Dragons breathing a flammable liquid(or gas) isn't something new. It is literally the only way for them to produce flames scientifically, by going down a similar route to the bombardier beetle. Heck, both the HTTYD movies and the original HTTYD books explained how dragons could produce flames(or other such projectiles). Plus that's only 1 dragon simulation from what I can see.

About 5 years before the first HTTYD book was written, a psx game called Deathtrap Dungeon had a medieval style flamethrower that had a little flaming torch at the mouth of the gvn's barrel and its ammo was barrels of "dragon bile".
