Dumb comments from Meredith Crowley. The Mexican government reduced undocumented immigrants by 75% in 2023-4, so there is no excuse. 70% of arms enter from the US illegally into Mexico causing thousands of deaths annually. Drug addiction is not significant in Mexico, while it is in the USA, where they have not been able to deal with it as a public health issue. The US has the highest per capita number of prisoners in the world - more than half are minorities.

If somebody is attacking you with a clenched fist.. you are not "threatening" retaliation. What Mexico is is saying is " Please don't attack me or I'll be forced to defend myself in the same matter". Even more so what they are saying is " Hey dudes.. let's not even fight in the first place - because we know beforehand that nobody will win". To quote an old movie " The only winning move is not to play." Seems quite reasonable.

Mexican politicians already weathered 4 years of Trump before. 4 more years will go by quickly and the next administration would likely be more cooperative with the country. The best bet is to weather the storm until he leaves office and then bring business back up afterwards. Mexico and the US are very interlinked. Canada as been complacent in getting its broken immigration act together, with people dying in winter trying to get across, and manufacturing fentanyl, etc. The economic and social cost of this from both north and south is far larger than that of any negative effects on the US from tariffs. You cannot have free trade while the other countries cant get their act together, if they are still belligerent, I can see Trump announcing a ban on products entering the US, similar to what Canada did to dairy products, amounting to inflated prices for Canadians.

Why would you ask those questions from someone who doesn't even live in the same continent? Additionally, she might teach economics for whatever valid reason Cambridge might have had to let her teach, but she has no idea of what is really going on. As I said before, she is overseas, obviously whatever comes out from her mouth is not to be trusted. On the other hand, why would Mexico really worry about these tariffs? Does this Professor from Cambridge know about the Virtual Exports/Imports? or do all of you really believe that ALL the imported/exported products cross the border physically? If the answer to this last question is YES, then you got no idea of anything about the international trade between these 2 countries.

why DW is asking professor from UK? why not from Germany?
@caseyalanjonesАй бұрын
It's DW's English-language channel. Dr. Crowley, your professor "from UK" [sic] is an expert in economics who is actually from the US, previously worked as a researcher at the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago, and is obviously a native English speaker. Since she now lives in the UK, the time zones probably make a live interview easier than with someone actually in the US. I can't see how speaking to someone from Germany would be in any way inherently better, so I don't understand what your complaint is about.

@@caseyalanjones do u want to say me that there is no expert in Germany? or owners of DW in UK?
@eliotness4029Ай бұрын
@@caseyalanjones Germany is economical leader in Europe, not UK, why to ask UK expert, they are actually so called experts
@caseyalanjonesАй бұрын
@@eliotness4029 Of course that's not what I'm not saying. DW interviews people from around the world, including from Germany, the UK, and everywhere else. But in this case the story is about US-Mexico economic relations, so I don't get why you seem so dissatisfied to hear from a US economic expert about US economic relations... The host Anja Kueppers-McKinnon is not German either, but who cares? You could try DW Deutsch if you want more German perspectives, but they don't have any complete ban on talking to foreigners either. If you only ever want to hear the opinions of Germans, then it's probably best to just turn off the internet.

The issue is that Trump is not necessarily backed up by corporate interests so much as he's backed up by oligarchs. He will impose sanctions, the repercussions are not a problem so long as his agenda is fulfilled.

They forgot to mention that these tariffs do not align with the renegotiated agreement he led in 2018 🤭. The analyst seems a bit misinformed about the policies allowing a certain percentage of parts to be sourced from outside North America. Trump aims to reduce the trade deficit and bring jobs back to the U.S., but in doing so, Americans are likely to face higher inflation rates, making it increasingly difficult for people in Mexico, the U.S., and Canada.

Drug problem should be seeing from its roots and work to cut consumption , that will cut suppliers and dsitribitors. The economic relationship of both US and Mexico shoyld benefits both nations, otherwise would affect people on both sides, and North America may loose being the leader in the world.
