What criteria do you have that determine if you can enter a convective cloud like Cb, TCU, do you check the level of moisture content with your weather radar before, do you have anti ice on before entering?

It really depends on a couple of factor: 1. What your eyes see 2. What your radar sees 3. What the ATC weather radar sees 4. Were there any planes ahead of you that flew through that cell? 5. Experience Once you have the answers to all of these you usually know what decision to make. Regarding anti ice, you need to turn on the engine ones when you are below 10C or above -40C, and in visible moisture. You turn on the wing anti ice when you get the Ice Detected message on you EICAS.

@@juhakernel8099 We could have definitely turned the FD off, I didnt look at it during final anyways, and both of us knew that it was irrelevant at that point. Even if we would have gone around we just would have joined the pattern most likely, hand flying, and landed.

We always try to cut the corner into the visual, they would take you so far out for the RNAV/ILS if you don't take care of yourself
