Fun fact: to this day, this is the *only* time *any* two nations from the same confederation outside of Europe and South America have *ever* faced each other in a World Cup match! No two teams from Asia, Africa, or Oceana have *ever* faced each other in a World Cup (and no, Australia vs Japan in 2006 does not count, because Australia was still in the Oceana region at that point and hadn't joined the Asian confederation yet)! This was also the *very* first time *ever* that a knockout round matchup was played in which *neither* team was from either Europe or South America! Es la derrota más dolorosa de México en los mundiales ...junto con la de Argentina en 2006 ..Aguirre tuvo decisiones muy malas ese dia, saco a Morales en pleno primer tiempo, ingreso a Hernández cuando ya estaba en pleno declive su carrera en ese caso debio meter a Palencia que venia en buen momento, ingreso a Garcia Aspe nomas para que jugara en el mundial...pero todo paso también porque entraron a la cancha muy confiados debieron jugar como vs Italia y otra cosa hubiera sido...que impotencia este encuentro en la madrugada ante la mejor selección de estados unidos en mundiales.

A mi consideración el partido más importante entre estas dos selecciones, se jugaban el todo por el todo. Pero creo que la selección mexicana salió al campo con un exceso de confianza y jamás pensó estar abajo en el marcador desde el minuto 8. Y no se pudieron reponer anímicamente. Estados Unidos ganó merecidamente.

Pues ni tan merecidamente, si bien este partido quedó para el olvido por lo que el equipo mexicano dejo de hacer o mas bien nunca propuso, el no marcar el penal de una mano en el area apenas iniciando el segundo tiempo minó aun más anímicamente a la selección, de anotarlo tal vez hubiera cambiado el curso de un partido irreconocible por tantas fallas

Así es, fue una mano clarísima. Se que el hubiera no existe pero definitivamente fue una jugada que influyó directamente en el marcador y le dio rumbo al partido. Yo recuerdo muy bien ese partido, ese fue el día en el que USA aprendió como jugarle y ganarle a México sin necesidad de arriesgar, de ahí en adelante empezaron una partenidad que duró un buen rato. México tuvo la posesión de la pelota todo el partido y además tuvo más llegadas que USA, Brad Friedel tuvo un partidazo sacando todas las que las pelotas que le llegaron. USA solo tuvo dos llegadas claras y las dos las metió, fueron ordenados y prácticos. La verdad el empate no se veía tan lejano ni tan preocupante que empezaran perdiendo, pero los cambio estúpidos de Aguirre le dieron al traste a cualquier posibilidad de empatar. Recuerdo muy bien que no podía creer cuando sacó a Ramón Morales y metió a Luis Hernández, Ramoncito estaba siendo el jugador más peligroso de México y manteniendo ocupada la banda izquierda de USA, ya el colmo fue cuando se le ocurrió meter al otro muerto viviente de García Aspe en el segundo tiempo, simplemente entregó el partido de una manera increíble y lo peor hizo las mismas chingaderas en Sudáfrica 2010.
