MGB Trunk Lock Replacement

Thanks. The Boot on my 1969 MGC wouldn't latch properly. There was some obvious damage to the locking mechanism but it wasn't obvious what caused it until I saw the John Twist video about trying to open a malfunctioning lock on an MGB. Ahhh! So that's what happened. They damaged it trying to get back into the trunk. I got a new latch, watched your video twice, and installed the new mechanism, then gingerly lowered the trunk lid while hoping for the best. It worked perfectly. The trunk now closes and locks securely. Thanks for the tutorial.

Hi thanks for the video. Whilst I did not replace the lock it gave me the clue. The striking plate at the the bottom of the lock just under where the key is inserted was not hitting the striking mechanism sufficiently to open the boot or as you say trunk. I undid the retaining bolt and release the plate which is of the type you discarded. I then carefully put it into a vice and bent it a very small amount. Refitted the plate and it now works every time. When you press the lock button you get a feel for the exactly how much you have in hand so you can take further action in a few years time and therefore avoid getting locked out. You can tell I am under coronavirus lock down so had time to write this which may help somebody. JP

LONG NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS... to loosen nut on latch... Not banging your wrench into the metal...
