Here are quick maths for both Ninja Sword and Tigrex as a minority doesn't want to believe me in regards to the inferiority of the Ninja Sword: A Ninja sword set with attack boost 7 and Bludgeoner 3 as well as critical boost will look like this: ((200 * 1.1)+10+20)*1.4*1.05 = 367.5 Let's say you unrealistically added Peak Performance, which can't be maintained with SnS due to Metsu Shoryugeki taking chip damage all the time. Then you'd have 396.9. Now Tigrex with the set I've shown in the video: ((228*1.08)+9)*1.4*1.32*0.75+((228*1.08)+9)*0.25*1.32 = 437.9 So even for an unrealistic scenario on the Ninja Sword build, it is not better.

@@TryDat7 Bludgeoner and Handicraft are similar in terms of damage on paper while the bludgeoner allows you to use Drill Slash and the Slash combos in general, which have higher DPS. Not by a ton, but by a margin. So not really, no.

I think a lot of us would still appreciate a video exploring the Ninja Sword. While it may not compete strictly in terms of Effective Raw, no other weapon in the game lets you slot Defense 7 + Evade 3 + Mind’s Eye 3 + [Elemental] Resist 3 + Stun Resist 3, and still do pretty good damage. Given that crits are guaranteed, the Ninja Sword allows for a more ‘berserk’ play style where you continue attacking even if the weak point is inaccessible, or stand in the middle of 2 monsters and Windmill.

For those people in the comment section asking about the ninja sword.. This build is "meta", which means you know the monsters attack pattern, you know what is the weak spot and so on and so forth. This is basically what a speed runner would use, especially having all those attack skills multipliers. On a much more casual run, where you would probably use utility or even defensive skills rather than attack skills, or where you would only hit weak spots 2 out of 10 times. Ninja sword would probably the best one for you to use. Good luck, hunters!

Brutal strike in this build would be useless as you wouldn't have negative crit (it's also a really bad skill in general). Attack Boost is the best to choose from for Tigrex!

Against Chameleos, the Rathalos SnS is actually good. But Tigrex likely still wins due to Shoryugeki's Motion Values scaling way too much through raw. Still a great option against him though.

The jump from blue to white is roughly 10% and currently, due to skill limitations, SnS with innate white have a big advantage over those who have to slot it in.

The Rathian SnS is a slight damage decrease for speedrunning but if you hunt casually, it might be stronger if you proc poison frequently.

Hope someone responds to this, but generally why do "best builds" tend to ignore defence completely, and any idea how to tweek this build so I'm not rocking lagombi/low monster armors? I get that defence is irrelevant in speedrunning but I'd venture to guess that most players aren't insane gods that never get hit with big moves

The lagombi arms can be upgraded to 74 defence in the Endgame (or 72?). The teostra parts iirc go up to 80 each. Armor at a certain point has really bad scaling in terms of damage reduction and 10 armor doesn't make any difference at all realistically. Which is why the defense boost 7 skill is so hideously bad

I'd swap out Handi 4 and Razor Sharp 3 simply for Protective Polish 3. And then grab Weakness Exploit and Crit boost. I tried making an elemental build that way for Chameleos, used the mathematically best one and it still felt far worse than a straight up raw build.

Damn. This is the first MH where I'm trying to main SnS. I have played nothing else outside of the demo. Kinda disappointed that the elemental ones are not worth it. Is it because the elemental damage values are so low? Also I barely have a weakness exploit lvl 1 charm. Haven't farmed much tho. :D

It's because raw skills as almost always are much superior in their damage increase. Elemental skills got slightly nerfed in this game (especially Ele Crit from 35% extra damage to 15%).

I ended up not knowing the Ninja sword was a thing until I already had all the stuff to make it. I ended up making use of my bludgeoner 3 with a lv3 and 2 slot I'm working on the skills as we speak but I'm hoping to get Crit Boost Guard Offense Guard Bludgeoner Attack boost I THINK I can make something work there.

A lot of commentary discussing ninja sword as an alternative. The real alternative weapon is the Rathian tree, Queen Rapier. With rampage skills, it has 226 raw, 28 poison, and 10% affinity, and blue sharpness. Compare it to tigrex 228 raw, -15% affinity, white sharpness. I say ALTERNATIVE because the damage is completely similar when counting 1-2 poisons per monster, and it doesn't require as much crit investment when your affinity starts a whole 25% higher. So, before you get your armor, decos, and talismans in a perfect set up, try Queen Rapier. Then with perfect gear make the Tigrex switch.

I've noticed that with bad charm rng (best I can max my att at is 5), the damage is almost comparable between ninja build and tigrex on the training dummy. I wish I could get a good charm to maximize the dps, but with att 5 only then the ninja build is much comfier to use.

You should consider Rathian SnS 220 raw, 10% affinity. With my set atk 5 Atk ramp up 2, It's only a few EFR behind Tigrex SnS in white sharp (seriously, it's like just 5 EFR difference) but it have better sharpness than Tigrex on White so you can neat in some other combos than just shield bash, also have poison status, it also LOOK BETTER!!!

Vermillion Orgul has probably dethroned it, the two get similar raw damage. I'd say on average Tigrex maybe does 8% more? On the test dummy. But Vermillion can deal elemental dragon damage, has a large chunk of white, and probably has more potential with Valstrax's Ramage skill. It also makes Drill slash combo a viable option. Though I suppose it's basically just a better nargacuga sword.

bludgeoner is actually trash on SnS. even with 100% crit 3CB and 230 Raw and bludgeoner 3, it still does less damage than the pre 2.0 Narga build.

Blights only proc through monsters, palicos or endemic life. Your own elemental weapons don't proc it! :(

It's good, but not with this build. A protective polish handicraft 3 build for the rathian SnS pulls off Drill Slash very nicely.

It's extremely strong with Protective Polish and Handicraft 3 against monsters that take a ton of poison. Kushala is one of the best match ups for the Rapier.

If you have a spare slot in your charm, yes. Or if you don't care about the single point of Wirebug Whisperer. There are four 2+ lvl slots but 3 of them are occupied with Crit Boost or Weakness Exploit.

The pure raw and sharpness modifier just simply leaves it in the dust. Even optimized, Narga barely beats the Hi Ninja.
