If you guys are coming back to Miami and if you drop anchor off Virginia Key. If you're looking for a low key bar on the water, then take a walk down past the Miami Seaquarium to the University of Miami Marine Science Grad school. There's a bar on the water near the cafeteria that's usually open Thrs, Fri and Sat. It's run by the Grad students and it's very relaxed. You can stumble back to your boat from there if you need to, or one of the students will drop you. The bar is open to all.

Thanks for the wicked salty fix, we've missed you guys. Instagram just isn't the same your videos. And thanks for all the tips, like how to wash your hair, make sure we have a boatswain chair. And know what light is needed so you only have to make one trip up the mast! Keep the posts and videos coming, hope to run into you sometime soon. Moving to st. Augustine this fall to start sailing on something other than a lake. Maybe catch you on your return trip.

Will this be your first time to the Bahamas? Reason for asking. Been there and done that and wanted to point out that there are some wonderful people there but there are also the undesirables. It is just the two of you and you have your girl aboard to think about. Its helpful to cruise with another couple but fine to do solo. I for one always made sure to have some kind of weapon as back up. No need for anything illegal i.e. hand guns.....a good shotgun always comes in handy. Again you may never need it but I know of more than one situation where just the showing and it prevented any unwanted situations. Just looking out for your safety.......safe travels......

You know, it's getting pretty late in the season to be heading to the Bahamas with hurricane season starting up. You might be happier hanging out in the Keys until November or December and then going over then. That would get your experience level up a little. Just a thought from someone who has been back and forth a few times.

ralph holiman Another suggestion is to buy a copy of the Explorer Charts for the Bahamas. Get the Near Bahamas book and the Exumas. I doubt you need the Far Bahama book. Just reading those charts and taking the advice in them will make your Bahamas trip a hell of a lot more likely to be successful.

You are WISE to be CAUTIOUS of the pending crossing. Rob M (below) posted excellent info; but exercise extreme caution at all times.

Henry Flagler. Started Standard Oil with John D. Rockefeller. Flagler then used his wealth and power to get a railroad built down to the Miami area. He developed property and hotels there. He is known as the father of Miami. That's a man made island some guy had made just to put that monument on after Flaglers death.

What is the scariest thing that has happened on your adventure so far? And, what are the "Must visit" places to see in the Caribbean..
@WickedSalty8 жыл бұрын
+Gene Bethune Scariest thing was the "mistakes in open ocean" video or when we were at anchor in the 70 knot blow in Staniel Cay. Must visit place is all of the Exumas.

Per my previous post, I thought you might this information of interest: Bahamas Boating and Sailing Regulations When arriving in port, boaters should observe the following: visiting boaters must clear Customs and Immigration at the nearest designated Port of Entry. All visitors must meet The Bahamas entry requirements. As you enter port, fly the yellow quarantine flag and notify Customs of your arrival. Customs and Immigration will come to your vessel. No one other than the captain is permitted to leave the boat until your vessel has been cleared. Everyone on board must have proof of citizenship and fill out an Immigration Card. US citizens can present a passport or birth certificate (original or certified copy) and an official photo ID, such as a driving license or voter registration card. You must declare all onboard firearms with Customs. You must provide the firearm serial number and manufacturer, plus an exact count of ammunition. Though you are allowed to have a firearm on your vessel, you cannot take it off the vessel unless you obtain a permit from the Bahamian police ahead of time. Weapons must be under lock and key at all times. Any infraction of this law is dealt with severely.
