20:26 you made an error; the pilots of Helios 522 didn't forget to turn on the pressurization! The maintenance crew turned the setting to manual not auto and didn't put it in the tech log.
@catzkeet4860
@catzkeet4860 25 күн бұрын
However the pressurization toggle was on a checklist the pilots actually went thru, in part to ensure the pressurization toggle was in "auto". And they confirmed it was (audible on the CVR) when in fact it was in manual mode. So the pilots DID make a mistake, and illustrated confirmation bias very clearly....they expected the toggle to be "auto" so that's what they saw instead of "manual" which is the position the toggle was actually in.

Thank you for the great deep dive. About the pilot, please note the following. There were so many issues that only a pilot could carry out. 1. Many of the tracking and other systems were turned off within minutes after the plane's last check-in. 2. Because the systems needed to be off so Vietnam wouldn't pick the plane up. 3. It is believed the plane was flown right on the edge of both countries' responsibility. 4. It is believed that he killed all the passengers immediately by turning off the oxygen and by flying in a very high attitude.. 5. There were no calls made by the passages. 6. The copilot did make a call that wasn't answered. He used a much longer container of oxygen. The pilot locked him out immediately, it is believed. 7. Eventually, all the systems were turned back on. The pilot needed oxygen. I think the larger oxygen canisters last no longer than an hour. 8. When the plane made almost right angles, it was right over the pilot's hometown. He was saying goodbye. That's f=/ked up to the nth degree. 9. There are two types a radar, the original, and an advanced kind. The original can't be turned off. The plane was picked up for hours with this kind. 10. The polot seemed like that his wife wanted to divorce him. He asked her if he could move in mistress into their house. Harems are more acceptable in East Asia. Other things: 1. Mangosteens are native to SE Asia, especially Malaysia. They were out of season in March so they were investigated further of who and why they were on that flight. 2. Because of this flight, lithium batteries can no longer be in the cargo of passenger flights. a) Passengers need to keep the batteries with them, and they can not place them in their checked luggage. b) They are enormous amount of cargo/freight planes with just two pilots.

Not as in depth as I hoped. There is a lot that has been overlooked, even with some of the information George provided. I'm thinking particularly about the report on the simulation flight data, and also the discrepancies and disagreements that have arisen between different groups about the flight path and the verification of parts that have been discovered. It is all very complex though, you could very easily spend several hours more on all of this, but you do end up with mostly the same conclusion - we just don't know, and that new upcoming search is the only possible lead atm. The flight Sim data is complete hogwash tho. They can't even tell if the coordinates were in the same sim flight run that he did for God's sake and the report doesn't present anything that even suggests that they might have been practice suicide runs, at least in the quote that was presented in the video. I've watched other videos about this and other pilots were interviewed who had read the reports and reviewed the data, they also said the suggestion of them being practice suicide runs was nonsense and everything pointed towards normal practice simulations. I think there was some data that showed that he did do simulations where he deliberately got the plane into trouble, but the other pilots also said this is very normal, as they do that to practice and figure out things that could go wrong. There's no point practicing everything perfectly, because when something eventually does go wrong, if you haven't experienced it before you probably wouldn't recognise it, let alone be able to deal with it.
@peterwilson7532
@peterwilson7532 3 ай бұрын
Exactly. The data retrieved cannot be proved to have waypoints flown through in one continuous flight. That makes that data no better than random. It was not even possible to tell if the simulated plane was ever at those coordinates on the same day! Imagine the Police charging you for murder because they tracked your mobile retrospectively for months, during that time a path can be plotted of you leaving your house and walking past the crime scene. Trouble is those coordinates were from 60 different walks you went around the neighbourhood over a six month period. At no time did you ever walk the murderers route in a single day, nevermind a single walk. You cannot conclude anything from the Captain's home computer. I fail to see any reason to suspect the pilot at all when you consider the, demeanour, voice and early training arrival of the pilot that day. Strangely the younger copilot was not considered at all in this video. WTH.

One thing that is wild to me is how with satellite GPS tracking (along with all the radar and other systems) is how any jet cannot be tracked damn near down to the meter if it has any power at all. Meaning it should have been tracked right until it hit the ocean. On the Boeing remote control thing, it could be argued that it could probably be in their interest to keep knowledge of what aircraft the system is installed on the down low until it’s on all planes (if it’s even in use), keeping the knowledge away from hijackers. There are similar systems in use, like I think the VisionJet has a Garmin (I think) auto control system incase any of the crew becoming unresponsive. The plane will land itself. On the pilot self delete theory. What about the copilot or crew? If it was under manual control for as long as that end implies.

This was a great review of all the efforts involved in solving the mystery of flight MH370. A sudden cabin depressurization as far as I can tell has not been ruled out. It would cause all on board to black out rapidly if the emergency oxygen masks were not immediately deployed by the Captain or Copilot. I am only speculating but if a small meteorite fragment or bit of spacecraft debris penetrated MH370 pilot's cabin it could explain the sudden loss of communications with control towers. The final few seconds of pilot panic could have resulted in an attempt to turn the flight back home until a damaged autopilot system took over after everyone had died. This kind of collision is a statistically rare event but is still easy for me to imagine. I hope a new MH370 search is made as you describe in the final segment.

The transponder should be one of those systems…. that can almost NEVER be turned off . The transponder itself should be in the avionics bay. Boeing had issues with Lithium batteries catching fire on the 787 and aircraft where grounded. As far as packaging goes, just because they say something is safe, does not mean it is. Look up the oxygen generators that were left charged during transport which led to an aircraft coming down. There have been many crashes from causes that were said to not be possible.

This is a reply on 2 channels(Decoding the Unknown & Mentour), so it looks a bit strange. The answer to the plane crash is: Captain Chesley Sullenberger I'm on holiday at the moment and that means I get to watch a lot of KZbin. I have also wondered about what has happened with MH-370. Something Mentour mentions at the start is that a plane cannot disappear, plane parts will be found in the sea or on a beach. Parts have been found and also more than I thought. I had a conversation with my parents a few years ago about the matter. And my idea was to have spaces in the nose, wingtips and in the tail with balls where the plane's number will be written. It will make it possible to find more parts in the event of a plane crash. As previously written in Mentour's video, it is said that a plane cannot disappear. Why haven't they investigated how a plane disappears ? There is a natural difference in how an aircraft behaves on land and on water. But what would an impact with a large concentration of debris or missing parts look like? And then I think of a movie with Tom Hanks where he plays Captain Chesley Sullenberger. How about comparing the preparations regarding Flight 1549 and MH-370 ?

No, the helios flight crew did not forget to set the presurisation. There had been some ma8h5 enqnce qnd th3nselec5or dial had been installed incorrectly. The flightcrew didcheck and set the presur8sation b7t it did not activate because the selector shaft was in the wrong position. This was a maintanance not a crew error.

Now do episodes about Amelia Earhart and Glenn Miller. The black hole conspiracy theory sounds similar to the Stephen King story “The Langoliers”, except there’d be no flying back through a black hole.

The shoit down theory is based on the SA-11 used on the flight 17 couldn't tell the difference between the Boeing 777 and the An-26 ( miltary trandport plane ). This SAM system is in wide use in both it land and naval variant in the area. And the area was under quite a lot of political tension over territorial claims between China and other countries like Vietnam ( which were arguing quite alot at the time ). So these 'check and balances' you mentioned maybe not all that 'checked and balanced'. The real problem with this one is this. While initially in the short term it could be kept secret, after flight 17 and ten years of time passage...it would have come out by now.

At some point they might discover the black box or more wreckage, but it's a big ocean and deep enough to make it challenging. I don't think we will ever know but the public interest isn't going away so maybe someone will find something.

I remember telling my son years ago that I suspected the plane was destroyed to hide the assassination of a passenger. It kind of explains why the plane would have flown so long. Plenty of time to force info from the person in question.

There’s even a Reddit thread on this issue! Looks like the video was only partly uploaded, and cut off right when Simon was saying he didn’t believe the official story. FWIW, I’ve been in communication with a statistician who is sure he figured out where the plane ditched, based on an extensive analysis of the pings. He has indeed found a conspiracy.

I was recently reading about a giant explosion that levelled a forest in Russia, they were saying they think it could have been caused by a primordial black hole. A black hole the size of a molecule that would move straight through earth until it hits something and then BOOM. I’m not saying it was that, I’m just saying that it’s possible.

Are you referring to the Gimli Glider? Landed safe. At an apparent disused airport. Only there was a local club event happening. People everywhere. Gimli, Manitoba, Canada. Incredible luck, all round. Pilot had to glide the jet. Turns out, this pilot's hobby was flying gliders.

What do you mean you didn't hear of Helios Airways Flight 522??? It was horrible. The most tragic thing is that one of the light attendants. experienced swimmer and freediver managed to retained consciousness, and with the use of crew's oxygen bottle managed to get to the cockpit and was wrestling with the autopilot to reduce the altitude! Escort fighter pilots watched him fail, succumb to fatigue and die.

@57:28 - "it is all electrical nowadays." Not true. Landing gear, for example, has an optional non-electrical method of dropping (supplementing hydraulics.) Landing gear can be deployed with both 100% electrical loss and 100% engine power loss, and as long as the plane isn't flying upside-down, the wheels will drop. Even if Boeing implements its patent of full remote control, they won't be able to stop the pilots from dropping the landing gear because there's a physical connection from the cockpit to the landing gear. There are many physical switches in an aircraft that cannot be triggered remotely.

Far from a comprehensive analysis but the captain was last to speak to the tower just before the disappearance sounding a little panicked, multiple times, tracking systems were repeatedly turned off. They knew what they were doing and it was either the captain or Co pilot. Much more likely the captain.

Surely we're past the stage where we should have virtual remote control of aircraft for emergency situations? It'd be under serious security for obvious reasons, not to mention the fact the ground pilot/s would be in a room of people, themselves. Surely a lot of flights could've at least been recovered before they crashed, at least those caused by pilot error / incapacitation. At the very least, having a backup pilot on the ground seems like a possibility with technology these days and if it saves crashes happening, a cost-saver too. That's not forgetting the excellent PR boost you'd get as the companies first adopting it. An easily understandable safety reassurance goes with the airline industy like cream on a bowl of strawberries on a warm day. So why isn't it a thing?

The lesson learned here is never get on a flight whose flight number is the same as the sum of the cube of its digits. 3^3+7^3+0^3=370. Flights going in the opposite direction are usually +1 higher than the first flight, but in this case, 3^3+7^3+1^3=371. There won't be any other pairs of flights where both flight numbers are the sums of the cubes of their digits.

10:20 yeah that fuel consumption is why people are starting to research Airships again, there's no real way to replicate a combustion jet engine but for cargo at least an Airship uses way less fuel per kilo to go the same distance, and with lightweight solar panels and batteries in development they could be even more efficient (not self sufficient, a self propelled vehicle powered exclusively by solar will probably never see the outside of a university science competition).

I'm still leaning towards the pilot suicide idea. What if the First Officer locked the Captain out of the cockpit? Maybe the Captain needed to use the rest room? Maybe the First Officer knocked out or killed the Captain? Easy enough then to explain the fact that the Captain was not the suicidal one. BUT, what's up with the suicide flights on his home trainer??? We may never know exactly what happened. Unless they can find the black boxes, that is.

Super remote but could be a faulty plane. Door fell off and decompression happened. Pilot took it off autopilot to deal with it before losing consciousness. The Boeing 777 is super reliable but in 2023, there was an article warning of possible engine defects and linked to "iron inclusion" or something like that. Boeing hasn't been the best of companies recently.

You mention aircraft running out of fuel, but, ironically, I believe the worst aircraft disaster in air history was the Canary Islands collision, and that part of the large loss of life was the Dutch pilot's last minute decision to take on fuel when it was not necessary. The massive amount of fuel exploded resulting in a disaster that might have been contained with less fuel to ignite. I am sure the pilot felt he was being professional and expedient, but one just never knows, even good actions can sometimes result in chaos and grief.

IDK but it seems so suspicious that the transponder was turned off during the tower hand off. I don't think it was terrorism. No demands, no claims of responsibility. I don't think it was a mechanical fault. All we really know is that at hand off the transponder was turned off and the plane made a large course change and started flying a completely different route. Why was the sat phone not answered? There were two pilots in the cabin. Neither of which responded to hails. Were they unable or unwilling to respond? It seems to me what ever happened must have originated with the pilots. I hope one day the black box is found and the haze becomes clearer. Must be terrible for the families of those lost.
