If you loosen the nut & put the brake drum on backwards , you can tap it off the shaft. I hope that helps.

is this the same on a 1972 mg midget? When I look inside the hub all I see is a dust cover. It doesn't come out like the front one does.

I don't know anything about the Midget, but from what I can see in the following diagram, you're right - there's a dust cover. Doesn't appear to be any nut to hold the hub on, but if that's the case, how does the hub stay on I wonder?!: www.ukmgparts.com/catalogue/mid-midcat-3-submid24-rear-axle In other searches, I see pictures of half shafts that have a flange at one end, so presumably the hub attaches to that. Hope you manage to find an answer!

The Midget is a totally different design known as a 3 quarter floating axle.
