Mia's First Swim Meet at an Olympic-size Swimming Pool

Just almost 3 months after her very first competitive swim meet, Mia went on another “first” - swim meet on an Olympic-size swimming pool! She still hasn’t gotten over the swim-meet-nerves (though it’s been better compared to her first swim meet), so this meet on a 50-meter pool definitely made her more anxious. Few weeks before the meet, she kept telling me how one lap on a 50m pool vs two laps in a 25m pool are very different. At first, I was like “It’s just the same distance. If you can do 2 laps in a 25m, then you can do 1 lap in a 50m” until I realized “Oh damn she’s right, it is different”. She had 6 events but her main concern was she would run out of breath especially on her 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly events. But in the end, she finished them all without any disqualification 🥹
So proud of my baby girl! Even though she cried right before her 50m butterfly event 😅 It was the event she was most anxious about. While her butterfly technique has become so much better compared to 3 months ago when she first competed, she said it’s the hardest stroke for her and she runs out of breath with fly faster than the other strokes. Despite her worries, her coach complimented her butterfly arms and kicks after her swim! 🥳
Fun fact: Mia swims faster during swim practices than during meets 😆 I think it has a lot to do with pressure and her competitiveness. So for the next swim meets, our hope is she’ll believe more on herself, be more confident, not worry too much, have fun and enjoy the process instead of thinking about whatifs (“what if I get disqualified”, “what if I run out of breath”, etc.) ☺️
