Use a file explorer app which lets you move or delete apps (move to USB flash drive) . Xplorer is one i use here.

If you convert the drive to internal storage then you won't be able to connect it to another device. So you won't be able to connect it to your laptop and transfer files. Windows won't recognise the drive. If you connect it back to the box it will be recognised and will mount.

probably not, since in order for the Mi Box to use the device as an internal storage it would need to format the ENTIRE drive, that means that any partition made before it would be completely erased and made into just one partition. but honestly, it would just be much easier to get a USB dongle like the UGREEN 3+RJ45 and just have the usb device always connected to that and a remote dongle if you want to use a remote and you will still have 1 free USB port for occasionally plugging in another thumb drive (perhaps if you want to sideload apps from your pc to the Mi Box)

Of course U can. But Ur Tv box needs a usb port. Xiaomi Mi Box S have one But Xiaomi TV stick does not, So u can't whit the Xiaomi TV stick.

How is the datatransfare speed of the usb driver? I'd like to use Quasar addon for kodi which can download torrents on the fly for watching movies on it. so it can download movies like 8-9GB. do you think it is duable with this extension or the transfer rate won't be enough.

The transfer rate is good. I have not found any problem when movies are being played from USB Drive (About 5 GB). I think it should work just fine with your setup too.

You seem to have got pretty good external storage setup. It depends upon the app developer to allow to store in external device. Some apps allow internal storage only and cannot be migrated to external device. However, most games do allow external device storage.

Hi, so I used to have a USB flash drive plugged to my MIBox3 and I removed it cos I wanted to put an app there to then transfer to the box and it's the worst I did cos now it says it's not supported by the Box and I don't even know how or what to format I should format it to.. whether it being NFTS or NTFS or whatever or ex-FAT(default) or other and how I should do it. I corrected bugs and it says device is running properly. I tried plugging it to the box and besides saying it's not supported as such storage.. it doesn't let me use either as external or internal storage, which was actually what I wanted because as I try to use Kodi, I don't know if it's the builds or what that slows it down and I think it's due to poor storage space as the box only has 5.6GB...thus wanting to use the USB drive as internal storage. Please help...I've google it up but can't seem to find a solution

this works for me. Ace Stream have settings and you can choose path to cache location. But when box goes to sleep mode, it disconnects USB and you will need to disconnect and connect USB drive manually

lewanay khan Yes. I use a WD 4TB My Passport (gets power from USB) and it plays back 720 and 1080p fine (don't have 4k to try). I point Kodi to the movie and tv file folders and it does a great job of organizing/navigating.

Yash Sagar It is true! 😊. I'm in the desert right now watching movies off the 4TB. I find it occasionally won't recognize the drive if I remove Mi power and plug it back in, but either a plug/unplug of USB cable or restart of the Mi gets it going. At the USB pop-up page, don't add the hdd as storage as it will format the drive (it warns you). Just exit the page and use EX Explorer to navigate or just add the folders in Kodi.

The 2TB USB Drive is now formated as internal storage so you can't unplug it and use it on your PC or you can't access it on ES File Explorer.

we need Mi-Box to be able to go root. That way we can have it read whatever the Heck is put in it. Also easier to expand memory too. Set this sucker up to have 50 gigs of internal memory. And to work with a low power or powered usb hub so I can run all my crap off it remote, game wand, external drive that is. 4tb.......

as soon "es" file manager takes permission for the usb stick that stops working and mi box do not recognise it. Also "es" manager shows up an otg drive with 0 storage! Anyone knows what to do?

NikolaosLedZeppelin format the usb then delete es file then insert the usb and install es file after, do not try to open the usb from es file as the problem will recur

same with my case, i don't open it with es. but it is still installed, i just go directly to format USB as internal, however it failed. I think i'll try uninstalling ES file explorer, maybe that is causing the format to fail.
