Mi Purifier Pro H Review [Unboxing, In-Depth Review, and Noise Test]

Another day, another 'Budol' with my in-depth review of the Mi Purifier Pro H!
I bought the Mi Purifier Pro H because I wanted to get rid of the kitchen/food smells lingering in our living area as an aftermath of our mealtimes and it has been pretty effective.
It's reasonably priced, huge, and jam packed with all the features you could possibly want from an air purifier.
Very economical to run and filters are cheap too for the size, price, filtration capability. All in all a very good buy and I highly recommend getting one for large rooms and living areas!

Good review. I have a 3H and it works well for a bedroom. For people asking about the sensor, I think it works ok. Maybe it's not super accurate, but it still gives you an idea of how polluted the air is. It's not really that important because I don't use automatic mode anyway - I keep it running at all times on kind of a medium speed. Anyways, I like the product, and have been using it about 2 years - and it's still working and fairly quiet unless you crank it up to high - then it sounds like a fan.

Had this one for a week and returned it, while the body is well built the fan itself were super out of alignment making for for a wobbly machine an unnecessary noise even at low speeds. If they paid more attention in QA and tighten the tolerances it would be a great air filter.

Late comment here, but just checking, can the top grille be removed to wipe down the internals? Mine's dusty as hell and I resorted to attaching a wet tissue to chopsticks to slowly wipe it through the grille holes!

Same dilemma haha! That’s exactly what I did. Unfortunately the teardown of this unit is tedious but the newer models are easier to clean with removable grilles and fully washable bottom assembly.

Mine seemed to be fine and then today it is stuck on 001 / 18c / 48% humidity and not fluctuating.....my air quality is not that good! Any idea why this is happening?

It could be the sensor that is broken or some bug in the control circuit that requests the activation of the sensor. There are videos showing how to put the sensor always in active mode instead of sleep mode. Try some smoke near the sensor to see if the readout changes. If the sensor is in sleep mode it might take awhile

It would work if the whole floor area is under 50sqm. But it’s still best to have multiple small air purifiers per room like the 4H or 3H.

As long as it has HEPA filter, it’s good. Hospitals uses air purifiers only with HEPA filter. Kasi daw air purifiers without HEPA filters are just like electric fan.

Is it possible to use the automation to switch to the different fan speeds? I have the cheaper model 3C EU and it can only swap to auto, night (both of which are lowest speed most of the time anyway) and manual. So basically it can just swap to one preset speed (manual). Is this one better in this aspect?

I never really use auto mode fully but I’ve set my automation to default to manual (favorite) appropriate for the room size (40sqm) to ensure efficacy and once the values go above 70 it goes into automatic mode so the higher fan speeds can take care of the rest :)

Hi, I'm planning to get this one, but my concern is whether it has to be always connected to our phone to operate? I mean, as far as i know, we only can control it using phone apps right? After we set it up, will it still running if we disconnected it from our phone? Otherwise our phone battery will run out quickly.. Or does it have manual control (without phone)?

From what I’ve heard the sensor is good, just the readings being the issue and how the software shows an average of the particulates present in the air, nevertheless xiaomi makes good air purifiers just make sure to use it at a higher fan speed-that’s what I do. 😊

Depends on your needs and what you can afford really, Daikin is a very reputable brand and undeniably good at what they do but I wouldn't spend that much money on their machines to cover as much area as the Pro H does.

The 3H filter is rated for up to six months, 13% reduction in filter life after 3 weeks is actually normal.

Multiple units are required for irregular spaces where vertical airflow can cause issues. Air purifiers need constant airflow throughout the room to work properly. As long as the total capacity of the units you purchase are equal to or slightly bigger (better in this case) than the actual volume/floor area you should be good.

Nope, it uses a significantly larger filter. The old pro only has the same filter as the 3 and 2 series.

Sir Kevin can you do me a favor and shine a flashlight from the outside of the filter and see whether you see light passing through? I bought the 3H kasi and when shone a light, the carbon doesn’t seem to be as dense as advertised on Xiaomi’s website. Parang konti lang yung activated carbons. Are your filters the same?

A bit of light does pas through but the carbon pellets are quite adequate naman on mine. Definitely sure that the Pro H filter has significantly more activated carbon than the 3H.

I do my best to buy global versions of the Xiaomi appliances I purchase, the mainland server always take forever to execute voice commands via siri and the connection is usually patchy. Unless specified by the seller, Xiaomi appliances shipped in from China are usually CN versions.

This can cover up to 70sqm so your mileage may vary. The most important thing is airflow, if there are obstructions etc. it won’t work because there’s no direct breeze towards those areas so the lack of air movement won’t allow the clean air to reach all rooms. For multiple rooms you’re better off buying multiple 3H units but for open plan situations like living/kitchen/dining this will do.

I have downloaded the Xiaomi app but it does not appear to have the options shown on your video. Is there a later version? I am unable to find one.

We used different purifiers over the years. We have African gray parrots, the birds are dust and talcum machines haha. I must say this system is very efficient! Although the sensors deviate (Humidity and temperature) and indeed as mentioned here the display is stuck at 001. The only issue I have with this system: it responses to my water diffuser, even without essential oils (the water mist is the best option for the parrots). Yet as soon the diffuser goes on, the Pro H starts too. The display reads 021-038.

That’s normal, typical air purifier particle counters detect the atomised water in the air lol. I hope the sensor can tel the difference between water and other particles, it’s a bit of a nuisance really.

As you've said in the video, it does the job almost too well haha! I've made rules in the app for it. During a certain time periode: 'if..... then....' that works okay.

The water doesn’t really get trapped, don’t worry about it just leave the air purifier running set at a constant speed. The water that does end up in the filter will evaporate anyway ☺️

The air purifier will not affect room humidity. Water molecules are simply too small for the media to filter.

All Mi Air Purifiers with Laser Particle Sensor has this constant `001` reading issue - this is especially when you upgrade the firmware to the latest. The sensor itself isn't the problem though, but it's more of what Xiaomi's software has to do with it. More about the sensor - the sensor is sourced from a 3rd party manufacturer. It's the same sensor I use on my Arduino project.

The sensor's manual says, it has two modes: Active and Passive mode. Active mode will send the reading (data) to the host (in our case, the mi purifier) regardless if the host asks for it or not. In Passive mode, the sensor will only send data back to the host if the host sends a "request" data to the sensor. In the case of Mi purifier, they seem to have configured the sensor to be in a sort of soft Passive mode that can switch to full Active mode when a specific condition is met.

Also it seems that the data is averaged, tuned to favor a specific geographic location where the air quality is really bad that it'd would drive numbers up to constant 140+ range.

I've familiarized myself enough with the sensor, so I've managed to bypass the Passive mode, and so now my 3H unit reads about the same as my dedicated Air quality sensor. The reading is real-time and very sensitive - I don't know if it's a downside but, since it's no longer tuned and no longer averaged, the numbers fluctuate every 2.3s

... For example, as soon as I open the window, from 35+ range, the number would shoot up to 95+ range. And when it's closed, the number would gradually decrease until the air is back to the `excellent` levels. It doesn't go down to 10. The lowest I got since the bypass is 16 AQI. Quite an amazing insight! How did you manage to get the sensor values to refresh more frequently and display actual values? I think Xiaomi did it keep the motor/fan from running more aggressively and to extend the life of the filter? Just my guess though.

You are kinda right.... An air purifier is designed to clean the air from particles in the air, not really for smells (the same for ionizers!). So if you want to get rid of odours specifically, you need a different solution. That said, what the system does is clean the air through the filter-system. That means that 'dirty' air comes in, and clean filtered air comes out. The carbon filter will remove odours for sure! If you have a smelly trashcan or pets for example, you will still smell the odours in the house. There is a signifiant difference when the system is on: The air feels clean and cooking odours for example are really reduced or gone very quickly!

I agree, while I believe that ionizers work it only mostly applies to large particles like dust to keep them from floating. Odours can only be rid off using actual ozone (I think he should be referring to OZONIZERS) but given that our house is sealed and ozone is toxic, that’s simply out of the question lol.

The noise level depends on the 1-3 settings with how hard you want the machine to work. You can also upgrade the filters and get one better for pet hair and smells which is a must have in my home. I noticed the air seemed lighter and easier to breathe when running the machine for the first time. Works great every time. Highly recommended!
