Some things worth pointing out: - The sparks in their eyes doesn't come back after the hypnosis scene except for Miku for a small frame before fully succumbing to it - After the hypnosis scene, Miku and Teto are in front of a green screen, which to me is more like they're just acting and they're on a set, based on their expressions they're shocked about something or is just how they look in that small moment where Miku doesnt know she was hypnotized and Teto is terrified of what's happening (theory) - At the very end you can see Teto's eyes going fully dark as she finally succumbs to the hypnosis - Considering there's a small segment in english, I believe Teto's hand being in ASL instead of JSL is to further confuse/make the Japanese audience unaware of the calls for help (considering a Japanese audience is gonna watch these videos first/the video was probably thought with them more in mind or as an easter egg for an international audience)

You should also point out Udin, the person who made this theory, says "for some reason, the sound is muffled for Teto" is probably cause Teto isn't succumbing to the hypnosis. When she's about to, the sound gets louder. Even before that, Udin says the song "sounds mesmerizing & looks hypnotizing," meaning its looks cute but is actually dark. So since Teto wasn't succumbing to the pretty sounds & all, she muted the mesmerizing song that would make her like Miku. And they probably did ASL instead of JSL because the people who made Vocaloid are Japanese I think so, Teto is making sure they don't know. Implying that perhaps the Vocaloid creators are hypnotizing them hence the green screen.

In the OG video, someone commented that miku probably hung herself to escape from reality which is why teto was so shocked, like she saw a dead body. Eyes going black means Dilated pupils. Neck popping is like the neck being seperated. And tongue out is usually in cartoons to show a character has died. So I think teto saw miku hanging herself and was like "Nah, I'd go into denial" and that's why her eyes turned black right at the end.

Idk if it's intentional or just because it's more popular rn but I like how they chose specifically a Vocaloid and Teto's SynthV AI vb instead of her UTAU one. I think it mirrors how they face reality, Miku decides to ignore what's around her so she doesn't strain while singing, however Teto doesn't, so she strains and struggles more than Miku while singing the chorus. They could've easily chosen Teto's UTAU vb since it's literally free and can handle vocaloid-high notes more easily, but they didn't.

This is a very shaky theory, but I checked the Wikipedia page and it states that the enzyme Phosphoribosylaminoimidazolesuccinocarboxamide is needed for purine biosynthesis which is vital for DNA synthesis. And I thought, the DNA synthesis part perhaps is a metaphor for the hypnosis, as in the person hypnotised will be changed entirely, from the very foundation of themselves. Take this with a grain of salt because I’m just blabbering lol also interestingly enough, purine biosynthesis might be used in the future to develop chemotherapeutic drugs. One final note, in the instrumental you can hear some gurgling noises, and it sounds like drinking something fast. Or it sort of sounds like a muffled “Go Go Go” so maybe whoever’s hypnotising and directing this whole thing is giving them instructions. Especially with the green screen part that suggests they’re acting/being filmed.

So I looked more into this molecule, which is abbreviated SAICAR. It's a normal part of brain function. But when the enzyme that's supposed to use it stops working, it builds up in the brain and starts turning into the similar compound SAICAriboside. Your interpretation of the enzyme makes much more sense. This lead me down a rabbit hole and apparently SAICAr is also involved in cancer cell proliferation, even in glucose-limited conditions, which in turn are caused by malnutrition and eating disorders. as someone studying biochemistry: phosphoribosylaminoimidazolesuccinocarboxamide (SAICAR for short) (*not* the enzyme that helps create it) is an intermediate compound in synthesising nucleotides (information carrying units in DNA) specifically purine nucleotides (adenine and guanine) which differ from other nucleotides as they have 2 carbon rings instead of 1 and they break down into uric acid from what i can think about (i'm a science student my media literacy is in the dumps forgive me) i think this is honestly pretty relevant, thoughts below in hopefully simple terms 1. SAICAR is one of the last stages before the degradation cycle starts, so not much effort is needed to transform it into guanine or adenine, but that also makes it closer to breaking down entirely 2. purines are found in every domain of life and *literally everything* with genetic material, alive (animals, plants, bacteria etc) or not alive (viruses). you could say similar for pyrimidines but thymine is not found in specifically rna viruses on that, it could show that being hypnotised makes you barely alive and anything but human, since the compound SAICAR transforms into is found everywhere genetic information is carried unlike other choices of random organic molecules 3. SAICAR as a compound itself has also shown to aid in cancer cell proliferation in low glucose environments as most cancer cells can't salvage nucleotides like healthy cells and have to rely on de novo synthesis (where SAICAR comes in) so take that as you will hope this was helpful to you all, may the more theoretical people take over with this new knowledge + feel free to ask questions

Something i noticed was the colors of both characters, teto being mainly made out of red and yellows with just a little blue, with miku being the opposite having lots of blue, yet having very little red and yellow, red usually being used for "STOP, WARNING", with yellow also being applied in that same manner, blue meaning, "Contentment, Sadness.", Miku is content in the reality that was given or created for her to avoid her emotions without realizing the dangers of said reality, Teto being opposite, she is on her feet, understanding the dangers of the reality she and miku were given, however that blue in her outfit could mean that despite her objections and attempts to escape, she is slowly but surely becoming content with her reality. If you think about it for more than two seconds, the song is and will remain culturally relevant for generations to come. I believe the song represents not only the conflict between blissful ignorance and accepting the bitter truth, but also highlights a conflict between generations. My generation is one defined by nihilism, of acknowledging the cruel reality - Teto. We know the world is screwed, that there are things going on in places we don’t see that decide the course of our futures without our own will or input, and that society as a whole is heading down a course I’ve seen described as “The lamest dystopia ever.” We all exist, working, surviving and like Teto, giving off feeble cries for help; but we never live. Not like how generations before us could afford to. How many young people are trapped working bare minimum wage to pay off exorbitant loans? To put food on the table? To have a roof to sleep under? We all secretly cry out for help, like Teto in the MV. While in the very beginning, she appears to attempt to offer a contrary to Miku’s perspective, calling it the “Ultimate solution,” she backtracks almost immediately and suggests that turning to escapism is probably the only real solution to the problem. I believe this mirrors a lot of young adult’s perspectives when it comes to the problems we face in our society. We can initially go, “Oh, it’s not that bad! There surely is a solution!” But once we think about it more, we start to realize that maybe there isn’t exactly a solution after all, and that the self-preserving nihilism that Miku’s perspective seems to embody is the only real one. Yet, at this point, it is just a suggestion, both for us and Teto. As we go further into the song, we see Teto attempting further to cry out for help, just as we do. We don’t have an answer for the troubles we face in society; there is no ultimate solution. We can just ask for help, but there’s no guarantee of receiving it. At one point, Miku becomes hypnotized into escapism fairly shortly, while Teto resists and resists the pull towards it. This is a symbolism of the individual vs. the surroundings. We see our peers turn their eyes away from reality and slip into that blissful ignorance of escapism, and we feel that temptation to follow; but we resist nonetheless. We don’t know why - perhaps it’s that lingering, unsettling unease behind the very concept of forgoing reality for a sweet dream. We continue to struggle, to ask for help. But we don’t give in. At least, not yet. Eventually, we come to the conclusion: We are, as Miku and Teto put it, “Tailor-made for this generation.” I’ll come back to this line later. We are fashioned to work by the systems that govern us, by the hands in the shadows that play with us as their pawns. To work, to struggle, so that the top becomes increasingly out of reach for us, while we get swallowed by the bottom. Miku breaks at this point - prior to the final parts of the song, she “Shuts down.” Our vulnerabilities become monetized on TV. They give us medicine, but refuse to give us the cure. We become hooked on the drug of escapism, a lie with the appearance of vulnerability - yet still makes our hearts beat arrhythmically. Miku accepts the lie, as do many of us. After all, what’s the point of facing reality if it just hurts? Why face the cold truth and depress oneself, when you can escape into a dream and be happy? What’s the point of resisting? Teto eventually falls into this hole as well. No one is immune. No one is safe. We all dance violently to an invisible song, thinking we’re unbound; but even this “free will” is manufactured. And the way it’s going, I doubt it’ll ever become natural again. Look at gen alpha. They are addicted to the internet before they’ve even hit the double digits. They, like Miku, fall for the escapism quickly and assuredly. Without resistance. Without thought. Because it’s easy, it’s accessible, and they don’t know - they’ve never known - the alternative. When we think about ‘generation,’ what comes to mind immediately isn’t just the generation of people; but also generations of technology. The new generation of iphone, the next generation samsung, the new this, the new that. It can be argued that the song, in a way, addresses gen alpha (The “You” in “You are tailor-made for this generation,”) and claims that they are tailor made for the next product. They were tailor made to consume. As such, they become addicted, hypnotized, mesmerized. Gen Z is afflicted by nihilism because we know that things could be better; they just aren’t. We resist because we know that this is wrong, and that this shouldn’t be how life is. But gen alpha doesn’t know that. They become mesmerized by short-form content, overstimulation, everything; and as such, even their short-term memory lessens to be worse than a fish’s. Miku and Teto symbolize these conflicting generations. Teto is an older generation, struggling, resisting until we cannot resist anymore. Miku is the new generation. The song isn’t just a cry to the individual, but a cry to society at large. Because the way things are going, one day, we won’t be able to cry. We will accept this lie and fall into escapism - we won’t even look at reality in moderation anymore. Our eyes will glaze over from flashing lights and upbeat music, and we will become mesmerized, until we are unable to cry for help.

This is a great comment, really good analysis of the song. I hadn't made the connection that Teto and Miku are the older and newer generation respectively. I wanna give my own interpretation on the look at reality in moderation line, the way Teto ends up being hypnotized is because she didn't look at reality in moderation, lots of people have fictional characters, online personalities or personal beliefs they keep to cope with reality, while Miku gave out right away because she actively sought out the escapism, Yeti resisted so much that she tired herself out and went blind from too much reality. Part of the message of the song be it intentional or not is that escapism is a resource used by humans since we became civilization, it's okay to believe in a few lies in the same way you should always reality check yourself every once in a while, too much of either and you end up deluded by your own thoughts, so far I've believed that the way to survive the modern era Is to stay on social media for the human contact and for participating in society and staying informed but also not letting yourself go too much into it, I disagree with the nihilistic perspective on a personal level because everything is gone only if you completely disregard looking at reality and escapism in moderation. I have an even darker theory to why that happened. As we see miku beeing crazy, it's not that she went insane, it was more because she killed herself since her movements were less human and off beat, as if she was being controlled like a puppet. Also, her neck when seemed crazy was way thinner, as if she hung herself. Also, her black pupils and tongue sticking out are common ways to show cartoon characters being dead. Here's my take -The thumbnail for the song spells S O S (Miku and Teto posing like S while the star shape in the middle is O) -Miku has a white strip band and Teto doesn't (indicating that Miku is controlled? Also she poses like puppet in the last chorus) -At the start of the song, there's a split second word that says "HYPNOTISE" in kanji. -Miku and Teto wears normal shoes at the start of the video. In the chorus, Miku is shown to be wearing roller skates (likely to trip) and Teto doesnt change shoe. -Teto almost trips meaning she is almost hypnotized. (My theory for Teto slmost tripping is that since Miku wears roller skates, Teto is trying to save her but almost fell into the hypnotism) -Teto is constantly asking for help -When the hypnotize scene begins, Miku is swaying with the background. I myself thought about how it coud be commenting on the current state of the creative field, since there are several tactics used by, for example, reddit story tiktok accs (several interruptions during the video (the comic style switching into them swaying side by side, the test, the hypnosis segment, closeup where Miku gets "switched") lots of flashing and bright colors, constant bouncing and movement, the divide of the screen) in the mv. The greenscreen after hypnosis suggests they are in fact filming, and I remember someone pointing out that Miku and Teto are dressed like fastfood workers (waitress and manager respectively), and if I were to continue that train of thought, Teto may be more experienced, while Miku is a rookie or somebody still not fully aware of how things work in the industry. Therefore Miku gets hypnotised by what I assume is someone behind the camera (probably a higher-up) faily easy since she had no idea that what's happening could be bad/wrong, and Teto resists because she already knows better or she may know that is not supposed to be happening (in the greenscreen Miku is looking in innocent confusion at the camera, and Teto's expression is saying "hey that was not in the script, what are you doing"). They also start the video with stars in their eyes, but they stop appearing after the hypnosis. As a hypnotist, I'll give my two cents: Hypnosis is not viewed the same way in japan as it is in the west. I think cause japan's society is a lot about conformity, it's seen very differently as almost just a natural thing to listen to societal pressures. There's the phrase "The nail that sticks out gets hammered down" I imagine what the song is alluding to. I'm an american so clearly it's not accurate but societal view of hypnosis is pretty different depending on the country.

the red/blue pill comparison is really good! I honestly forgot about that. I really enjoy the animation in the music video, the entire thing is giving me digital horror vibes, especially the quiz scene that reminds me a ton of early flash games with screamers at the end. Finally, I don't think that Teto "can't hear" the music and avoids being mezmerized. She gives me more of the vibe that she's type of person that "knows too much to be happy". When we talk about cults for example, there's a resistance we all have to indrocination. When that resistance is worn away though, you're more likely to lose yourself into said cult. Generally, knowing more about the world and socializing with more people will help with increasing your resistance, but it comes with the pain and weight of reality becoming too much. Teto is calling for help, but she also knows it's in vain as help is not coming. Her only connection left is to someone (Miku) who's already given into being mezmerized to a non-existent world. The way I ended up taking it was: big cooperations (on the internet) vs us. If you have a good eye, you would realize that Miku is actually dancing on the offbeat by the final chorus due to a subtle shift in pose delay.

I always interpreted Teto's eyes going black and her smile not as her giving into the hypnosis, but rather wearing that false facade everyone wears when they have to face reality. Also known as: Fake it till you make it. Look closely. Her face doesn't go slack like Miku's when shes hypnotized. Her smile is controlled. She doesn't have those flashing eyes, none of it. She's not hypnotized, but she HAS given into something, and that's the motto she's representing: Reality. While Miku gave in completely to blissful ignorance, by allowing herself to be hypnotized and giving up all semblance of control over herself, Teto swung too far in the opposite direction. Initially, she was holding out hope for someone to save her, which is why she shows all those signals, but at the end of the song, she does what most of us do when we try to live but find it so difficult. We shut down. We give up and just trudge through the days in abject misery. Instead of relying on false happiness and fake beliefs, we pretend that reality is better and wear a smile, even when it's not and we're just deluding ourselves. That's what Teto does at the end. She doesn't believe she can be saved anymore, but she won't give into the hypnosis, so she just smiles and continues to play along, pretending everything's fine, sucking up to her horrible situation because that's the only thing she can do.
