Wow, you just blew my mind. Thank you for this. I don't do hip hop but I make electronic / ambient stuff. I've been trying to get better at incorporating vocal samples into my stuff and using them almost like instruments. I made the switch from FL20 Producer's Edition to Studio One 5 Artist like 3 months ago bc my new PC is running Windows 10 and I was having technical issues every single day with FL. Took me about 12 -15 hours to get a decent understanding of Studio One but once I did I am so happy that I finally switched over. Given a choice to go back to FL20 with no technical issues or stick with Studio One, I'm choosing Studio One every single time. Everything FL does, Studio One can do better. The one thing I will say with FL is it's easier to use if you only have 1 monitor. Once I got a 2nd monitor the Studio One workflow felt way more streamlined and efficient.

MG The Future I’m watching a Native Instruments video and finally found the vocabulary to express something that you do better than ANY of the hardware and software developers: All of them (and I do mean all of them) are so focused on their discounts and current releases that they fail to decisively share how their products and services are going to be used by others. I don’t know if they are focused from the perspective of the genre that they believe that their offer is most likely suited for or the technical aspects of the science involved. But none of them seem to have any ARTISTRY in mind FIRST. I would appreciate their videos if they started from another genre such as country music just to see if they can create something that fulfills the expectations of sound, tone, and rhythm aspects first and foremost. We can then better figure out things from there lol 😂 Otherwise they face backlash for selling us something we don’t want, need, or capable of really using on a consistent basis. We are walking by the good and great stuff while everyone is overstocking dead weight:( 😡😡😡😡 Thank you for using any products outside of the low hanging fruit right off the bat! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🏆🏆🏆

I had a similar issue today when I wanted to get the midi out of the arpeggiator effect, (although I'm still on 3.5, it worked for me and I think this should work around the pattern issue, but it is Mac specific though). Make sure IAC is active in your midi setup on the Mac, then in SO set up an IAC input "keyboard" and output "instrument" as two new midi instruments - make sure you pick the same channel on both, then send the output of the track playing the pattern to the output IAC "instrument", add a new instrument track taking input from the input IAC "keyboard"; Now the second track is listening to the midi from the pattern track and you can record the midi events on the second track and then mess around with them (slide them around, humanise, whatever). Granted its not ideal since you lose the pattern connection so you freeze all the probabilities etc - so you'd only do it when the pattern is pretty nailed down; but it solved my issue and might work for you. I'll be upgrading soon, so I can try it for myself, but I thought I'd mention it. If you give it a shot and it works, you can spread the word in your excellent vids :)... Peace.
@MGTheFuture6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that! Someone showed me in events or similar you can also convert Patterns to MIDI...i super overlooked it. Imm do a video about that later
@seanhayes29986 жыл бұрын
Cool, can't wait to see it. The main advantage of going the IAC routing over "convert to midi" is that it's less final, you can route it to a bunch of different/layered/split instruments, Impact or whatever at the same time; play around with the settings before you have to commit to the pattern. Looking forward to see how you apply it.

This workflow is cool. theres a wa simple more efficient way of doing this. you would 1st drag sample to the 1 of the arrange window. 2 place a loop marker of 2/3/4/5/6/7//8 etc.. in reality you might want to start with 2 bars to begin. then you simply hover over tempo and drag or scroll your mouse. this will then lock to the tempo of said sample. then once you have this, you then select all then right click, the go to split at grid. then once split highlight yet again and send to new impact. super simple workflow.... Respect Da Process #KeepBangin!
@MGTheFuture6 жыл бұрын
Don't they have fixed end times when you use loop markers?

honestly that's all opinionated. we all slice to the grid. like or not. once your in any DAW your slicing on a grid. whether it's manual or by threshold or by region or my bpm... all them functions are on a grid. dudes be out here doing the most and fronting like they dont use to sound wise. but they know they be using the functions. no shot at you my brother.just thought I'd clarify that. cause some ppl swear they not chopping on a grid but they in a DAW. like the DAW is a Grid. lol...

Right click on the pattern event, Instrument Parts > Convert Pattern to Part That converts your pattern clip to a midi clip
@chuckcostello51674 жыл бұрын
The problem with this is that it converts the pattern to a midi part, which is fine. But what happens is that midi is still only mapped to the instrument. It does nothing to pitch the individual elements. Even exploding the pitches to tracks still keeps it mapped to the original instrument (i.e. a drumkit with kick, snare, hats, etc.) so when you move individual parts it doesn't pitch it, rather it hits different elements of the kit instead. Any way around this in SO 4? I haven't figured it out yet aside from assigning each element to its own track from the beginning and not using Impact or Pattern Editor. No way to do it from Impact and Pattern Editor that I know of.
@TerenceKearns4 жыл бұрын
@@chuckcostello5167 not sure what you are trying to do but if it's change the pitch of the individual samples, that's up to the instrument. I'm pretty sure impact allows this.
@TerenceKearns4 жыл бұрын
@@chuckcostello5167 you can easily change which instrument is mapped to any given midi/pattern track.

Impact XL does not have a function that would allow you to change the tempo of the sample perception while maintaining the pitch. Normal timestretching is not provided for in this sampler. Therefore, unfortunately, I have to turn to FL Studio to work with loops - in Fruity Slicer time-stretching is perfectly implemented.
@candicefamber54346 жыл бұрын
This may seem goofy, but I think my purpose for chopping samples is just so I can interpolate what I chop. I couldn't figure out why I want sampling to be apart of my skill set, but as soon as you played back your sequence, my reflex was to replay the main elements, tweak it, and create based on that... Then I realized that everything I've been planning and aiming to acquire has been anti-producer's block... Smh

I noticed with all the Studio One videos how much cleaner audio has been. Which has kind of been throwing me off. I’m planning on switching to Studio One 4. I’m currently using FL20. But if wanted that kind of muddy sound that you would get from an FL Studio. How would go about getting that sound out of S1? I’m just thinking an artist might hear the same beat from S1 and FL and like the one from FL more because that’s what the majority of hip hop and trap producers are using these days. My bad if I’m thinking bout it too much lol. I’m an INFJ.

Just drag the clipped sample to beat 1. set it to not follow and just drag the tempo up or down til you hit the right beat 2. Chop with markers instead. Much faster workflow
@MusicDiedWithDad6 жыл бұрын
BTW....I love your channel. Not trying to hate. You have many nice tutorials and general thoughts in music/life/business
@MGTheFuture6 жыл бұрын
Humbly put, I strongly disagree. That method, of “guessing”the tempo is remedied by tapping. The “chop with markers” is divorced by using Even loop points (1,2,4 bar interval) before sending it to any of the studio one samplers. Because auto slice will always be in even increments. Also, “markers” dictate an end time...auto slice dictate an “end” time. This method, hinges on there being no fixed end time...and sounds much better then fixed markers. That’s why i prefaced it, the difference between amateur sample chopping and prolific. I learned this at 16...it’s not that deep 🤷🏾♂️
@MGTheFuture6 жыл бұрын
I understand, I’ll do a follow up....because the fundamental difference is not easy to type, it’s a different experience

it's not a guess thing. it's more efficient and faster to drag the tempo rather than tapping. it's doing the same thing but it's simpler this way
