welcome back! been following you for yrs :) I wish my B's overdrive leak was this easy; never been able to stop the six sump (bottom cover) bolts weeping, and I'm not alone w/ this prob ... and yeah 20W50 oil (like Castrol GTX) is safest bet for overdrive trans.

Hi, great and clear instructions. Does the gearbox oil need to be drained or can this job be done with the oil intact? Have just replaced the oil which is a pain to do!

great vid mate, how much oil does the trans and overdrive unit take?

If I remember correctly it is about 4 US qts. I usually just fill it from the plug on the side of the trans and wait til it starts pouring out. That is when I know it is full.

Hi thanks for this. Do I have to drain the gearbox oil? If so is it by the big square drain plug on the bottom or does the overdrive have its own drain plug. Thanks

Draining the oil does help, yes. With it empty I won't have excess oil dripping from the overdrive and making it harder to create a good seal with the solenoid cover/plate. No oil in trans = better seal!

@@mgbeasy7038 if you jack the rear of the car up high and leave the front on the ground, the oil level at the overdrive is low enough to do this job without any leakage, without draining the oil. May help someone in the future…

Did you empty all transmission oil beforehand?

Yes I did have to drain the transmission oil! But it gave me the chance to change it out!

is that that transmission drain plug sitting next to the overdrive or is it further up on the trans itself? great videos, keep them coming.
