Saw the MF Robots this afternoon at the De La Warr pavilion in Bexhill. Best band of the days offerings by a country mile. Didn't even know of their existence previously but was blown away. Great tech setup through a Martin system with flying mids either side of stage and a phalanx of bass drivers under the stage front all mixed to perfection. A truly stunning sound which made the deft construction of their pin sharp grooves enhanced even further by the sheer joy of their delivery. After the last 18 months of what has been for all of us like life in a strange domestic penal colony this was the Robots break out gig and they bought that joy to the stage in spades. Perhaps it was my wife and I's personal catharsis but as the bodies around us,(socially distanced of course), started to move the impetus was irresistible.I have only had a similar experience watching James Brown at the Lone Star club in New York back in 85'. His band were rock tight and he unexpectedly hugely entertaining but make no mistake, the Robots-these little titans of infectious rhythm were ahead of themselves to perfection. The lead singer Dawn Joseph was just sublime. If you want to time travel back to the boiling pot of of the early /mid 70's with a forward looking twist then you may well be in for a treat. One last thing, if you get to see them live just remember to pack your dancing shoes! Thank you to the band for giving us both the spark we needed. The future is robotic but uniquely human.

Whatever were the causes of the break with BNH, the new band has a fresh sound. Slightly reminiscent of BNH but different. I guess after 30 years the drummer needed to make a change.
@bayluNO7 жыл бұрын
This sounds better than most songs from the last Brand New Heavies album. If you are gonna deliver like that on your new album, I will definitely be rooting more for you - I feel like the other BNH members are resting themselves on the legacy while you guys try out something new here. :)

The trouble with all this new retro funk is.....Theres no real Percussion ..Its all don digitally ..Thats why they can never recreate the true funk of the 70s/80s not even Bruno Mars ..My services are available as a real percussionist if you need them :)
