This is the Friday Night theme of News 4. My home station WRC-TV NBC4 Washington, DC. The song is also represents its late anchor Jim Vance. He was the anchor of News 4 for 48 years and passed away in 2017 at age 75.

I was watching George Michael and Jim Vance videos tonight, having grown up in the DC area we were sooo lucky to have these two pinnacles of the profession be our local newscasters. They were best friends and their chemistry will never be replaced. Imagine, there was a time where we looked forward to and enjoyed the news because of how talented our broadcasters were. RIP George and Jim...I'm sure you guys are laughing it up in the afterlife together. Thanks for all the memories!

@@ZackMorris1 Back in the day, It was a heavy weight fight between Channel 9 (WUSA: CBS 9) and Channel 4 (WRC NBC 4) for local news supremacy. Three big names passed legendary Sports caster Glenn Brenner in 1992. George Michael passed in 2009 and Jim Vance passed in 2017. To this very day, Channel 9 and Channel 4 have never really been the same.

@@chuckers40 I remember George Michael crying talking about Glenn Brenner when he passed on the broadcast. That level of class will never be met again in local broadcasting. Glenn was great too. Such amazing talents all across the board. What qualifies as "news" today is an absolute joke.

@@ZackMorris1 Glenn worked as a sports reported at WFIL where George Micheal was. George made Glenn change his on air name to Matt Brenner, so listeners wouldn’t confuse him with Glen Bonner a reporter there. Glenn later named one of their sons Matt.

The computer has brought tremendous progress to human growth & development but one area where it has led to serious regression is music. There's absolutely nothing to compare to analog sound-a group of people working together to create the perfect sound.

Not only I do office production keyboarding on my computer, hence my name as Captain Keyboard. I have been able to work with it and learn software applications in the privacy of my home in ways that I would not likely learn in a typical job. Also, I have been able to hear music and more music on KZbin that I could not find anywhere else when I used my 1978 high fidelity component system, which may be obsolete today. I wish that MFSB did not disband itself. Their music is absolutely superb.
@RyanSchweitzer772 жыл бұрын
I agree, although the computer has also brought us some great music production, namely a lot of dance music that I like, but you are right in that it has also brought about such musical abortions as "autotune" (ugh), regression there indeed. Nothing really beats music produced in the analog domain, with real musicians playing real instruments, with no digital over-processing via hardware or software plug-ins, but recorded to analog tape with (now-vintage and highly sought after) analog studio electronics, you really can't beat it. And MFSB really fits that description quite well.
@myklmusic2 жыл бұрын
I use digital equipment in my studio out of convenience. There's noOne there at early morning hours when I awaken, and rush to record - sometimes an entire piece. But there's nothing like playing in a Band. I'm still an analog Musician though. Even with digital technology I try to capture the feeling of analog sounds. Digital can't compare. SomeOne once asked me why I don't sample. I said that I've sampled my own music, because it's fun. Bottom line is, I don't sample because I can actually play.

In the early '80s I met Jim Vance outside of my Cub scout meeting at the Meadowood Presbyterian Church in Silver Spring Maryland. He was there with Salvador formica who was the producer of Jim Vance's evening newscast. Mr formica was my friend's father and I can't remember what Jim was doing there that evening but Jim was a smoker and my parents were smokers and they were all outside smoking together. We watched Jim Vance every night on the evening news and I just thought a lot of him grew up with watching him. What integrity he had and my loved it when he would share his opinion about one thing or another not the opinion of the news station. Years later I would meet him again as an adult. He was a frequent patron of blues Alley. Many things inspired me to get my first Harley but Jim Vance loved riding his Harley motorcycle and what a love for that I had as well. It's true that Jim Vance picked this song is the closing theme for the new show and every time I hear the song I think of Jim Vance.

For so many years I always pictured this being An O'Jays or Harold Melvin and the Blue notes song and I was thinking that this was intended for one of these artists but the producers and label felt that it didn't need any lyrics to it and therefore kept it an instrumental.
