You also have to keep in mind that many Christians believe the gospel of the New Testament. Which basically says that all you need to get into heaven is to believe that Jesus died for your sins. They don't typically believe the old testament applies since the crucifixion of Jesus wrote a new covenant in the blood of god.

In the ancient world Egypt was thought to be in Asia, they didn't know what was beneath Sahara (it was and still is one of the most intense natural borders). Also when you say African it might imply "black african" when Egypt was always Mediterranean with influences from middle east and mostly Greece. Later on they found out that there is a whole continent and that the sea was separating Egypt on the side of Africa. Also if someone asks you about a meander "is this European" and you reply "it is Greek" that means Europe is not one country that has this specific symbol, but rather one country. Like Sweden is different to Spain, England is different to Russia etc.

Technically Kat is right and he is wrong, the symbol is Kushite not Egyptian. However the Kushites later ruled Egypt. They are also known as the Nubian Dynasty. The later Ptolemaic Dynasty also used the symbol, although they were technically Greek in origin.
