Thanks for such a great set of videos. You have convinced me that it is time to move on from my 10 year old Skoda Roomster to this new type of car. Living on the Isle of Wight ( so low mileage) and having 16 solar panels on my roof, an electric car is an obvious choice. The MG looks like it will fit my requirements perfectly . Great effort and amazing levels of positivity!! I think this is one of the few videos showing the reality of a long journey in an EV in the UK. Regrettably I don't think the convenience factor is quite there yet, but congratulations to MG (albeit from China) for producing such an impressive package. However realistically, battery and charging technology needs to move onto another step to provide the ease of use and convenience of a conventional car for long distances. Although I await with interest to see Jaguars next electric car - the XJ, due to be shown next year.

Great set of videos illustrating real world use. The car looks amazing for the money but I think an extra 50 - 100 miles of range would make all the difference in comfort (i.e. you would have been home before 3am). It would also relieve the anxiety around your close shaves. I guess the big question though is it worth another £10k for that with an e-Niro or Model 3 when you probably do 2 trips a year of that length ?

Thanks very much (and congratulations!) for producing this informative series of real-world driving videos. You’ve done us a great service. For my own part, I think this has finally convinced me that it’s not wise to buy such a low range EV. There’s too much planning ahead required; too much continuous range anxiety; and too much dead time extending journey times while waiting for the car to charge (also, I think we should start factoring in the cost of service station food and drink into the equation for how much these things cost to run! :-) ) I did pay the deposit for the MG ZS EV, but I can get it refunded.
@PlanetautoUK5 жыл бұрын
It’s not for everybody, but we loved it, and would have one in a heartbeat 💗 after this road trip, we had no range anxiety, and we would realistically not do 400 miles in a trip very often, and would charge overnight at home, making it very versatile for us and extremely cost effective 👍 as the range increases to 231 in an urban environment *Annabelle

how many motorway miles were you getting before needing to stop? over 130/140/150?
@PlanetautoUK5 жыл бұрын
We were driving from any speed between 20mph to 70mph. We planned the route and figured in where we were going to stop and factored in back ups in case we needed to stop sooner. This may not answer your question though, I’m afraid, as we didn’t travel without having a definitive plan, and we did not use a full charge on the motorway. *Annabelle

So at 80mph (or so - don’t want to put words into your mouth) you get about 65% of range. Tankful = 105 miles and 80% tank = 85 miles. This is just the information I’ve been looking for. Thank you.
@PlanetautoUK5 жыл бұрын
We are going to get a definitive answer from MG , as this was our first ev road trip - I’m having to read up on this, next time we know to do this - I found on an ev site, how accurate not a clue -- The combined (motorway and city) energy consumption of the MG ZS EV is about 315 Wh per mile. By comparison, this energy consumption is the equivalent of a fuel consumption of 127 mpg in a traditional petrol car. The actual energy consumption will depend on several factors including climate, terrain, use of climate control systems and driving style. For example: sustaining high speeds in cold weather could result in an energy use of around 445 Wh per mile. However, driving at low speeds in mild weather will increase the efficiency to about 205 Wh per mile
@VisciousHippo5 жыл бұрын
Planet Auto ok so using a bit of maths, the range at high speeds in cold weather is around 115. Useful to know. I may just have to get used to a more gentle pace on long journeys... Hare and tortoise etc.

Planet Auto that’s ok. What was behind your wife’s hysterics whilst filming. That cracked me up. Also liked her good explanation of how to use the chargers on the move. I think that is the most daunting part with bev’s. I will be playing with all the buttons on the test drive. I am wondering if dealers will be letting people turn up, sign a bit of paper and then take the car out on your own for a drive. I can’t see social distancing test drives working. Is the guy or girl going to sit in the boot with the parcel shelf removed behind the rear seats. I test drove a diesel Alhambra a few years ago at Thurrock Lakeside and the guy made us sign some forms and then just gave us the keys. Thought that was much better than having someone sitting next to you trying the hard sell whilst you are trying to test drive. Stay safe and keep making great informative videos. I like the analytical nature and the details in what the car is like to drive in a descriptive sense that you do well. Felt sorry for the guy in the back with all your purchases piled on him lol
