First of all I love the purr of the car in your opening and I know MGB’s are the focus but what a beautiful cozy indoor space you have for sharing your interests two new words for scrabble too ! Binnacle and Nacelle.

Thanks for the comment. Binnacle would count 12 points plus 50 if you used all your letters and more if you hit some bonus squares.

Binnacle... pronounced as in trash BIN. Geoff did sell the White MGB to buy an early Austin Healey. The rear seat is not only "unusable" but a hindrance to accessing the battery. If you would like an original radio, let me know, I'll send you one. Excellent production as always. Happy New Year.. PS very nice house.

Thanks Jeff. I should have googled the pronounciation before recording. By the way, I visited your site and you do unbelievable work. Are the the signs from scratch or are some restorations? I would like to see more of the folkart. I let you know about the radio. The PO did give me one and it is in the junk in the trunk video (loot in the boot). Not sure if it is the original, I think it is though.

@@mgbsandotherstuff2982 Hi, All of my Signs and Logos are entirely hand made by me. Artist's hardboard cut from 4' X 8' sheets, then cut to shape, hoels drilled for mounting, edges beveled by hand ( and a couple hand tools) , 9 foundation layers of paint, then hand drawn with a Pentel 0.7 mm mechanical pencil, then hand painted with artist's brushes. Following that a bit of "distressing/antiquing" . Then some final fiddling and finished off with one coat of clear acrylic on the back over my hand brewed silver paint, then 3 coats of a UV proof clear acrylic on top then some final touch up and buffing. Labor intensive. I have my work in 20 countries to include collections, auto restoration shops, a 13th Century Chateau in Provence France, 25 pieces in an Alfa Romeo museum in Australia, several Lancia pieces in a collection in Japan, etc. Also in the US in "man caves" , auto related businesses, motor cycle museums, home garage shops etc. I sent 5 pieces to the Global Pres of Ford Motor Co for his personal collection I show my work in Monterey and Carmel Calif ( where I'm from originally) during August Monterey Auto Week, a 9 day bash all over the Monterey Peninsula starting with Vintage Racing at the Laguna Seca Raceway on Fri and Sat and ending with the Pebble Beach Concours the followign Sunday. . I have my work in a galley/shop in Carmel for the week plus 2 more weeks and often I show at the Concorso Italiano at the Black Horse Golf Course which is a one day showing during auto week. Let me know if you would like an MG Logo ( n/c as in gift) BTW before I did this work I spent 20 years building furniture "in the style of" immigrants to the US and Canada 11850-1950.. Swedish, Quebecois, Russian, Ukrainian, Mennonite, Hutterite, Doukhobor and so on. Today I m painting an Alfa piece and prepping 20 sign blanks for a variety of marques such as Bugatti, Maserati, Abarth. Prior to all this 25 years in the car biz. I retired from that in 1990, may need to retire again : )

The major difficulty in installing a modern radio/stereo unit in an early MGB is that the car is positive ground and the stereo is negative ground. That means the 12 volt power lead from the electrical harness has to be connected to the stereo's chassis and the chassis then has to be isolated from the steel of the car body. The stereo's power lead is then connected to the car body. Your's looks to be isolated like that. Some owners of early cars elect to change their car from positive ground to negative ground so that the generator can be replaced with a more modern alternator. That requires changes to the wiring that I don't like and the installation usually looks unprofessional. My reference says that the chrome surround on the Speedo and Tach mount was deleted in May 1963.

One way to make the switch to a negative ground and adding an alternator so that it looks original, is to get one of the new alternators that looks like a Lucas generator. Pricey but looks good.

Thanks John. I am starting a bit of a diary of dates and such so that maybe in the furure I can do a video on all the changes throughout the production run. There seems to be a lot.

The reason that the gap between the side lights and grill on your fenders is smaller than on the original car came about when British motor regulations required side lights to be vertically below the headlight so the side light was repositioned inward about 1.5 inch. I have an original choke in perfect order to fit your car which I replaced in my 1970 B with a correct one. If you would like it contact me and I'll send it to you

I wondered why the change was made. I looked for some information on it but none was forthcoming. Maybe once I have come across all of the different modifications that were made during the MGB production run that I may make a video with all the details. I would probably be way too long though. It seems that there is not really one completely inclusive or for that matter a conclusive source for all the changes that were made. Thank's for the offer I'll let you know about the choke, I may be taking the car to an MG specialist to do a thorough check-up as I am planning an adventure for the summer.

Nice video, do you have a remote for the stereo? I my case I have mounted the stereo in the glove box in both my cars, an MGB and an MGC GT using a piece of mdf board mounted to the lip under the door opening and the square section crossmember. With the glove box door down I can use the credit card remote which came with the stereos. When not in use the remote stows to the inside of the glove box door with a bit of velcro The units that I got have hands free call facility and the microphone clips perfectly and unobtrusively to the instrument shroud although at any speed with the top down it isn't really usable

Hi Tom. Yes, it came with a remote. which is very handy and has a phone gizmo as well. I don’t use the radio much as I like to use a SD card that plays on random. I am pretty cheap and have no friends (JJ) so when I retired I gave up my work provided iPhone for an $18.00 a month flip phone, in case I breakdown on a remote country road. The video “MGB Walk around and cosmetic changes” talks a bit more about the radio, speaker and shutoff switch that I use. Thanks for the comment.

my "64 had a medium blue tonneau and boot ... same color as the seats ... this was in 1973 so they were orginal to the car.

the ship's compass is housed on gimbals in the binnacle on older ships -- all digital now of course ... and yes, you're pronouncing it incorrectly 🙂 ... my "74 had the overdrive switch on the windshield wiper stalk -- a very nice feature, wish the others had it ... i like the body color dash on your B ... i can't recall what my "64 had, but my "65's dash was a crackle finish black ... was a colored dash original on the "63? thanks for video!!!

I understand that it is pronounced "bin" rather than "bi". My 1980 had the OD switch on the shifter knob, but it never worked. The original dash would have been crackle black. Thanks for the comment.
