bring back the gallows and chain gangs.
@JM23007
@JM23007 9 жыл бұрын
mechmusician Yeah, I really hope this place becomes more conservative again. Don't get me wrong, a lot of normal, assimilated Mexicans who've actually come over and adapted to the U.S. hate those ones that you mentioned too, because they give all Mexicans a bad image. I just wish there was some kind of way for all the good people who want to serve this nation and protect it to get in through military service, but unfortunately, that's impossible for them without having a permanent residency or citizenship, and that's strongly controversial at the moment in congress, and all the other idiot welfare moochers aren't helping the image of all the good Mexican immigrants there are. Plus, it'd help the U.S. out a lot with their military, and would give the decent ones a chance to come in legally. It'd prove who truly loves the place enough to fight for it. Do what you want with all the ones who only do harm to the place. We don't like them either, to be honest. haha.
@mechmusician

I believe the USMC has a very strong Mexican representation for that exact reason.... plus, to be honest, where we're fighting right now Mexicans are better suited to the job. It's HOT in the Middle East! White people don't do well in the heat... You're lucky. You're used to that kind of climate. I sure as Hell am not. But yeah, I'd give instant citizenship to those that serve. We should create a foreign legion for that reason.

It's really sad that so many people in Mexico are having to deal with police that are just as bad as the narcos if not worse in some situations. The issue comes from the top-down. People need to start protesting and put pressure on the government to keep the local police in check (not just sending the army since the local police are owned by the narcos). Mexico will always feel on edge until the corruption and collusion with the narcos is wiped out. Maybe if there was a policy in place that made it mandatory for all police to wear bodycams? I'm just an outsider since I'm not from Mexico so my opinion doesn't really matter. But I feel the widespread police corruption is the main issue keeping Mexico from progressing and becoming the country it could be. If travelers could trust the police, tourism would boom. Even though I live in Texas and only 8 hours from Mexico, I only take flights when I visit. I'd prefer to drive, but driving through a border town with U.S. / Canadian plates - the police will single you out. The country is beautiful and hopefully becomes more tourist friendly in the future. It's sad because my father grew up in Laredo (Texas side of Mexico border) and Nuevo Laredo was so safe he'd cross into Mexico for lunch. Not worth the risk now.

They have infiltrated every level of the state with bribery, blackmail, and death threats. How many vigilantes in America do you see roving around with weapons in an attempt to defend their own? Our gangs may get their product from the Cartel but that doesn't mean we have Cartel running up and down the street cutting off peoples heads like in Mexico.

I remember very well at the time I followed this movement a lot through Vice documentaries, but it's sad because the majority of these self-defense groups ended up becoming their own kind of mini cartels, actually.

videogamebomer They did, but because Mexicans citizens know about how law enforcement is so scarce in that part of of the state, they protested and made the army give them their weapons back, train and incorporate them into the rural police.

***** as a farmer in Mexico you can carry a 22 rifle only within your property but you need an Army special permit. As a civilian you only can own a .380 acp or .38 special handgun for home defense, you are not allowed to carry a gun. You CANT also use your gun for self defense, you will be charged with murder, 7-20 years behind bars... you can (with an army special permit) also own guns for hunting or sport (bolt actions or shotguns), but, getting a weapons permit in Mexico is really difficult, alot of paperwork...
