Ten years ago, on March 8, 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 vanished from radar screens, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions and speculation. The Boeing 777, carrying 239 passengers and crew, was enroute from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing when it disappeared without a trace.
Despite extensive multinational search efforts in the Southern Indian Ocean, where the plane is believed to have crashed, no bodies or wreckage have ever been found. Now, as the Malaysian government considers launching a new search for MH370, the mystery surrounding the missing plane continues to captivate the world.
Numerous theories have been proposed over the years to explain the disappearance of MH370, ranging from mechanical failures to terrorist hijackings, to murder-suicide plots.
One theory suggests that the 53-year-old captain of the plane, Zaharie Ahmad Shah, purposefully crashed the aircraft after making a U-turn across Malaysia. However, without concrete evidence to support any of these theories, the fate of MH370 remains shrouded in mystery.
TalkTV's Maddie Hale speaks to V.P.R. Nathan, KS Narendran, Fuad Sharuji, Nigel Cawthorne, Christine Negroni, Richard Godfrey, Captain Byron Bailey, Dr Simon Boxall, Florence De Changy and Guy Zajonc.

Can someone explain to me why we need to have an off button for a transponder on a plane?
@K-OnTheCase
@K-OnTheCase 2 ай бұрын
The flight crew (pilots) need to have control of all systems on the aircraft in order to troubleshoot potential system failures. (IE: electrical failure, fire etc. ) By having the access to all systems on the aircraft, the pilot can systematically troubleshoot problems by having the ability to turn systems on or off to isolate or source what systems are, or aren’t working properly. Maybe an easier explanation would be by using an example of a kitchen toaster. The toaster is overheating & will catch fire If you can’t figure out how to stop power. You tried the on/off button, but that’s not working, so you unplug it from the electrical outlet, shutting down the power, ultimately stopping it from catching fire. This would be a very simplified way of explaining the importance of having access to all systems so you can properly troubleshoot any problem. Not a great example, but hope it helps. 👍🏼

The key to understanding what happed to MH370 is the likely method for disabling or switching-off the ACARS satellite communication system, which did happen within about 60 seconds after the transponder for MH370 was switched-off. Shortly after the last communication was made by MH370 pilot Zaharie Ahmad Shah, the transponder for MH370 was turned off. Shortly after that happened, within one minute or so, the Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) of MH370 did not function at all (turning a control knob in the cockpit would not have accomplished this). While turning-off the transponder for a Boeing 777 is rudimentary, as the control switch for the transponder is located in the instrumentation console between the two pilot seats, and all that is required to switch-off the transponder is the turning of a knob, the process of disabling or switching-off the ACARS is a bit more complicated. To manually disable an ACARS in a Boeing 777, a person must enter the cargo-hold of the plane by opening a metal-floor lid in the flooring of the plane's cabin (and not the cockpit) descend down a metal ladder, and the locate an imposing and large fuse box, which has many dozens of circuit-breakers for the electronic-powered equipment and systems in the plane. That person would have to know precisely which of the dozens of circuit-breakers controls the power for the ACARS communications system and would then have to pull the circuit-breaker to disable the system. It seems highly unlikely that one person in the cockpit turned off the plane's transponder, then exited the cockpit to find the floor-lid for the ladder, scaled-down the ladder, and then promptly found and pulled the appropriate circuit-breaker to disable the ACARS. If the person who switched-off the transponder stayed inside the cockpit, then how could he or she have switched-off or otherwise disabled the ACARS without visiting the cargo-hold? If the ACARS system of MH370 was switched-off or simply failed, or if the pilot logged-off from the system, the ground station for the ACARS would have sent a message to the plane's ACARS, and the ACARS of the plane would have sent a message to the SATCOM satellite saying that the ACARS was "switched-off", "failed", or that the pilot "logged-off" from the system. However, at 2:03 a.m., when the ground station sent its message to the plane's ACARS, no messages from the plane's ACARS were sent to the SATCOM satellite. So, the ACARS for flight MH370 was not switched-off or failed for some reason--it is likely that the plane's primary source of power was shut-down. How would the pilot have shut-down the primary power source for the plane, but still was able to fly the plane? The most likely answer according to experienced pilots who have flown the Boeing 777, is that the primary and backup generators were switched to 'OFF', and then the Auxiliary Power Unit was switched to 'ON" and then to "OFF'. The plane's power source would then have been supplied by its RAM Air Turbine (RAT), a small wind turbine that is connected to a hydraulic pump, or electrical generator, which would have then been a power source for the plane, to provide electrical power to its most critical electrical systems, like its navigation system, for example. However, the RAT would not have provided power for the plane's auto pilot system. The person who desired to completely disable the ACARS on Flight MH370, to prevent all ACARS communications with the SATCOM satellite, knew that it would be necessary to shut-down the plane's main and backup power sources, so that only its critical systems like its navigation system, would work.

Generally speaking I enjoy green dots documentaries however that one they added a whole bunch of theatrics which cannot be proven. For example the FO punching trying to break back into the cockpit, the pilot watching him walk away from the cockpit door. Making a PA announcement that he needs help in the cockpit to see if anyone in the back was still alive on the CCTV door camera. Just go back and re-watch it. There is an abundance of non facts all throughout that particular episode. And honestly it makes me wonder how many liberties they took on their other episodes. I agree it is entertaining for sure but I wouldn't go to their documentary for facts in this particular case
@RicardoMusch
@RicardoMusch Ай бұрын
@@PH13PH But as far as I can gather from all the documentaries surrounding this disaster, the technical details hold up, the pilot controls the pressurisation, electrics, the door opening. We have the data from Inmarsat... All of that addas up, forget the theatrics. Also interesting that there was a potential earlier flight where this could have happened but didn't. Would be interesting to find out from the first officer on that flight if he attempted to get him out of the cockpit.

The plane was spotted by a secondary military radar ( as a blip) that belongs to Malaysia, the authorities took no action despite knowing an aircraft went missing. They could have deployed a jet fighter to follow the plane. Reminds me of the ghost plane, The Helios Flight 522 on 14 Aug 2005, which belongs to Greece, crashed due to lack of air and suffocation to everyone on board. It was a pilot error, so why blame MH370 pilot for suicide?! We don't know what happened inside his cockpit.

If as theorist suggest the pilot glide landed are we to believe all 239 passengers failed to open a single door in an attempt to save themselves. All those life jackets and not one floating body?

The captain loaded his own program into the plane's computer so that he could put the first officer who was on his last training flight through the paces. _Was he capable of handling his responsibilities? How would the first officer react if communications were lost? Could he navigate to the nearest airport based on the stars in the sky and layout of city lights?_ The captain's software worked perfectly, having tested it many times at _home._ The ventilation sub-routine lacked data that the plane had left the ground and responded by opening air valves. It was nighttime. Everyone felt drowsy and some passengers were dozing. Nothing unusual. They slipped into unconsciousness and were soon dead. The plane continued on the captain’s reprogrammed flight path until it ran out of fuel. Authorities may load the captain’s program into a similar plane and verify the result.

Until Malaysian Boeing 777-200 Flight MH370 is found, no one for sure can say what had happened to it. Speculation are many: 1- The Pilot did it & made it to crush in deep waters of the South Indian Ocean. 2- An outer power did dismantle all of aircraft's navigation and communications systems to make the pilot blind not knowing where he is flying. 3- Terrorist-Hijackers on board the plane and were given permission by pilot to enter the cockpit & take photos i.e. two Iranians killed the Pilot & Co-Pilot and one of them was Pilot trained by IRGC wanting to crush the plane on US strategic Planes parked in Diego Garcia or flying the plane towards Australian Christmas Island to rescue Iranian refuges held by Australia there in detentions for long years. 4- An outside navy shot down the plane . and many other speculations .

The past searches could be off by 500 miles in any direction. It’s true. If an aircraft that ran out of fuel, you would think an aircraft would leave a debris field? The other scenario would be, this aircraft just entered the ocean very quietly. Meaning it did not crash into the water. Trying to find a triple 7 , in a vast Indian Ocean, remains to be very difficult. When it is located, we don’t even know if the flight recorders will tell us anything. Remember, it’s been in the water over 10 years.

I think it crashed on land. When they lost contact, maybe massive electrical failure, causing pressurisation to drop, failure of oxygen masks causing passengers to suffocate (hence no communication) so the pilots either carry on on the flight path and crash in cambodia in the forrests. Or the pilots head back to malaysia flying pretty much blind and land in the forrest of Aceh. Suicide theory doesnt make sense, why would you kill your passengers aswell as yourself, and terror attack makes no sense as terrorist want you to know what they have done not crash somewhere remote. And the theory they crashed in the ocean makes no sense. Why fly all that way?

There have been cases of pilot suicide where they kill passengers along with themselves. So it wouldnt be a huge shock.
@liamholt9951

@@fridgeffs5662 i suppose its possible but still doesnt seem logical. If the pilot commited suicide why fly until the fuel ran out, why didnt the crew raise the alarm after making a 90 degree turn then flying in the wrong direction, why was no communication from passengers and while all this was happening what was the co pilot doing?

Yes the Malaysian and Australian governments knew from day one what happened. They know the captain crashed the plane and there's no doubt about it.The smoking gun is on the captain's computor.What is not said is that plane at one point went into holding patern mode (flying in a circle) for 22 minutes, which corresponds to some negotiation between the crew and Malaysian officials. The Malaysian govt probably isn't very interested in finding the wreckage and the black boxes because they could prove their involvement and the captain's last words confession in this tragedy. About Diégo Garcia we have to get over with this base has nothing to do and no fighter jets has shot down the plane simply because there are no reasons and moreover the plane flew more than 7 hours until the fuel ran out. The captain's motive(s) may be political, religious, undetected mental illness etc we may never know.However new data comming from ams radios tend to beleive that the next search of MH370 will be successful

Consider the fact that it could have been snatched into space by an alien craft. It is most certain that the plane is not in the sea.

They have no idea what happened n I think it landed in Diego Garcia islands n they broke it down n threw debris so it would be found n agree w one woman who said when planes crash there are millions of pieces that float to top. Pilot was working for some branch of government n was ordered to do whatever he did! Final answer

It was the pilot that did it, with out a shadow of doubt. When I was begging people not to take the clot shot, I was shouted down, I'll be shot down with this. But eventually I'll be proved right, I always am. One day people will listen to me.

The pilot did it it’s obvious the pilot was in negotiations with the government and the government decided to shoot the plane down two American fighter jets shot it down then they cleaned up the debris let’s not forget that the natives of a few of the islands close to the US base seen a plane flying low and on fire also, let’s not forget there was a radio transmission to one of the airports from the pilot of MH 370 saying that he was on fire requesting to land I heard it in the beginning, then it disappeared the transmission. Don’t let the government fool you we shot it down it was hijacked by the pilot he was a Nut Job All the so-called evidence is fake. The governments produced all the different evidence of the planes path. They cleaned up the debris and have the black boxes stop being fooled by the government.

No one could because the pilot manually disabled the Satcom. The copilot’s phone did connect with the ground network for a fleeting moment when the plane was above the Penang island.
