Please could you take a look at Romain Axisa’s work at some point? He was a part of The Big Push with Ren and has some really beautiful songs of his own. He does instrumental guitar songs like ‘Django’ but he also has a delightful singing voice. ‘Happy Song’ and ‘75 Beats Per Minute’ are particularly enthralling songs. 🙏🏻 Thanks! 🥰

Hi Justin, Jim's son here. Was so lovely to hear you sing that. You did a fantastic job. Maybe a little episode on that song? (If you don't ask you don't get.) My dad has passed now (Nearly 10 years ago), but he always appreciated your vocal chops - and the songwriting!! My band CITIZENS! used to rehearse underneath you at a rehearsal space in Putney, the owner of which was always saying how lovely and wonderful you all were. I have two young children now so don't gig much or consume much pop culture at the moment (I'm looking forward to that ending sometime in....let's say 2027) but I really enjoyed this episode and will definitely watch some more. This is a strange old KZbin message isn't it? I don't normally write these kind of things but I really loved hearing you sing that and it was lovely how you sequed into it. I may be wrong but I'm not sure my dad was a direct influence on MGMT, but then again....who knows. Keep fighting the good fight Lawrence (Jim's son) Diamond

Your father's song was (still is) one of mum's favourites. She played it in the car almost constantly one summer, driving around the lanes of Dorset, when I was about 6 or 7. And yes, Justin singing a version of it would be very cool.

MGMT is worth a deep dive. They are probably the most interesting band going currently. They have chosen a strange but wonderful path that sees them reinvent themselves over and over again with varying degrees of success. I think it's commendable. Their first album is damn near perfect (Oracular Spectacular) and it brought them instant success. Their second album (Congratulations) is a masterpiece in my eyes and it's nothing like the first album. I'm sure their label was unhappy about that. Loss of Life is revealing yet another side of MGMT. I love it.

I recall seeing them at bonnaroo in 2009. They were god awful, as they later self declared. they were plucked from obscurity onto some large stages very much prematurely. I remember walking up towards the second largest stage at the festival durring "the youth" as they were reaching the chorus. The thing about MGMT is that no two songs are similar, really. They play in a LOT of different genres of music, often on the same album. Some of it lands, some of it doesn't, but it's absolutely a band worth exploring sometime, as there aren't a lot of bands who have no fear to explore that way, as many pick a "sound" and stick with it in order to cement an "identity" in the market - and they don't. This has probably cost them the kind of "mega-success" they *could* have had if they had just stuck with making "Time to Pretend" or "Kids" over and over again - but instead, they just follow their own muse, which I have tons of respect for - and when their stuff *does* land, it's brilliant. But even the tracks that don't are always interesting.

I love watching Justin's videos. They make the stress of the day melt away. MGMT is a great band. Very eclectic. Everyone needs to listen to MGMT's Brian Eno if they haven't already. I've been listening to Nothing to Declare daily since its release. Such a beautiful song. Can't wait for Loss of Life. I didn't think it was possible for Connecticut to produce such a super cool band.

I have a suggestion no one probably wants, but if anyone likes MGMT's more psychedelic stuff, like Flash Delirium, listen to it with Daily Nightly by The Monkees. Good stuff.

Very sophisticated sound......heard them a few times over the decades.......but my fave band for a long time was Sonic Youth.......very different. 3:46

Love all off MGMT's back catalogue (although 3rd album was a bit pants) but this album is shaping up to be something great with the tracks I've heard so far! Awesome video as per usual 😍

Kids and Time to Pretend put MGMT on the map with their debut, but they have been consistently entertaining and interesting ever since. Justin, you might really dig a couple of their lesser known singles that no one has mentioned yet: Flash Delerium and Little Dark Age.

I got into MGMT recently and there is so much to chew on lyrically also. All their albums are worth a listen (and a review 🤞) and they are all so different. I’ve been blasting “One Thing Left to Try” off the Little Dark Age album on repeat

Justin, you have to watch Paulo Nutini's live version of MGMT's 'Time to pretend' - brilliant vocals and the lyrics just come through so clearly, and will resonate for an auld rock'n'roller like yourself

Man MGMT is like the first band I have memory of listening to. Time to Pretend and Kids when I was like 10 or 11 maybe, what a throwback not listened to them in years, you should definitely listen to those 2, and electric feel which you mentioned. Dont mind this one either, very different to their older stuff though

Totally surprised me as well! Love the sound and I agree, echoes of Simon and Garfunkel, which I loved! Going to check this band out! I wish there was more of S&G's, and CSNY type of music being written by new artists, but also produced in a manner where the vocals and instruments shine through as they are meant to. Not like the main stream stuff today where compression is added to everything! ✌️

Justin, I Check the new MGMT song because I stop your video just to listen to this song. The arrangement as some similarity with a Beatles song called Julia or an America band song. These special picking is so hanging up that makes the song very good. The song and the video is special. It’s a piece of art this song. Mgmt means: the management.
