Megan foxes gilded butterflies tattoo is an adaptation of a Shakespeare quote from King Lear. To gild something means to cover it in a layer of gold basically and so while this would make the butterfly beautiful it would ruin it as gold is too heavy for the light butterfly. It basically means to laugh at those who think putting on a beautiful exterior will give them value when in reality it's ruining the beauty that is really inside and was always there.

What I love most about this video, are the comments. You guys with all the background info and support.. that's where it's at. I'm honestly kinda blown away by how unnecessarily judgmental the artists were in this video.. I get that some of the artwork wasn't the BEST, I mean it's obvious. IDK I guess I just feel like they (of all people) should know that the meaning behind your ink, is what makes it so special to you (the client), not JUST technical precision/perfection. I get the feeling not all of my tatts would pass muster or be up to snuff for these guys, but I love them. They hold meaning for me, and getting them done was so impactful and cathartic. It's something you and your artist journey through together. Hahaha... There's no definitive "right" or "wrong" when it comes to body art. The tiger tattoo you had a few people saying it had horrible placement while others said the placement was great. It's all subjective

Every tattoo artist thats heavily tattooed themselves is gonna tell you they have ink they wish they never got. Stuff they probably got straight out of highschool thinking "yeah I am badass lets get covered. throw the whole flash sheet right on me fuckkkkk it". They know what bad ink looks like because they probably gotten it themselves. So its on them to take their personal experience and make sure you don't get that same thing.

ThatAussieGirl, that’s why most people don’t have tattoos, its not something to be made lightly. So you can question their judgement expecially when they are on this video. It doesn’t mean they can’t do nice tattoos themselves, it’s not like these tattoos are their own (well maybe they did the art on some of them but the assumption isn’t that the ink work is theirs). And they could cover or remove them. And the way the other tattoos we placed is questionable too with some of them.
