I love his tongue-in cheek and very British, smooth charm. He'll always be my sentimental favourite, who always comes to mind when I think of James Bond. I think he really put his own memorable stamp on the role and character; polished, suave, classy yet masculine, and brought a lot of playful levity, humour and presence to it.

@@markharrison2544 Blimey, ol' chap, don't beat around the bush. I don't know if he actively endorsed the Tories , like Connery has done with the SNP, or just answered a journalist's question. Both tax exiles funnily enough... If you're going to say someone's a racist ( I can't remember him saying anything racist like Rod Stewart, or Eric Clapton alledgely) please can you give examples? Cheers.

I remember that interview. Was 12 at the time. What a contrast he is to Daniel Craig. He actually enjoyed playing Bond whereas Craig looks as if he hated every minute of it e.g. ”I'd rather slit my wrists than make another one!". This is why as co-producer of No Time To Die he actually vouched for doing the opposite of the title of the film and make Bond die! He has no star quality whereas Roger Moore has. It's his last Bond film and he's still showing that he enjoyed it. Wish we had real stars like him back again.

I hear this often but he DID play it with an edge. Kicking car off cliff in eyes only..avenging 009 death in octopussy..killing bald dude in spy who loved me..and killing big bad at end. He also had dark edge in live and let die when questioning rosie...threatening Chris lee in man with golden gun the list is endless. Yes he also brought humour to role but so did sean and Pierce. Also he was quite jokey in the film you mention.

James Henderson if we’re talking about 1960s, he wasn’t too old for it. He did get too old for the James Bond role midway through the 1980s when he was still doing it. Technically he did get a bit too old for it when The Spy Who Loved was released in 1977, which at that stage he had hit 50. As much as liked Moore as 007 and he continued on after The Spy Who Loved Me all the way to A View to a Kill, a part of me thinks he probably should have stopped after his third film or at least after For Your Eyes Only, in which he originally wanted to stop playing the part after that film.
@realstevewilson
@realstevewilson 4 жыл бұрын
James Henderson you’re right. George Lazenby did play Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service but he chose only to do that film and not any other. So when Sean Connery left the series again, they could have turned to another actor but Moore. But they considered Moore not thinking about his 45 years of age but I guess at the time the age thing didn’t matter to them until critics became aware of Moore’s in later films, particularly A View to a Kill. Pierce Brosnan was in his late forties when he played James Bond in Die Another Day. It’s said that he kept in mind that fans and critics were unhappy with Moore playing Bond until he was 58.

I guess Moore relied on stunt men more but it wasn't down to his age because many actors do their own stunts way past their 50's like Tom Cruise. I liked him as Bond but it is true that physically he wasn't as believable as some of the other actors who played the character.
