WOW YOU GUYS ARE NO JOKE I WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT TO A HYDAULIC PLACE I WOULD NOT MESS WITH IT EVEN WITH THE PROPER SPANNER WRENCH

I figured we had nothing to lose. Rebuild kits at the dealer were priced over $100 per cylinder just for the seals. If we couldn't fix them with standard seals they were going to be retrofitted for new universal tie rod cylinders. Thanks for watching! 👍😁

If you need one seal, you need them all. Age is probably yhe culprit and if that's the case then the others are close behind. Next time will be easir as all the breakdown procedure will be fresh in your mind. There are several other in the gland and if it starts leaking, thats where its coming from. You were sooo close. Next time. Congratulations on fixing the imediate problem though. Sometimes that's all it takes for who knows how long. Good job on what you did.

Thanks, I don't disagree.....I wanted a whole seal kit, but couldn't find one available at a reasonable price. I took a stab in the dark sourcing my own piston seals for $6 or $8. They wanted $180 per kit at the tractor dealer 🙄.....So far she's still working good! Thanks for watching 👍😬

@@FlatThunder I get it. It's my opinion that a seal that is designed for the purpose intended doesn't have to be the exact same profile as long as it fits the groove . Also, I think that not all rings are of the same importance. IE, a wear ring might have a lot of life left in it as opposed to a gland seal ring. The seal ring is of course the much more important ring. A good catalog is extremely helpfull. Hercules has an excellent one. It's free. Good on you for fixing your own. It says a lot about your character.

@@edstimator1 I'll have to check out Hercules catalog. I have Martin Fluid Power's catalog. They are good, but don't always describe all the seal dimensions. 👍😁

I have the same tractor and love watching your videos to learn how to both fail and figure out resolutions to tool issues, but your editing needs work. Too long of a video, edit dead footage. Your very skilled and ingenious in your work - the way we need to be. Thanks for making the video.

It is a pretty stout tractor! I can't disagree sometimes I include too much extra footage. My biggest problem is not having a planned out film or process. I usually attack the project with the camera on site and resolve problems as I go. I will try to cut out unneeded extra footage as I progress. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas 👍😁

What was the seal kit you used? I have (what looks like) an identical MF30 but haven't been able to identify which kit I actually need.

I too had difficulty locating a seal kit. A local dealer said they could find it if I brought the cylinder in, but the seals alone were over $150. I wasn't paying that much and rolled the dice on specifying a piston seal based on the dimensions of the groove. $7 and she's functional again.....I uploaded a picture to my FB and Instagram page today. It shows the piston seal part number. Thanks for watching! 👍😁 Instagram: instagram.com/flat.thunder/ FB: m.facebook.com/Flat.ThunderChannel

Would it be possible to run achain over from the pipe wrench to the excavator bucket and use the hydraulics to loosen the nut with a boom swing.
@FlatThunder3 жыл бұрын
I like how you think! I don't know that I have the correct geometry to reach it and keeping the wrench on the gland would be tricky. The left hand side was much easier than the right. I think the right hand gland was damaged from a previous change. Some times a bigger hammer is the trick! Or in this case a bigger wrench. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas! 👍😁

i have a Massey Ferguson B30 backhoe that needs to have the hydraulic seals replaced. However there is no videos on this. can anyone help with one
@FlatThunder3 жыл бұрын
I have not seen a video specifically on that model. The standard rams will very similar with the gland possibly changing styles. Some have a retaining lock ring you need to spin out. If it has a rotatory actuator those are a little complicated. Watch Wes Work resealed one in a video. It was pretty interesting, but I don't recall the specific model of backhoe. It was a Massey Ferguson though. Thanks for watching and best of luck on the repair. 👍😁

Awesome job but definitely not a easy one.

Thank you! I had to get creative with the tools I had available. I since purchased some bigger wrenches that could make this a little easier. Thanks for watching 👍😁

Put a little heat on the ring
@FlatThunder3 жыл бұрын
In process I tried a small (teeny tiny) amount of heat. I didn't want to overdue it since I did not get a complete rebuild kit. Didn't want to cook the rod seals in the gland. Thanks for watching 👍😁

PUT ALITTLE HEAT ON IT.
@FlatThunder2 жыл бұрын
I tried using a small propane torch. I didn't go full bore with a big torch or a ton of heat. I only sourced replacement piston seals and didn't want to melt the seals in the gland nut. Thanks for watching 👍😁
