Pretty interesting, never realized the CSI techs would be civilians like that. Always thought they were full-fleged LEOs who carry and everything. Regardless, another one of the important civilians roles that make law enforcement go 'round.

Justin My city's department has a mix of sworn officers and civilians that are crime scene analysts

Colin Leavitt Yeah. I work as a dispatcher in my town, which is pretty small, so there's now specialized crime scene unit. Instead crime scene processing goes to the county's Bureau of Criminal Investigation, which I'm pretty sure is all sworn officers. Nonetheless, it's interesting to see how it varies based on locale/funding/demographics or whatever else influences it across the country.

After today's episode I have to say I feel an increase in confidence in your department. Not to undermine my local police force (which I'm sure they are great) but knowing what you guys do is great for the community. I feel all police departments should have 1 department in charge of blogs to help the community know the effort that you all put on your jobs and to help us understand you all better. I have much respect for what you do Nick as it takes talent to be as excited and charismatic as you are and I thank you for showing me what I can do with my local police. If you do read this (and I hope you do) please do let us know of what else can we do to volunteer or how to help and further support our local police departments to do any sort of help or support or charity for them to show we appreciate what they do for us.

Fair play, from all these videos I see the Miami Police Department and their various other departments are just so chilled, down to earth and friendly, it's refreshing to see the Police in a positive outlook, especially with the bad press that Police get for being aggressive or grumpy, but here y'all are being awesome! This here is the biggest motivator for me to join the Police (currently live in the UK but do eventually want to move to the States and Police over there) to make a difference and just be as chilled as you guys! Keep up the good work!

Depends, if its an active scene then officers will do investigating, in some cases a detective will later be contacted. In some cases the Officer can complete the entire investigation on the scene, others might require a more intricate investigation.
