Clockwork glaive is really awesome for this. Easy to get (from event quest, make sure you capture testucabra for the paddock oil), 3 slots (fits well in your gathering set) and effect extender so you dont have to worry about getting red buff again

For those of you wondering since there still isn't a part 2 yet, the second method is to do the G2 Quest "Mountain Rescue," and doing basically the same thing but finishing via the subquest of hunting 8 Ioprey. Just Dung Bomb the Zinogre if it's in the area you're trying to gather in.

On a related note, for ancient shards farming (and HR charm/z farming in general) the party pants guild 5 quest can be easily done too; the egg delivery is very easily completed if you're fast and get to the nest before Rathy spawns. Conveniently, the secret area is right beside the nest.

This method also works very well for gunners. Rathalos' back can be broken very quickly with Clust shots.

I did this a few times; and the best talisman I got was +11 Expert, +7 KO, 2 slots! Pretty good! I put a KO decoration in the slots; and I use it for my Lance, SnS, and Bow sets to get more affinity and higher chances of KO'ing a monster (It's not much; but the numbers do add up!)

Personally, I prefer to do this with my cera cemetery set (sharpness +1, crit draw, etc). Spawn in secret, farm it, then immediately drop down and run up into the nest area. It only takes 2 jump attacks to mount. After mounting, run around and land a fully charged draw attack to its back... back ALWAYS breaks, you are now free to farm the map and retire whenever you are ready :)

Gaijin Hunter, I found another good one. There's a quest for mistentoe in the High Rank Guild Hall with a Zinogre. The side quest is to chop his tail off too, but I get explorer and a gathering set and generally get 6-12 charms a run (without charmer) and tons of ore (I even do silver nodes because the ore in High rank H. Mount is worth 600-2000 a piece I think, so great for getting money too!) And the ancient shards can also dish out quite a pretty penny too. The mistentoe plants are all over the place, but you can solo get 10 of them easily if you know where the plants are. There's one at the top of Area 5, one at the exit to the remobras nest from the felyne camp (inside the camp, not at the nest), and there's one in Area 6 in the non-breakable covered area. I think area 2 (the vined area) has one always there too. And if you feel like it's a bother, just lop the tail off of the zinogre (ALWAYS starts in 6, so be aware of that when getting the ore there) and finish via subquest. :) Happy hunting!

Pesoaek Dragon talismans for melding, but also some dragon talismans are a GREAT source for resistance talismans and have higher overall skill bonuses than the Enduring, Enduring has a higher chance for rare skills like Edge Master or Arcana, but their downside is they have a lower chance of having two skills and an even lower chance of having anything go above 6

If you have a hellruin glaive, you can just mount once then run around to his back and hit it, almost 100% of the time you will proc a slime explosion that will break his back. Then you don't have to mount twice.

silvers give timeworns I do this method also :) it's less efficient but you can go to the den area then area two for two extra single silvers too and then go back to the mountain area and sometimes gold rocks respawn so you can get a tonne off singular runs :D

I generally just meld. That way I'm getting quests that I want to do done while also getting a whack of new charms at the same time. Not to say this method isn't good to know though, if you're looking for something specific.

This method goes much faster if after the first mount, you attack the Rathalos' back while its on the ground. It'll usually cause the back to break and you can end via subquest much faster. Edit: This does not always work cause the Los' back has a weird hitbox depending on the size but it doesn't hurt to try. I've done this method in like 3 mins several times.

I do the exact same quest for cosmicite and charms but with any weapon If you go to his nest there are little bumps around the edge, so take out your weapon and do a roll and you'll do a jump attack too, but that's because I'm bad at IG

I like to just go to area 8 with the eggs and take one to have him fly to me. That way it is easy for anyone without a glaive to mount him with all the ledges there.

Azure rath in g2 works too. You just have to flash bomb him in the air and he'll drop a Large Wyvern Tear or loot for subquest end. You can flash him twice too. If both times you flash him and he doesn't give you a tear then u have to 3x cart.

Why not use mountain rescue? You just have to kill a few ioprey in the same location for the su quest. If you use smoke bombs you can easily avoid the zinogre. Also they are weak to ice and I use fimbulvetr for my gathering set, so it really works quite nicely

if the rathalos isnt to be found you can go to the nest area(works everywhere and on rathians) and pick a egg. its guranteed that the monster(s) will come after 1-2 mins. i use it to fight them annd throw dung bombs on the when i need to capture them. just set a trap where they land after you pick and egg and you got yourself a trapped monster, ready to be caught.

I lucked out and got a talisman with Sheathing +3 and Charmer +10. Using this method I get around 12-20 charms per run. Sooooo good. Also I did use 3 torso up pieces on a 3 slotted chest piece. Skills are Charm God and Speed Gathering

Niraj Sookdeo Since I posted that, I did create a few end game glaives. In fact, it was because of this farming method that I realized how fun it is to use. The starter glaive works literally just as well though, for gathering charms that is.

Forgive my ignorance, but If I take on the Harverst Tour, even if I can't use felyne explorer, wouldn't be faster anyways? I mean... you can just mine the hell of the mining points you can reach and when you're done, just use a faracaster and end the quest....

I think it would take longer because you wouldn't have access to the guaranteed rare mines and you'd have to start at camp. Plus, it'd take a while to run all the way to the areas you need to get to opposed to starting basically in the area you need to be, and breaking the Rathalos' back takes about a minute or less. I heard in another comment that someone using a blast glaive was able to clear it in about 4 minutes with the same results.

I think if you have enough time and patience (and don't search for specific charms) you can also mine the silver rocks ot get some ancient charms. My best run so far was 6 enduring, 10 ancient and 5 shiny? (the yellow ones :P) I didn't even waited to mine again I just got lucky with my charm skill XD

So I did that to get some charms for my all new Star Knight armor (Mostly trying to get Sharpness +1 and something else) and I was trying to make an armor for Charm Hunting. I have a few questions and I hope you or anyone else could help me. First the armor would have Speed Gatherer, Charm God and Gathering God. 1. Should I try to get Pack Rat instead of the two "God" skills? It would make the armor probably easier to make but maybe the "Double skill" is weaker than both skills? 2. Should I consider lowering one of the two god skills to make the armor easier to make? With those three skills, I'd need a weapon with 2 slots at least and a +10 Charmer 2 slots at least to make it. If I should, which one should I lower? 3. Should I do a complete other set to make charm hunting easier? Thanks for everything~

Newb Looking for advise, I just got *Sect Happa* glaive and it says it has defense +20 on it and after equipping it and checking status it shows I'm getting only +15 from Tetsu armor and nothing from weapon... I'm confused, this is not the first weapon that I've seen that has defense but it is the first that I have used so where does it show that it's working or...

What I do during this hunt is break his head and a wing and sell all the pieces after for a lot of cash. If you get 3 Ancient Shards, you could easily earn 50k from 1 run.

The all-you-can-hunt remobra subquest is more efficient as you don't have to put up with rathalos RNG and the reward can actually be enduring charms themselves. You gonna do a video on that, gaijin?

Shorjok G-Rank, obviously, it should be G1 or G2. The subquest is to deliver a meteor chunk. You do the same as usual: eat for explorer, mine all the shiz, deliver the meteor chunk. As for the route and what items to bring, i can explain that in detail if you want. Downside: no rathalos materials Upside: no rathalos RNG, it's quicker, freedom of weapon choice, the rewards are charms too (this is the important part). There is a plum daimyo roaming around but half the time he doesn't notice you, and the other half he's taking his sweet time taunting and walking slowly. He can't catch you, trust me. He spawns all the way over at the entrance to area 10. You're heading for 2, though.

starfcy im new to mh4u but i think those are 3 different things, mount damage only happens while mount, ko usually happens by hitting monster heads and finally when it goes down it should be a regular knockdown either as result of a mount or hard hit from a hunter. But maybe someone with more experience can answer better or more accurately.

starfcy I think you can build up mount damage while it's on the ground. Even if you can't, hitting the back could break it before the next mount so it's worth doing.
