I had to think about that but its true. Ancient: simple drum pattern, probably the most simple, electric guitar from the 70s, synth from the 80s, not too knowledgable on 90s mainstream pop, vague memory of 2000s mainstream (fergie, outkast, black eyed peas) but from those 2 decades I feel like they probably took the technological advancements in music that made it sound modern as well. If not for the exact way they did season 1 it wouldn't have been half the legend it became. It's why all the following seasons except the last were the best show there's ever been. Who roots for Daenarys if you dont see how her brother treats her and how meek she is? If you dont fully appreciate LoR or GoT you either dont understand, aren't really paying attention or have no idea what an amazing production looks like. Or maybe you just grew up online and are used to being stimulated by one thing after another without ever having to do anything for it. Therefore anything that's not adrenaline packed consistently doesn't keep your attention and your thinking about all the other things you could be doing by yourself online. You dont have to love them but if ya know a damn thing you know how well done they were.
