I have been to San Cristóbal twice and absolutely love it! It is definitely at the top of my list. I do speak Spanish so I think I could manage there. I also love the countryside around the city for recreation. The indigenous influence is very important to me-I love the culture and arts. Just have to get my husband to visit!

Love, love Sancris…I’ve been there 6-7 times and have felt that I could easily live there- the challenge is that I want to swim every day. Thanks Mariana, I totally agree with your sentiments here!💖 The wildness and indigenous energy really elevates Chiapas…such an amazing place!

I agree with not paying more than what the locals pay. Paying more will only make the prices go up snd it is rhe locals that will suffer.

Thanks so much for this wonderfully produced video. This is definitely a place we need to check out as the Lake Chapala area has turned out to be a bit warmer than what we'd ultimately like to find. Plus, the bohemian culture seems right up our alley. We are excited to plan a trip in the future.

The indigenous languages are not “dialects” but rather distinct languages. The common differentiation in Mexico between indigenous “dialects” and European “languages” is a pretty deeply ingrained way that the indigenous is devalued and the European is placed in a superior location. If anything, Mexican Spanish is a dialect in the larger Spanish language world.

I spent about a month in barrio Mexicanos. I loved the food, markets, and interesting cultural activities. However it was the noisiest Mexicanos city I have stayed in. The local spiritual practices are constantly being celebrated with parades and coñetes ( spelling) at 5 am or in the night. I was also pretty cold at night! I arrived there from Guatemala, a long and arduous journey overland. :)

I'm preparing to visit San Cristobal de las Casas in mid-January 2024. I may stay long term. I'd go sooner but I'm still waiting for my passport. Also, I figured I'd wait until the holidays are over. Very helpful video, thanks! I've subscribed as I'm sure I'll find plenty of information here. If/when I decide to seek residency in Mexico, I'll turn to you guys for assistance.

Hi Mariana, I hope you are doing well! I am searching for a town/city that has a moderate cool climate and or a beach town where the cost of living and real estate are still affordable. Other than San Cristobal and the obvious expat destinations, do you have any other suggestions? What are your thoughts on Cuernavaca? Thanks! David

¡Me encanta San Cris! Sin duda es una de mis ciudades favoritas del mundo :) Definitely among the top 2 or 3 towns in which I'd like to spend more than the few weeks I have. Best coffee in town: Café la Selva! My favorite hostel with super low prices and a rooftop terrace with views of the city hosted by really friendly and warm Adolfo: "Fuego Nuevo", located at Periodista Isauro Rosete 18A, Barrio la Merced. Muchas gracias Marina por un video maravilloso!

San Cris looks amazing in your video. Other people’s vids highlight poverty and corruption. This looks to be an amazing place but I have concerns.
@MexicoRelocationGuide Жыл бұрын
There certainly is poverty in Chiapas. No doubt about that. Having said that San Cris is still an amazing place in my opinion and you won't know how special it truly is until you visit.

Perhaps the sierra in Chiapas or Oaxaca- there are a lot of small towns in the hills where you could buy land.

You left out the water quality. I read from other sources that the tap water was horribly contaminated and it actually killed someone while making others horribly sick. 😢 unless that's just all of Mexico as a whole.
@MexicoRelocationGuide11 ай бұрын
water contamination is prevalent throughout Mexico because water isn’t chlorinated as it is in other countries- that’s why people buy jugs of potable water for drinking and cooking
@brucegelman5582 Жыл бұрын

San Cristobal de Las Casas is. However, there is some turmoil in the state of Chiapas outside of San Cris currently. So I would say as long as you stay in San Cris, Chiapa de Corzo, or Tuxtla you'll be fine
