MGB exhaust & overrun Sound

Some sounds from my 1972 MGB GT.

I was on my way back from Players Classic at Goodwood, and I noticed my exhaust was popping a lot during overrun down a hill, so I put my GoPro on the back to capture the sounds.
I don't know what exhaust I have unfortunately.
My number plate isn't in great condition, as I swapped the front and rear plates over.

My grandad has the MGB GT and he drives it literally every day. And when i learn to drive, I really want to drive it to school :). It would be soooo amazing driving it because there is an amazing view on the drive and it would just be pleasurable :)

I'm waiting on a grandkid to drive my 67 GT, keep telling my kids to hurry up 😂 I used to take them to grade school in the car, 25 years ago.

Aw my grandfather has one too. He bought it new in 1973. One of the last chrome bumper's. He never drives it now but I start it up and take it down the lane for him to keep everything moving.

Carl'sMods&Class Ok Yes, I agree with you on the plastic. I used to love old english classic cars. My family had about a dozen when I was growing up. Funny thing is my first unofficial car was a 72 B GT. Oh well, Mk 1 Miatas are just as good.

redmr2na I have a 2003 corsa c 1.0 life twinport and it breaks down frequently. It has only done 53,000 miles and in the couple of months i have owned it it has had a new maf, coil pack, full service, gear linkages, and relay and it is still breaking down, i think it may be either the egr valve or the throttle body

I might be picking up an MG project. I've always love these cars. I remember one time at Infinion Raceway, I saw an MG hold off a Corvette for nearly the entire race (I know it was suped up, but so was the Vette) and that kinda sold me on them. Beautiful sounding car, man

Try shifting into 2nd to syncronise the gears then put it in reverse it may help prevent grind but not always

Yes, I do that (but with 4th), but sometimes I just can't be bothered.

Nice to hear a stock sounding exhaust compared to my Tourist Trophy which has a far more basey and throaty sound

I don't think mine is stock, but have no idea what it is. I've only heard a handful of Bs that sound like mine.

Stock sounds very raspy/bubbly (not far off this but quieter), blown sounds much more like a harsh roar, the TT sounds more like a basey bellow

Hi Adam, big fan of the channel! I am thinking of altering my 72 mgb gt exhaust by removing the front muffler. I understand you don't know what exhaust set up you have but do you know if yours has two mufflers or just one at the back? Thanks in advance!

How is the MGB with rust? Is it wax oiled or do you just keep it clean?

I just (try to) keep it clean. It's bubbling a little bit, but not too bad.

+AdamC3046 get the underneath wax oiled trust me it will help you out so much in the future, oh and there shouldn't be popping noises coming from the exhaust
