F.A.Q. Q: What? Bludgeoner and Mind's Eye with a weapon with blue sharpness? Benji, what are you doing? A: For this run, I took inspiration from sensei Deaga's idea of using Mind's Eye to increase damage on the "hard" parts of the Teostra. However in my case I have decided to use Mind's Eye as one of the main sources of damage! The Teostra's weakest point is its head, but it's very difficult for the Switch Axe to consistently stay on this weak spot without getting hit by the hateful instant jumps. Conversely, the front legs are a fairly easy point to hit, but the HZV is very low for raw. So what? Here came my idea: by turning the sharpness of the weapon to green, the front legs of the Teostra become "hard" parts and then hitting them activates Mind's Eye! 38 of raw HZV is less than 50 (the head), but with that juicy 30% more damage the front legs become an extremely good spot to hit! The rest of the set is a direct consequence of this choice: no weak point (since the legs do not activate this ability), maxed critical eye (for a total of 70% affinity) and critical bonus at 3. Bludgeoner at 3 to increase damage in green. To be honest, in the end I didn't hit the forelegs too much in this run, but the basic strategy was this! Q: Was getting orange sharpness part of the strategy? A: Getting off in orange wasn't in the plan, the mount should have come in well before the hunt was over, but it was okay anyway! The motto is always the same: "it is useless to try so hard until the official TA rules are announced". And trust me, getting below 5 was already very difficult on its own. Q: Okay, Benji I understand your strategy. So isn't the Switch Axe better than the Jyuratados? It has 230 of Raw! A: I don't think so. The Jyura has 230 raws, it is true, but it has -15% affinity, the green is not very long and has no slots (which I needed a lot). Barioth has less raw, but 30% natural affinity and a very useful 2 slot, so for me it was the best choice! Q: TA Rules? A: This run uses a custom set of rules with the intent of getting closer to the spirit of the TA Wiki Rules, which have not yet been announced. Edit: TA Wiki Rules now are online and my ruleset it's in line with the official regulation. The rules I used: - No palico - No Palamute - No traps - No capture - No endemic life for damage (blight bugs, blast toad, ecc.) - No flashbug / Screaming Pod - No Pokémon Battle - Riding only to slam the monster one time - No buff butterflies

Bludgeoner too?! You went above and beyond, Benji! But looking at it coldly, yeah, that SA has a lot of green too and Toaster's forelegs will proc ME on Green Sharpness, so it sounds like a plan LOL. We'd have to calc it vs Jyura to see which one is really better (+30 raw is MASSIVE, it may be enough to outdo the -45% net affinity difference) but I'm sure it would end up as "mostly the same" either way, plus Bari SA gets to enjoy the strong blue sharpness for a while. Nice catch on bludgeoner shenanigans!
@Benjiboi3 жыл бұрын
Yeah 30 more raw is a lot, but also +45 affinity, if you can slot in the set CB3. But it's not only a matter of affinity. It's also more green sharpness (and yellow one ahahaha) and a one more lvl 2 slot, which was very useful to max out all the skills I needed. Also, Barioth's SA is more beautiful (and now a symbol of my runs), which is a key point!

The fact that Rise Teostra has 17,000 HP even with just one player present makes this even more impressive.

Where'd you find out how much health he has? Either I'm stupid, or 17,000 is a bit too low for how much damage this guy did

@@majorh2726 From here, a site that datamines the MH games. Players have been relying on this site for a while now. mhrise.kiranico.com/data/monsters/200239249 Note that the demondrugs, might seeds and felvines boost your attack considerably. Add the attack up and crit up skills that this guy probably used, and it's not unreasonable that he was able to get sub-5 minutes on this Teostra. Note that the Barioth Switch axe is ice too, and when powered up, will do extra ticks of element damage to Teostra, and he's already weak to ice.
@JanusHoW2 жыл бұрын
@@LuigiG145 He's weakest to water, but all of the Water SAs, on top of the Jyuratodus SA, lacking in the things the Barioth SA has going for it. -The Almudron SA has 42 Water and an Element phial, but only has 180 raw while having 0% affinity. -The Mizutsune SA is good, but only has 15% affinity. Plus, Power Phials take noticeably longer to Amp up compared to Element. -The Ludroth SA really needs no explanation.
@petrie9113 жыл бұрын
Coming from GU, it's so strange seeing that SA seems to be an element weapon now and power phial is no longer the one true phial.
@JanusHoW2 жыл бұрын
For raw damage, the Power phial is still good, but it was the introduction of the Amped state that raised every other phial to at least moderate relevance. Power phials, you see, take the longest to get your weapon into the Amped state. Meanwhile, Element (and Exhaust phials too) can Amp up the axe significantly faster. The Dragon and Poison phials are faster still, but since they don't do any additional damage outside of Sword mode, and thus NEED to be in Sword mode full time until they get Amped up. Element and Exhaust hit that balance of damage output and Amped state speed just right.

I’m surprised it’s not Almudron SA since Teostra’s weakness is water.
@Benjiboi3 жыл бұрын
True, Teostra is weak to water, but it is weak to ice too! A little less, but just enough to make Barioth's Switch Axe interesting too. Also, when it enters "blast" mode, the Teostra is weaker to ice than to water (an information that unfortunately is not reported in the hunter's notes). That said, the Almudron is not that great as a weapon, it has a lot of element, but it has a really too low raw. In fact, anyone who has used water Switch Axe has chosen for the Mizutsune or for the Jyuratados!

Nice run! Never thought about running Bludgeoner and Mind's Eye for speedruns - then again, I'm not much of a speedrunner. Still, one would think that the hidden sharpness damage penalty would make things difficult...or were you somehow hitting in the middle of the weapon's animation every time? It's probably more likely that having to run away to sharpen would eat up too much time, even with Speed Sharpening 3 and Protective Polish.
