There is no telling how I ended up watching the "Mi Familia" movie, but when I did watch, as a 7-year-old, I understood every little aspect of this. I'm a first-generation Chicano, so everything connected correctly. It is because of this movie that my passion for storytelling grew. From now until my last breath, I will tell full and complete honest stories my mind could imagine. I would like to exchange emails and carry on a relationship with you, Same Differences, so I can better learn the way of film analysis.

I think this movie relied HEAVILY on Victor Villasenor's Rain of Gold. The outlandish family tales are peppered throughout his book, which is semi-autobiographical book about Villasenor's family.

Wow, you keyed into something about my Mexican-american family I had sensed but I had never had an accurate way to describe. In my nuclear unit we stand as individuals, were not a sort of family that is close 25/7 or one that necessary sacrifices for each other. In fact many of our resentments come from us being a bit selfish at key moments. But rather than simply, selfishness, it us being authentic to our true selfs. But we are also able to come together at times of crisis and help each other. We accept one anothers flaws and look past them to the good. We don't get caught in arguing the past too much. Which is different from my Mexican family. Everything is dug up and argued about.. constantly. The past never dies.

I can definitely relate to that. People get caught up in differences but don't realize how similar we are. The traditional Mexican family is very similar to the classic American family. The way we are with each other, values, food(different foods but food being important) even the classical music and westerns. I actually think we moved backwards, in the wild west days it seems like whites and mexicans were pretty normalized with each other

I'm Mexican and mi novia is Sri Lankan (the island nation South of India). And Bollywood is actually not as bad as many people might think. Here are three suggestions: 1) Bahubali (An Indian twist on the hamlet story, a warrior king is killed and thus fails to reunite with his queen and loses his kingdom to his evil half brother. His son however returns to avenge him and reunites with the long lost queen (his mother). 2) Maari (A crime boss who is feared by his community is actually a genuinely nice person who cares about those less fortunate than him. Things go downhill when he faces a corrupt police chief who successfully fools the public into thinking he's on their side. 3) Dangal (Based on a true story. A retired wrestler lives his life hoping he'd have a son one day who would follow his footsteps and be the first to win India an international medal in wrestling. He however, ends up with two daughters instead and although saddened at first, eventually decides to train them to achieve his life long dream.

This movie is overly boring, slow dialogue very little action. Jimmy Smits as a gangster? Not buying it. This video has the slight tinge of "Fuck trump" on it. Not sure why.
